Falafel Salad
Mary R.

My husband is obsessed with this place. He gets a chicken, falafel salad, religiously such as simple menu choice but it's so so good.

I've been a huge fan of East Side Pockets; however, my last two visits have been very disappointing. I always order a chicken kebab wrap and not once but TWICE they forgot to put chicken in it. It's almost five dollars more for chicken in the wrap... that's unacceptable. My suggestion to everyone would be to check your take-out order before you leave. Their wraps have also been lazily prepared lately, leaking all over the place and making a mess. The falafel, hummus, and baklava were all amazing as usual.

It's taken me a shamefully long time to dine here, but so glad I finally did! The food is so so fresh and everything is done so quickly. Don't even bother to order ahead because if you stop in, your food will be made to order and will be ready in about 2-3 minutes. I tried a falafel and chicken combo and it was so good. I ordered a gyro for dinner for later and that was great as well. There are a few booths and tables to dine in as well as a handful on Thayer street outside. It has a very casual vibe with music playing. No frills atmosphere and pretty self-serve. I loved it. I am looking forward to putting East Side Pockets in my regular rotation of food spots.

Good value, good food, and large servings! This is a good healthy alternative if you're on a budget and live in Providence. They also have baklava! There's a long line during peak lunch and dinner hours but it moves fast. Limited seating in the store but the food is packed to go anyway. This is a good go-to place for us since our Son is vegetarian and there's plenty of options at this place. Enjoy!

East Side Pockets is practically a Brown University institution at this point, serving up cheap Middle Eastern Eats on the university-adjacent, ever-popular Thayer Street since 1997! The restaurant exterior is unassuming, with pictures displaying some of their most popular dishes. The interior has a counter where you order, as well as several booth tables (although it seems that most people carry out). Since we were visiting during reunion weekend, the restaurant was packed on a Friday at 2pm, and we ended up waiting in line for our food (although it moved quickly, and they were giving out free samples of their falafel)! The menu is extensive, with options for everyone: from appetizers such as tabouleh, various dips, and kibbeh to pita wraps, salads, platters, and more, you can certainly find something to indulge in! Additionally, every menu category has options with different types of proteins, so if you're vegan, vegetarian, halal, kosher, etc., it's easy to customize your meal to your dietary preferences. There's nothing on the menu that exceeds $15, which is a steal in this day and age. We received our food within 5 minutes of ordering, despite how busy the restaurant was. You can see them prepping and assembling your food on the flat-top grill, showcasing how truly everything is made to order. Two members of our party ordered the Falafel Wrap ($9.03), which comes with "Hot sauce, Hummus, Lettuce, Tomato, Onions, Hot Peppers, Pickles, Tabouleh, Tahini, Tzatziki." It's truly a monster of a wrap, with plenty of flavorful, crispy falafel, fresh vegetables, and a pillowy pita wrap. We also ordered their French Fries ($6.48) to share - it comes with a mountain of crispy fries that are perfect to pair with the plethora of fresh dips that they offer. I ordered their From the Grill Salad ($12.04), which is Greek salad with your choice of chicken kabob, gyro, kafta, or beef steak. I opted for the chicken kabob, and it came with 3 huge pieces of chicken breast atop fresh romaine lettuce with tomatoes, onions, banana peppers, pickles, black olives, tabouleh, and feta cheese. All of the vegetables tasted fresh and delicious, and the feta cheese really adds a nice tangy acidity. The chicken breast was tender and well-seasoned, and the three dips on the side (hummus, tahini, and tzatziki) were perfect as dressings and/or dips. I particularly enjoyed the smooth nuttiness of both the hummus and tahini (which was a bit thinner), and the tangy, refreshing quality of the tzatziki. This was a huge salad that kept me full for hours on end. Overall, it's easy to see why East Side Pockets has been a Brown institution for years: the large portions of delicious, affordable food and fast service makes this a college student's dream, and we'll certainly be returning if we're ever back in the area!

Great spot for some Mediterranean fare. The Combo Chicken Kabob and Kafta Kabob wrap I got was chunky and quite a steal for $13! Both meats were succulent and had a delicious charred flavor. The other wrap ingredients looked and tasted fresh too. It was good enough for two meals! Easily recommend!

Ordered takeout, good food, friendly and fast service. Would def like to try more from the menu.

Falafel wrap and fries

I had heard incredible things about this place, so I decided to stop in for lunch. They offered a sample of falafel and hummus while I waited for my food, and it was delicious. However, the hot sauce was just ketchup with added spices. I hate ketchup, and it was not hot sauce like I paid for. It was in the wrap as well, so it made it not my favorite. Definitely ask for no hot sauce, even if you like spicy food. It is not spicy, and it is just ketchup. Total waste of money!

