I normally don't give out 1-star reviews unless it's warranted, and in this case, it is. If giving ZERO stars was an option, this place would qualify. The following is the series of events that earned this business my 1-star review: 7/31/2023, contacted them by phone and asked if they can replace my torque converter and if they'll install customer-provided parts. Don, the owner I'm assuming, said yes to both. He gave me his cost for the work and after playing phone tag a few times that day, I reached Donald (not Don) and had him put me down for 7 a.m. on 8/14. Arrived at their shop promptly at 7 a.m. on 8/14. I walked in and told Donna that I have an appt. at 7 a.m. to replace my torque converter. The way she looked at me was almost like she wasn't aware of my appt. She asked me to fill out the form and bring it to the front desk. I did, and that's where I spoke to Don. He read my notes and said something about test driving the car to diagnose the issue. I already told him what the issue was over the phone but he seemed like I was a customer that just dropped in to get my car fixed. He says he can have it done by Wed., 8/16 end of day. After leaving the car I had a strange feeling that they didn't write my appt. down. Even if they did write it down, it seemed like they don't review who is coming in that day. 8/16 comes and I haven't heard anything from the shop, so it's either going very well, or they haven't touched the car yet. I decided to call them to check the status. Donna tells me they haven't started on it yet! OMG, I was shocked! She put me on hold. Don got on the phone and explained that his "specialist mechanic" was sick or couldn't come to work so they haven't started on my car yet. I asked him why he didn't bother to call me to let me know because I had to rent a car and now this delay will cost more money and inconvenience. He says 'my bad for not calling you and I apologize'. Ok, but the way he said it was NOT a sincere apology. I was already angry at that point that he didn't communicate and he could care less about any inconveniences it causes. After mentioning the cost of renting a car for the extra time he needs to work on my car, he says 'well, there's one way you don't have to spend money on a rental car...just come pick up your car'. Wow!! Really? That's your resolve to this situation? If he would have offered a discount on the labor I would have gladly agreed to that. Nope. He could care less. His take on the whole situation is 'well, that's life and that's too bad for you' kind of attitude. 8/17, picked up the car. Checked to make sure my parts were still there. Can't trust this shop and will never be back. I then reviewed my dash cam videos. They used my car to make a coffee run down the road. Use your own cars for personal errands!! You didn't need to test drive it because I told you the problem and I just asked you to replace the parts that I provided. Sounds like a simple request!! I'd like to see any rebuttal statement that Don has to say. In my opinion, he shouldn't have one and simply should just have taken responsibility for lack of communication and causing inconvenience and not keeping a promise to have the work done as agreed. Even offering a discount of some sort would have been acceptable and I would have waited the few extra days. But no, he decided to be a jerk instead. read more

I brought my old truck into them last August because it was shifting hard/slipping. Transmission Specialists charged me $3000 to "fix" the problem and the truck still had issues when it was picked up and after the 2 more times of trying to fix it. The truck continued to have issues for several months until diagnosed properly by another shop. When asked to refund the amount paid to them, the company refused. I decided to pursue this further. Throughout this, Don, the general manager repeatedly referred to me as "ridiculous" and used words such as "you are so stupid as to.."and other derogatory comments. Transmission Specialists' attempted to make an offer for a minimal amount of the repair cost which he justified by saying that was the amount they could return to me to merely break even. This was completely self-focused and they were obviously not thinking of client. Don attempted to bully me into accepting his offer and attempted to make me feel unworthy and idiotic. Don lied about other issues with the truck causing the same issues after they worked on it that I brought the truck in for. They failed to diagnose my truck properly and did not honor they work. They took advantage of me were completely dishonest. Please, if any of you need transmission work, do not go to this shop. read more

