I had my very first intro to reformer Pilates with DJ, and let me tell you--it mattered who was leading the class. In a fitness space that so often defaults to thin white bodies, stepping into a class with a rad POC instructor like DJ was critical. Representation matters, and she delivered on every level.
Her playlist? On point. Her instruction? Clear, hands-on when needed, and always demonstrated without making anyone feel lost. As a complete novice, I appreciated how she did a quick run-through of the language and movements before we even got started. That grounding made the class accessible while still challenging. And the exercises themselves? You had to earn every rep--no shortcuts here.
The studio space is gorgeous: spacious, filled with natural light, a giant window stretching across, and what looked like an upstairs area too.
One thing to note: no recording yourself during class (studio policy), but before or after you can definitely sneak a quick flick if you want to capture the vibe.
Bottom line: I left feeling worked and inspired. DJ isn't just an instructor, she's the kind of presence that makes you want to come back and keep going. read more