My partner and I got a falafel wrap and gyro wrap - TASTE: 5/5 - loved all of the offered toppings together, especially the hummus and tabouleh's parsley and tomatoes; the toppings took both wraps to the next level. The gyro wrap's Greek-style gyro meat was seasoned so well, very tasty! TEXTURE: 4/5 - enjoyed the combo of chewy wrap, fresh toppings, and crisp falafel. Wish the food came out slightly warmer though PRICE: 4/5 - reasonable menu with most entrees at only ~$10 SERVING SIZE: 4/5 - came hungry and left lunch satisfied SERVICE: 4/5 - walked in at 12:15pm on a Sunday and beat the rush; place filled up right after we sat down. Our food started coming out 5min after ordering ATMOSPHERE: 3/5 - a dated space, but lots of colorful Middle Eastern photos by the booths and good for a quick solo bite or w a small group PARKING: 4/5 - a handful of street spots were open on Thayer St

This is definitely one of my favorite late-night spots. I got served a beef and steak kebab wrap which is delicious, and my girl loves the Greek salad there. We say "Bon bagay!", good stuff!

Oh so yummy!! This is my fiancés (and sister's) favorite spot in Providence. The food is always so fresh, there are plenty of options and customizations, and so budget friendly!! The grilled chicken tastes so great with the grill marks and massive portions. I love how custom you can make your plate or gyro and with all the fresh veggies, makes it tastes even healthier. Wish we had an East Side Pockets near home! Also the back lava is heavenly and very inexpensive. 5 stars all around!

Amazing food! The line is always out the door but moves quickly. My go to for 20 years has been a "falafel with everything" sooooo good!

Combo wrap/ chicken and falafel (not the prettiest picture, but so TASTY)
Liza F.

First time visitor and was impressed by it all.. we were given falafel samples while we waited in line, yum! They made our food fresh as we ordered, ordering the combo, chicken and falafel. It was delicious and the portions were great! The falafel was left out of my wrap, but they remedied the mix-up by giving me a side order of 6pc of falafel w/hummus and tzatziki. Would definitely visit again!

The first time I came, it was a rainy weekday and this time it was a sunny weekend, so I was expecting an even larger crowd; and my prediction was correct. The line was just out the door but because of their awesome staff, the line was moving very quickly. While we waited in line, we could watch them making pastries through the glass, a couple feet in front of us. I admired that level of transparency. When we were third in line, the kindest lady asked us whether we'd be eating in or taking out and she took down our name to help us find a table when it came time. She did the same for the rest of the people in line. She also gave us some recommendations, including the cinnamon bun - apparently they're so good kids cry when they sell out. I didn't intend to order anything with my drink, but I couldn't get the cinnamon bun out of my head so I ordered it along with my iced spiced chai latte. The hen (I think it's their logo) on the aprons of the employees are super cute. We did secure a table. The tables are close together to maximize the number of people who can sit down but I didn't mind. I love their art all around, mostly of birds which I am obsessed with. I love that they have a lot of natural lighting coming through their tall windows. I also like the navy blue and white theme they have going on. The chai latte was perfect. It was the right color (a dark tan), meaning the ratio of tea and milk was good and I could taste a lot of the spices. The cinnamon bun blew my expectations away. The second my teeth made. contact with the icing, it was a magical feeling. I couldn't quite put my finger on what it tasted like, but the closest I got was dulce de leche. It is truly unlike any other cinnamon bun I have ever had. The dough is soft and there is a good amount of cinnamon. It's also $4 which is not bad. I had a bite of their canelé, which apparently requires a lot of work to make. It was very moist, with a great caramelized finish. I am super excited to try their new weekend dinner menu, but also more of their all day menu items.

That lasted about 30 seconds…read more The owner (adorable, by the way) was walking around checking on tables and making sure everyone was happy. It feels like her place in the best way -- warm, proud, hands-on. Pastries are legit. Super buttery, flaky enough to make a mess, clearly baked that morning. No sad, sitting-around-all-day vibes. Ordered the breakfast sandwich and that tomato jam needs to be illegal. Sweet, savory, slightly tangy -- it completely makes the sandwich. I kept trying to figure out how to recreate it at home. Not happening. Crispy chicken sandwich was properly seasoned and not dried out (why is that so hard for some places?). Fries were solid too -- crispy, not limp. And the kale salad with roasted chickpeas and chicken made me feel like I had my life together. Fresh, simple, and actually satisfying. It's one of those places you stumble into while traveling and then immediately start googling whether you can justify going back the next day.

I've had Indian food all around the world and always love ordering saag. When I tell you this was one of the BEST saags I've ever had I'm not lying. Quite honestly it was incredible. The spinach was blended very well, it was incredibly creamy, and there were even some chunks of onions and peppers throughout. The potatoes practically melted in my mouth but still had enough bite to contrast the creamy saag. The meal was spiced perfectly and offered a multitude of complex flavors. The portions were enormous. They definitely gave me enough rice and curry for atleast two meals. If this was the quality of one of their dishes I'm excited to try out more of their options! Our waiter, Joe, was knowledgeable about the food (and brought us an extra helping of bread) and gave excellent service. (We gave him a good tip.)
