DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANT THE MOST MISERABLE EXPERIENCE EVER. Heed my words. We recently had a transmission go out on a camper van and rather than rebuilding ourselves again, decided to pay a professional to ease the amount of stress that doing it alone causes. We were going to order a rebuilt transmission online, and absolutely should have. Instead, we went to Rob at Central Transmission. He talked a good talk and pricing was on par, so even though Kent is an hour drive each way, we decided to go with him. This was a HUGE, HUGE, HUGE mistake. After driving the transmission down and back (2 hours of time), it took longer than expected to get it back. He upsold us on a "better" torque converter. We had to send my elderly dad to pick up the transmission due to scheduling. My dad went to pick it up (another 2 hours), and bring it home. While not ideal, we are experts on installing transmissions on this van. The entire van has been rebuilt and remodeled by us. This transmission does not work. The Torque converter did not fit right and had incorrect splines that don't match the input shafts for the transmission. At the point we knew this wasn't going to work out. Rob started being non-responsive at this time, but after threatening legal action, he told us we could pay to have the van towed to him so he could look at it. We offered to do that the next day and he informed us we would need to wait at least a week to do it, so here we sat, wasting another week. At that point, Rob (appropriately named) went dark. Totally ghosted. Completely MIA. We ended up having to buy another torque converter out of pocket. That one fit fine, however, the transmission does not shift properly. The van is completely undrivable, the transmission does not shift, Rob will not respond and we are left out TWENTY FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS. $2,500!!!!! I cannot even believe it. Messing with trying to get this transmission to work, getting the bad torque converter off (this took hours due to the bad fit), getting it to fit for installation, removing, replacing with another torque converter (out several hundred dollars more here), getting it reinstalled and then finding out the transmission itself won't shift, has cost us SOMEWHERE AROUND 35 HOURS, resulted in physical body wear and pain, and so much heartache, frustration and ultimately rage. So, here we sit, without a van. Without nearly $3,000. Rob (again, appropriately named), only takes payment in cash, likely because he knows he's robbing his customers, and then they can't dispute it with their bank or credit card company. And we still have to get another or rebuild this transmission ourselves. Meanwhile, not a peep from Rob, despite continued outreach. Ultimately, we will be out nearly $6,000. That doesn't include time and labor. We will be filing in small claims court. There are so many other reviews on various platforms, sharing similar experiences, and I wish we would have listened to them. Please hear me when I say - take your business elsewhere, please. We don't wish this experience on anyone at all. read more

Rob had my truck for 4 months with with so many excuses, they started to contradict each other. blocked my phone number, then my gf number. After the 3rd time I went down there, he offers to pay for a rental, since it's a work truck, anything to get me out of the office. Had to call a neighboring transmission shop to go tow it out of there. They said this isn't the first time we've been asked to do this.Turns out my truck was broken into, Stereo system, catalytic converters, hole drilled in gas tank, This cost me $20k to rectify this mess with the rental he offered but didn't pay for. Do a background check on this guy, you'll be in for a wild ride. We currently have a lawsuit pending, your affidavit could help us shut this place down. read more