Speaking with Don instilled in me an air of confidence, knowing that I had come to the right place. I was already worried about my towing capacity and even, whether or not, I should service/replace my existing transmission (200k miles), even though I had no problems before I bought my 6500lb Travel Trailer. Don put me at ease, running numbers, tow capacity, asking about my tow vehicle, service history, trailer specs, and finally came up with his recommendation. I did not feel oversold, pressured, just informed and confident in my decision. I waited a few months before writing this review. Trailer purchased, transmission changed, 3 trips under my belt and the transmission runs 20 degrees cooler than my old one, towing my Grand Design Imagine 2500RL. I drove 2 hours to drop my Suburban off to Don based on extremely high recommendations from Heavy Duty Transmission Shops I have worked with for 15+ years. What it really comes down to when choosing a place to work on your car is trust and confidence. Trust that they will not try and charge you for things you don't need and confidence that they will properly fix the things you do need. Maybe it's just me, but I want a mechanic with experience. I want a mechanic with grease on their clothes. I want a mechanic that doesn't have to solely rely on a computer to diagnose a problem. After taking my beloved Dodge Dart in for a simple transmission fluid change and listening and watching for an hour and a half as they completed the job, I have the utmost trust and confidence in these mechanics. While i was there, I discovered that not only do they do transmissions, they also do things like brakes and suspension. Their name is Transmission Specialists, but what they really specialize in is automotive knowledge. The mechanics here are the type of guys(and at least one girl) that can fix anything on wheels. They are straight-forward and professional. Fixing things is what they do and they are very good at it. I will actually sleep better at night knowing that I now have a stress-free place to take my car(s). read more

Avoid this place at all costs. Had my transmission replacement here after some time transmission started acting up and lines started leaking trans fluid. Had to drop it back off for them to diagnose and was told that they had nothing to do with the fact that the lines are leaking, however they were the once messing with them when replacing transmission and blamed everything on my engine mounts. Spent close to 500$ again replacing the lines at this location( which they were at fault for) and replaced engine mount, nothing has changed. Brought the car back multiple times after that and each time their technician would blame it on something else other than their transmission. One time they allegedly damaged my vehicle after I had an argument with their technician and then said that they didn't do anything.After weeks of not having my car and countless arguments they agreed to replace the transmission again. Promised me it would take a week and it took over 4 weeks. I came to pick up my vehicle and couldn't even make it home before the transmission broke again. And so I'm close to 3 months without my vehicle and it does not seem to end. If you want an unprofessional, rude, irresponsible group of individuals this is the place to go If not - stay away! read more

These people responded to my 2 star review and now I am gonna make some waves. They misrepresented the facts in several ways. Here is the rebuttal from their response to my initial review, with a recap of what they said in response: MY REVIEW: 1990 Nissan Maxima Sedan / Auto Trans. 6 Cylinder 3.0 Liter I was informed by Meineke Auto, that my Transmission needed to be replaced and my Front wheel drive left boot cover was torn and needed repair as well. I chose "Transmission Specialists company based on location convenience. I chose to purchase a USED transmission for expense and car age issue. B&R Auto. Problems: 1. Estimate was NEVER given (Asked for one 4+ times) and inspection of repairs needed didn't occur until 15 days AFTER the used transmission arrived from B&R Auto. Estimate was FINALLY provided when I went to pick up my vehicle. Money figures were jotted down on intake vehicle form, but firm inspection and repair costs were always ambiguous. 2. Five days after transmission delivery, they didn't even realize it had arrived or call me. I had to track it down and inform them myself it was delivered on the 3rd of Aug. 3. I drove there 3 times on my Harley to check on the progress, estimate, and whether work had begun. FINALLY, 15 days after transmission arrival and my continued efforts, they began repairs. I'm incredibly leery about going into a shop where I had not been recommended by a friend, especially to work on a part where it can add up quick and I don't really know much about. First off the gal Alycia who answered the phone was incredibly warm, friendly and really gave a good first impression when I called. Oscar was the one who looked at my transmission noise - Took the time to explain exactly what was going on, showed me the crack in the transfer case that was leaking - and what was causing the problem. Don (I guess he is the owner) gave me a quote to do the work, including showing me what it would cost if I went a used route. The price was definitely fair for the work involved. I really cannot say enough good things about their friendliness, professionalism, cleanliness of the shop, and overall caring for the customer. Definitely a five-star experience. My 2000 Chevrolet Tracker had repeat clutch problems. My regular auto shop suggested I take the vehicle to a transmission shop. I chose Transmission Specialists because they were the nearest non chain transmission shop. They jacked my vehicle, looked at it and stated nothing was wrong with the transmission. I am basing this review on two separate instances. A couple of years ago, I needed a clutch replacement. Transmission Specialists installed it, and I was happy with the service. More recently, the transmission itself went kaput. I spoke to a few shops about options and pricing. Everyone agreed that for my old car, buying a used tranny was the best option. I went with this company because of my previous experience with them & competitive pricing. When I came in for my appointment, however, the person I was working with was on vacation, and there did not seem to be any record of my appointment or the work to be done. There was wrangling over whether they could do the work. In the end, they had my car for a couple of weeks or so, and they called to say the car was ready. I went in to pay, and they seemed eager to get the transaction over with, which I attributed to their embarrassment over the problems with the job. The had my car parked where I could just drive it out instead of parking it in one of the spaces out front. Well, when I tried to leave home the next day, I discovered the car WOULD NOT REVERSE. I called the shop, and they knew about it and blamed it on the used transmission. I ended up taking it elsewhere. It was just a matter of tightening the shifter cables, an easy fix. What really irks me is that the mechanic *knew* the car wouldn't reverse, didn't know to tighten the cables, and let me leave without telling me about it. read more

