Horrible customer service, not a good salon for certain hair needs. Do yourself a favor and don't go there

Love this gem of a salon and Miguel. He is a color master. My hair has never been happier or !! He knows his craft and is an excellent mentor to his assistants. He takes his time to explain the products and styling tips...if only I could curl like he does. All the stylist seem truly inspired by one another and continue their learning. Do yourself a favor and do not go here. I just moved to NJ and found Sarayah on Instagram and made an appt. In order to make an appt, you have to take a front and back picture of your current hair and the color you want. I am a natural brown and lighter highlights and wanted to go a darker chocolate brown with ashy blonde highlights. I got there and she told me she wouldn't be able to give me the ashy blonde highlights even though my hair was light. She then balayaged my hair and let her assistant put the darker dye in. I wasn't checked on once and the assistant left dye on my face, arms, neck etc and it wasn't until I asked for dye remover that they put it on my face but it was too late. I had to scrub it off when I got home. I also found dye all over my shirt when I got home. When she had her assistant blow out my hair, I wasn't facing a mirror nor was I when she BARELY cut my hair. I looked on the floor and there was literally once piece of my hair. She turned me around and was like have a nice day and I wasn't able to process the color when I first saw it. When I got home, I immediately cried because my hair was black with white balayage because she left it on for way too long. I called and asked for a refund. I wasn't asked if I wanted hairspray, the type of blow out, etc and to be honest the assistant burnt my ear on the curler. When I called back, I had a texting convo with the receptionist which was fine. I agreed to have her let her redo it. That night, I had found a video that Sarayah posted talking shit about me and called me a deeply unhappy person. I immediately texted the next day saying how unprofessional it was and inaccurate with no response. Avoid her like the plague. read more

* This salon is now located in Denville. I came here after seeing some beautiful balayage before/after photos on Instagram. I filled out a small questionnaire on their website and they contacted me pretty quickly to schedule my appointment with Lu. (To preface) I have a VERY hard time getting my hair done; I'm normally a very decisive person but when it comes to my hair, I have no idea what I want - I just want it to look great. I've had balayage that's not well-blended, came out too blonde when I wanted to preserve my own brunette hair color. It's a disaster and then I come home so upset that I spent hundreds of dollars and don't love how I look even though the stylist did exactly what I showed them. When I had my consultation with Lu, she explained to me the differences in the pictures I was showing her and really made sure to figure out what I liked about what I was looking at before we got started. She helped me find something that worked for me and grew in nicely because I color my hair so infrequently. She hand painted me and let me sit so my hair could lift (I hate this part of sitting and waiting but they have chargers, WiFi, drinks and snacks handy so the time goes by quickly). I had a great shampoo done by Nicole and then sat with a glaze for a bit. Afterwards I had probably the quickest (but best) haircut I've ever had, she blew my hair dry and styled it. At this point it was past normal salon hours and dark outside, so it was hard to really see how my color looked from my angle, but she took pictures for me under a ring light so that I could see the different colors/dimension better. It was exactly what I needed. After a wash or two I still really love how my color looks and I feel so ready for the summer. Thank you so much Lu! Other things: It was a bit chemically smelling, even with a mask on. This may have been because it was a random 90 degree day, but if you're sensitive to that just keep it in mind. I love being offered a drink and/or snack at the beginning of my service from the hostess (what do you call these in a salon? lol) but when you're there for 3+ hours maybe offer something again if you can? For a shy girl like myself, I'd really appreciate it (because I'm going to feel guilty calling you over on my own). read more

Sarayah continues to hide/delete my reviews on Google, I guess to save her reputation, but I have decided to post here, because instead of doing good business and responding, she has deleted it. Sarayah is known for going on her Instagram and SHAMING the people that write reviews (that she claims are completely inaccurate, but as an actual patron... they really do make sense). I haven't gone to Sarayah since she was at a disgusting salon in Parsippany. I am a dual licensed cosmetologist-esthetician. I stupidly put a bleach cap in my hair and the first time it came out so good, I decided to get a little happy with it. Even though I knew better from being a professional. I went to Sarayah because my friends had been posting about her on their Instagrams. I noticed that she had a knack for balayage, and I thought she could fix my hair by doing a REVERSE balayage. At first, she said she could do this, and then after leaving the chair I was sitting in, she came back approximately 25 minutes later while taking care of several other clients (seemingly not allowing her assistants to do absolutely anything, and being in the industry I know that she did this so she took the entirety of the tip). She came back and said she could not do what she thought she could, and she wanted to DYE MY HAIR COMPLETELY back to brown, and then put "some lights in it". She formulated horribly, this woman should only work with glosses and bleach. She had to reapply the haircolor because it was SO GREEN. For a single process, generally, it should take 30-35 minutes. She had the color sit on my hair and seemed to COMPLETELY FORGET about me until she let the color sit on my head for more than AN HOUR. She washed out, her assistant looked over her shoulder, in my opinion, desperate for work or maybe a tip, and I pointed out the green hues. She glossed me another darker brown color. My natural color is a VERY LIGHT BROWN. At the sink, she sloppily added some bleach to the WET pieces of hair, and after another 30 minutes, I was finally in her chair. (Mind you, she took a before picture of me, and she wanted to make an embarrassment out of me AS A PROFESSIONAL, she explained to me that this would "be perfect for her IG because it teaches people what NOT to do") After 5 FULL HOURS in her salon, without a mention of a "color correction", which btw, is exponentially higher than any other service, it is courtesy usually to let the patron know what they will be paying, she didn't let me know until I got to the register. She cut off practically all my hair, did a shitty blow-out, and pretended like a hair-wand can fix anybody's issues. My hair doesn't keep a curl for shit. To add insult to injury, she didn't take an AFTER photo, so she must've been embarrassed of her work, of me, or I was JUST TOO UGLY for her precious IG. She is highly overrated, not personable, and I have not had a haircut SINCE THEN due to her. Do not support her new salon. As a 21-year-old girl, without warning, she charged me over $1k for a color correction I was never warned or prepared for. Disgrace. She is one of the nastiest people I have ever met too. read more

Öwner Lu does not listen to her customers.. She's a prima donna and think she knows more than she does when it comes to coloring !! Had to go somewhere else after a terrible experience and have it corrected. read more

There really is no word other than AMAZING to describe Sarayah. Sarayah touched my hair 2 years ago and has brought me back to life. I had a bad experience wherein my hair was burned off and I found Sarayah via Instagram to see if she could help me fix what happened. It has been a long two years but thanks to Sarayah and her attention to detail and her concern of the integrity of my hair rather than the color I wanted to achieve has literally transformed my hair back to its original state with obviously her magical touch.