Tool my 2003 Trailblazer to have a new transmission put in back in 2021. With this service I also received a 3 year warranty. For the last few months I have been having issues with my transmission so of course I need to use the warranty and have them diagnose the problem. I have been trying to contact the buisness steadily for the last few months to make an appointment, but everytime I call there is no answer. Forget leaving a voice-mail because the mailbox has been full everytime I call, as well. I'm nearing the end of my 3 years and am so frustrated no being able to make contact to have the issue fixed. Don't take your vehicle here!! NO communication, lies, run around, no idea to repair anything in a timely manner. Took my truck here for possible transmission issue. Found out it was only a faulty hose. Waited 3 WEEKS for a clamp/connector and hose repair. NEVER got a call updating me on the status. I had to repeatedly call to see why my truck was not ready when promised. Had a firm date of needing it back on a Friday and went there to pick up. Was told by Rob "the guys are working on it now". I was furious - needed my truck that day!!!! Was told repeatedly no problem. Left to figure out a different solution as I didn't have my truck for job needed. Weekend passes, I wait to hear from Rob. Nothing Monday, nothing Tuesday, Nothing Wednesday - I call Thursday and no answer ( call repeatedly, no answer). My wife calls on her phone and Rob answers right away!!! I ask about my truck and he has the nerve to say "oh it was ready Friday afternoon"!!!!!!! I asked him if he was ever going to call me and tell me it was ready? He says " Oh I'd thought you'd call if you needed it!" WHAT???????? DO NOT USE THIS PLACE!! Absolutely no idea how to run a business or treat customers or repair anything. I'll be pulling the transmission out of my stranded motorhome for the third time. They can't seem to get it done correctly. When they don't get it rite. You'll pretty much get ghosted with really lame excuses and told to read your warranty carefully. Let me save you all the trouble. WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER INSTALLATION, TOWING OR SHIPPING. That means it's totally worthless. If you are able to get your equipment back to Kent for the who knows how many manyith time. They'll take another shot at it. I used this shop for the convenience since it is just around the corner from my apartment but that was a mistake. When I first took my truck in, it was because of a noise from the transfer case and the 4 wheel drive wouldn't work. I informed the owner Rob that these repairs would be covered under a warranty since I has recently purchased the truck and he said that they had done this kind of warranty work previously and I felt comfortable with this shop doing the work. Initially there were some scheduling issues on my side getting the truck to his shop but once there I was told it would only take 2 or 3 days. One trip to the shop I noticed that one of the rear shocks was broken. Rob said that is just "happened" and that he would get a replacement. Several days later my truck was sitting outside so I stopped in to see if it was finished. Rob told me that he was having problems contacting the warranty company and that he kept getting put on hold for long periods (funny, I have never been on hold with them). Several days later I stopped by again and was told there was "one more test" they needed to do. I was told it would be ready "Tuesday" and than it was "Friday". Then on Friday I was told "Monday" and Monday I was promised by close of business Wednesday. On Wednesday my call went unanswered and that Thursday I was told by Rob that it would be ready by Close of Business Friday. Initially having my truck in the shop was a minor inconvenience since I had another car to drive, but that car started having some major problems and I needed my truck back. Over 5 weeks had gone by at this time and my patience had been used up. I took the afternoon off to make sure my truck was finished or I was prepared to have it towed to another shop. When I entered the shop I was beyond furious! my truck was up on a lift and the transfer case had been reinstalled, but the front tire, hub assembly and suspension was off and Rob was nowhere to be found. I unloaded on one of the employees that was there and was told that Rob was at the junkyard getting a piece for my truck. WHAT? Firstly, I had no knowledge of any issue with the front end and had not had not had any discussions about it nor did I give any authorization to do any work on it, Secondly, USED PARTS? No F**king way! I found that this was just something that I was told to explain Robs absence. Next, with no front suspension, I couldn't get it towed if I wanted to. And lastly, there was no way my truck would be done by close of business if no one was even working on it. I told the employee that I was not leaving until my truck was ready to drive out of there or Rob showed up to explain what in the hell he thought he was doing. 3 hours later, and over an hour past their closing time, Rob finally shows up and starts to give me the run around again. After 3 hours of waiting with no phone call from him (but he was calling his employee regularly) I blew up. Rob promised me that it would be done on Monday and if that couldn't happen, he would take it across the street to the Ford dealership. Due to the issues I was having with my car, I still needed something to drive to work on Monday. I suggested that Rob rent me a car, and to my surprise he agreed requesting that I get it through Enterprise (not an issue). Monday morning I had to call in late to work since both the rental company and Robs shop don't open until 8:30 (in retrospect, I probably should have arranged this on Friday). Rob refused to put it on his card saying that I would have to put it on my card, but no charges would show up??????? Eventually Rob and Enterprise had worked something out and I got the rental. Low and behold, by 1:30 that afternoon, I got a call from Rob stating that my truck was finished. YEAH !!! My warranty has a $100 deductible but I was told that the cost of repair would exceed what the warranty company was willing to pay and that I would have to make up the difference. Rob and I disagree on what the initial amount was that we agreed on, but I ended up paying $150 more than my deductible. There is still a noise from under my truck and Rob reneged on his promise to replace my shock but did offer to install it if I purchased one myself. Yeah, like I would trust him to ever work on my truck again? This is my personal experience with Central Transmission and yours may be different. But after looking at similar reviews, I would not have taken my truck here in the first place. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE!!! I took my buddy's Porsche with a transmission problem. It's been over 1 year and I have not heard back from anyone. I keep contacting them and the so called owner "Rob" kept saying he doesn't have an update and that he will go to the shop and check on the car and give me an update the next day. Months later nothing.. this is not a place to take any car and they should be shut down. No customer service what so ever. They don't care about your cars. They had my friend pay up front and have him sitting with no car. Central transmission is a joke. I called so often that once rob answered and I asked what's up with the car he just says " he'll call me back" and I said "will you tho?" And he hangs up. Had a great experience with Central Transmission after a not great experience with another transmission shop (misdiagnosed and repaired something that wasn't in need of repair). My transmission went out nearby and I chose King's due to being close for AAA to tow my car in. I called ahead of time and got great customer service. They waited late for my truck to be dropped off by the tow truck and they stayed in contact. Received a call the following day that it was indeed my transmission and they happened to have a good replacement in stock. The price was good and I had asked about the cash only comment from the other reviews, which was not the case, paid with credit card. I brought in a transmission issue related to a seal leak got up sold to a complete rebuild. After I picked the vehicle up the transmission started throwing speed sensor faults. Three return visits ( I don't believe they addressed the issue because it requires a pan drop AND there are warnings on the help sites of sensor damage if not carefully done) I suspect my vehicle just sat in their lot untouched on the return visits. Rob and his team had a tough time diagnosing the problem with my all wheel drive van but they kept searching until the problem was revealed. It was a small onboard computer which had been sending the wrong signals to the transmission box between the two front wheels. Once installed, it worked out the problem of shimmying every time I'd turn the wheels. It's now smooth and responsive. It took a long time but they finally nailed it. read more