The staff is nice and seem to try hard for good customer service. However, work they do is another thing. Prepare to wait 5 weeks or longer for them to finish a job. Though they may say just a week - and say there were problems with the parts they got from supplier. But this is way too long. They also never call back. They say they are too busy. But then why promise a week if you can't handle the jobs - the. Just have them come back for a later date. Pretty disorganized in my opinion. They also forgot to install everything properly back - could risk damage to car if I did not discover it. So buyer beware. Unless you don't have any other choice - then go with them. I'm going to try and keep this professional but I need to get this out first. These guys are a bunch of idiots. I dropped my car off at the end of December to get the transmission replaced. Their distributor of transmissions said they didn't have any here so they ordered it from Germany. Fine, waited two weeks it finally came and then for the 2 and half weeks they kept coming up with excuses as to why my car wasn't ready and blah blah blah. They finally finished and I drove it home. I start driving it around and everything is fine until I get on the highway. My wheel shakes and when I brake, it made this horrible screeching sound. I thought great, my brakes need replacing. Not the case. These morons didn't put my rotor on right and I already went ahead and spent $200 on new rotors and pads. If they can't even put a rotor on right, I wouldn't trust them with your transmission. read more

I was having a heck of a time self diagnosing my F-350 front end noise. I replaced both hub assemblies, 4x4 locks, all suspension, drag link, tie rods etc. The grinding noise was still there. I was 100% convinced it was the ring and pinion. I called up Don and he quoted me approx $1350 for the front differential rebuild which was about $700 cheaper than any other quote. I dropped my truck off and hoped for the best. I was called about 2 hours later. In my past experience when a mechanic calls that soon after dropping it off it usually means they found more issues which equals more $$$. Don advised me that the sound was actually coming from my drive shaft carrier bearing! $415 dollars out the door! I was so pleased with the professionalism and honesty from Transmission Specialists. I was frantic thinking that I had to replace my transmission in my car that I bought new and have taken perfect care of for 10 years. I had two quotes from mechanics at $3,500 or more, and the Dealership telling me to TRASH my car and buy a new one. Then I just happened to find Don Grover of Transmission Specialists. Immediately over the phone he had other ideas of what was wrong with my car, but first of all he said ..... "If you have tons of money and just want to throw your car away and get a new one, go ahead, but if you love you car and have taken good care of it, chances are it can be fixed, and not for $3,500." After talking to him longer and telling him what my car was doing, he came to the conclusion that it was not my transmission, but had to see it. I towed my car to Transmission Specialist at 1pm, and within a few hours it was diagnosed FREE. The problem was not my transmission, just as Don had thought just hearing about it over the phone, but a defective jammed Brake Pad. Transmission Specialist fixed the problem immediately, kept me informed professionally, and acted like I was their most important customer, in a shop that is teaming with other jobs. End product two hundred dollars, and my car runs perfect. If it would have been my transmission, Don's quote was half of all the other mechanics.