I stopped in and talked with Rob, I told him I have a diesel with a mild modified engine I was planning on running 700 wrhp he said no problem I can build you a trans to hold that kind of power, so after my motor was built I had Rob build me a transmission. after 3-4 weeks of my vehicle being at this shop I received my vehicle. 783 mile later the trans failed and I had to have it towed back to the shop. I had to wait again 3-4 wks, after 1,850 miles it failed again. I called and talked with Rob, I was told to wait 2 weeks to have it towed back. I called a number of times and he did not answer my phone calls. I had to leave work early to catch him at the shop after he had it for over 4wks, he rebuilt the transmission and drove it around then decided to replace the transmission with a different rebuilt transmission, 129 mile later I received my vehicle, 6306 miles the trans went out again called Rob once he answered I told him I want my money back he talked is way out of it and promised he never had one do this. I was told to wait a couple weeks before he had time to work on it. had it towed back to his shop. 3-4 wks later I pick it up. 27,540 miles later the trans is slipping! and i had and injector fail and blow the engine up, this time I pull the trans my self and drop it off its rebuilt after 2wks. 3,254 mile later the trans is broken again. In 3 years and 2 months that's 6 transmissions that was replaced and approximately 12-16 weeks of down time with out my vehicle and 4 tow truck bills. Also I Had a new engine with all new accessories down to the wiring harness, in the mist of my truck being in and out of the shop I had 2 new battery's that were destroyed from starting the truck up and pulling it in/out of the shop and turning it off. I told Rob that this would happen and that I installed a on board battery charger with a desulfator and to plug it in. He did not. I showed up to check on my truck to see if it was finished since he would not answer my phone calls and found it out in the parking lot with no charger on it. With my spare set of keys I open it up and check the after market computer in it and it showed just over 9v of battery. It needed a minimum of 12v to not fry the fuel controller or the injectors. well I had a fuel controller FICM go out and it was a new FICM. After that I had multiple injector fail that cost me a motor. $25k later for the new engine that I built myself. With the transmission he built and that I installed lasted 3,254 mile and left me stranded in California and had to have it towed back to WA. I can not prove that the engine failed do to the chain affect of not keeping the battery's charged but all arrows point that way. I almost forgot I had to argue with him about adding billet parts to the trans. I was on the freeway on cruise control @ 70mph bumped it up to 75mph and snapped the flex plate off the crank and over revved the engine. Keep in mind the engine was brand new and every time the trans went out it over revved. That's no good on a brand new motor and I purchased a larger aftermarket oil pan that cost around $450 when they installed it they over tightened the drain plug and ruined it. WTF!! IS ALL I CAN SAY. ALL I CAN SAY IS STAY FAR FAR AWAY FROM THIS SHOP!!!! ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE A PREFORMANCE SETUP!!!! read more

Be very careful with this place. DO NOT LOSE YOUR RECEIPT. Had my transmission fixed by these people. They did a great job. 2 years and 20,000 miles later I had a problem. The car would not go into reverse. I lost my receipt. They also lost their copy of the work order. As a result my car would not be fixed under warranty. I'm left wondering whether it's poor record keeping or he just didn't want to fix my car for nothing. Be prepared to be without your vehicle for a long time, they are not fast. read more

Went with my transmission throwing those lovely 'check engine lights'. Rob took it in and had his guys quickly troubleshoot the issue. I like that he is super cautious and pays attention to every detail to make sure he doesn't mis-diagnose and get it right the first time. A couple days later, the car was back in tip top shape and the wallet wasn't suffering as his rate was very good! I previously went to AAMCO in Renton and the same fix there would have cost at least twice! Will take my cars in for work at Central Transmission again! read more

I don't really write reviews. I don't think a company should get praise for doing what they are expected to do. I do like to point out when a company goes above and beyond without being asked or expected to. Back in 09 Central transmission rebuilt the transmission in my truck and it's still working fine to this day. Last week my moms Toyota needed a transmission and when I dropped the car off for her I mentioned the heater wasn't working. When I picked the car up not only was the transmission working again, they had fixed the heater at no extra charge without being asked. Thanks read more

WOW! If I could rate this shop negative 10 stars I would. At least from the other bad reviews it looks like Rob treats all his customers the same, with his deer in the headlights, Huh? Wha...? I dunno act. He had my work truck for over a year fixing a simple drip (under warranty) on a new transmission he had just installed that we paid in full months prior. After months of hardly any communication, it was always "We'll have it wrapped up by tomorrow and I will give you a call". He never called. I would physically have to drive down there to talk to him or send my son to get an update. Even then, I was very understanding that some things take a while and cut him some slack. It was not until the police showed up at my house around midnight one night saying they found our truck plates on a stolen vehicle. They were stolen off my truck while sitting at his shop because a lot of the vehicles sit out in the open, and it had been sitting there for MONTHS. When I called Rob the next morning to let him know the truck plates were stolen, Rob had no idea what I was talking about. What? I asked him to please do whatever you can to fix the issue and I would like to pick it up within the next couple of days and he promised he would move it to the locked portion of the lot. After more months of no communication (I also run a business and don't have time to call Rob every day and hound him unfortunately) we tried to pick it up again. My son drove by the yard, and this time there was a broken window, and the brand-new stereo was stolen out of it. Again, Rob had no idea this happened and said," well...we are in a kind of a bad neighborhood." He assured me this was now a priority, and he would now replace the window and stereo and call us ASAP. Again, a couple months pass with ZERO communication. Finally, I decided to send my son down there to go pick up the truck (repairs complete or not) to get it out of the twilight zone and Rob told him he had returned it to the owner already. WHAT?! After thinking it had been stolen, I go back to see Rob in person with my wife and kids to see what the deal was and potentially file a police report. We showed up in my wife's car, so he didn't run and hide like he had done multiple times when he saw my truck or my son's truck. When we confronted Rob he said, oh it is not stolen, it has just been at Car Toys (for two months, according to Car Toys!) getting the stereo replaced. He made a call to Car Toys to "pay" for the stereo while my wife also called Car Toys to make sure our truck was really there. Car Toys told my wife that the truck is there, and they did install a stereo. However, they had to remove it due to lack of payment and communication with Rob. Car Toys was nice enough to store our truck inside their shop for the first two weeks as they called Rob multiple times telling him the truck had to picked up and to please pay the bill. He always told them he would be right there to pick it up. Finally, the manager threatened to charge him storage fees. After Rob did not come by or pay the bill, Car Toys was forced to remove the stereo and park the truck outside. They had tried to reach him several times but again, he is terrible at communicating and can never be reached or will "call you tomorrow". Now I just wanted to pick up my truck and never see this guy again. I asked Rob if he would write me a check for the stereo and work Car Toys was doing (he was trying to pay over the phone, and they would not accept his credit card) and he said no. What a piece. We have spent a lot of time and money there, because you physically need to go there to get any type of information. The whole time we were thinking this cannot be real. No one could avoid phone call and emails and continually make excuses like this guy! He does not take accountability for his actions and has never even apologized for taking so long, having the plates stolen, the window bashed in, or the stereo stolen and never replaced. I have wanted to write a Yelp review after basically every phone call with Rob, however, I know it can harm a business and I am a VERY understanding person when it comes to delays and poor communication. After meeting with him today, I cannot let anyone else get ripped off by this guy. NEVER ever take your vehicle there. read more

Paid for a new transmission 3 months ago and went through same stuff then, said he'd have truck 3 days, ended up being 5!!! After I got truck back, asked him for all my old parts he said he would save for me and "he couldn't find them"...what he meant was he didn't replace them. Now he has my truck again, saying he found the problem and I owe him more money now....i paid $2700.00 for transmission....supposedly new parts, why do I have to pay more...isnt that purpose of warranty?? I went here a year ago for just a routine transmission flush on a 2004 Impala. I received a call from them saying my transmission needed to be replaced or rebuilt immediately. That I shouldn't even be driving it. Alot of metal in the pan etc... I had them do the flush, but couldn't really afford a transmission rebuild at the time. Now a year later, I am still driving my car just the way it is. It started slightly slipping on me at stop signs and I took a look at the fluid. Well they had overfilled it by quarts!! I know your not supposed to do this. It even says it on the dipstick with a ! I DO NOT recommend this place. I will tell anybody not to go here. read more

Central Transmission is the worst business I have ever dealt with in 35 years of owning automobiles. I purchased a 1999 VW Eurovan Camper from a Lynnwood carlot Oct. 31 2010. The transmission was not shifting correctly so an agreement was made by the carlot to repair the problem. They chose Central Transmission because they advertised themselves as "Eurovan Transmission Specialists" to do the repair. For 5 months I got excuses, broken promises and lies from Central Transmission owner Rob. He would not return my calls and most time I phoned I only got his voice messaging. After 5 months the carlot finally towed the van out of Central Transmission in exactly the same condition as it went in. Run away and find a reputable transmission repair shop. Do not deal with this company. read more

They continually provided poorly operating or completely failed transmissions. My vehicle was always promised back in "about 3 days" or "by the end of the week" but almost always took 2-3 weeks to actually get back. Rob (the owner) plays dumb when obvious issues are brought up, and tries to blame those obvious issues on something completely unrelated just so they don't have to look into the actual issue. Calls are generally not answered and voicemails are never returned, making getting your vehicle back even harder once it is actually done. I've given up on getting my vehicle to drive right or get the mileage it did before the transmission replacement, and just deal with something that shifts terribly and gets worse mileage than when I brought it in. I'm so tired of dealing with them I'm not even going to go back if something major happens to the transmission and it needs repair under warranty, I'd rather pay out of pocket at a different shop than go back here for free. Finally... The first trans they installed failed after 9k miles, the second one just blew up after 35k miles. I'm not even going to attempt warranty service, I'm paying out of pocket to have a different shop get my rig running again. read more

Work wise they did a good job but customer service and timeliness of the repair was terrible. I had to call several times and after promises of it being done it wasn't. It took them over three weeks to get the vehicle back to us. In addition the two times we went down to pick up on days we were advised it was done the shop wasn't open during business hours. Anywhere but here would be a better choice! My husband bought a transmission from them for his truck about 3 and a half weeks ago...didn't work so he took it back. They gave him a new one and my husband installed it and it still didn't work properly. My husband decided to take his truck in and have them fix it since they seemed incapable of selling him a working transmission. They told him it would take a couple days! After two days they told him "Tomorrow!" He's been calling them everyday now for the past two and a half weeks and they've told him "Tomorrow!" or "It'll be done in 2 hours." Two and a half weeks of it sitting on their lot and no truck! At least be honest and tell us when it's REALLY gonna be done! Don't waste your time or your money on this place! read more

We chose this shop after reading reviews even though there were a couple questionable ones. We took our car to get diagnosed on Monday morning and Rob was very friendly and told us they would call us early afternoon and let us know what they found. They never called and in fact we called and left a message and tried a couple other times and finally got a call back right before they closed at 5:45 saying they needed to keep it and do some more tests and would call us by 10am. Finally after two voice mails and several calls at 2:30p I was able to get a hold of someone. Rob said they were going to do one more test and call in an hour. I expressed my frustration with the lack of communication and he promised he would call. He did call and told us they couldn't figure out what was wrong and we should take it to the dealer to get diagnosed. We did so and found out what was wrong so called them to ask if they could do the work and how much and never heard back. So this review isn't based on their work because we never got that far. Not a good first impression or a good way to gain new customers. Highly doubt we will ever go back to this shop if the need ever came up. read more

took my car there less then 2 years ago, dont lose your reciept, they will f you right in the bumb and leave you stranded, sure oil changes and what not maybe, not me though, 2 months and rob keeps scratching his head saying he cant find his hard copy cause his hard drive crashed and ROB dont give me BS about its not intentional, if the irs did an audit, you would be in deep s#!&, you cant provide documentation for all work done, does it take a court order for you to find the paper work, how many people have you screwed over and got away with it, im persoanlly not one to screw over, thanks to this shop. there is no warranty on my TL, ill know soon enougb if the transmission was rebuilt or not less then 2 years ago. I would never reccomend any one to this shop, lousy service, i have bank statements showing payment date and rob still cant find his copy of the paper work, that tells me they dont file anything correctly, if you have work done there make sure you have a lawyer present to get the right documentation, that way ur lawyer can sure his shop later. the state should take his bond and trash it. read more
