One of the better Chinese or Asian restaurants within 45 minutes. Very solid if not stellar food. Efficient kitchen, ladies running the counter are pleasant and do a good job with orders and customization. Restaurant is a cross between a sit down waitress experience and a take out. Place your order at the counter, then wait for your take out, or sit down and the counter ladies will bring your food to your table as it's ready. It comes in plastic dollar-store type bowls and plates, kind of weird but I guess it keeps prices down. Food is good! Egg rolls have little flecks of BBQ (red) pork and aren't all tough cabbage like other places in the 15 mile radius. Hot and sour soup good - not vinegary, good balance of hotness. The combo platters are good sized, as are the individual entrees. General Tso sauce is of the sweet, not spicy, style that seems standard in Maryland. Kung Pao is good. Most spicier dishes are not heavy on spice, but they will increase the heat factor if asked. read more

It's your standard run-of-the-mill small town Chinese restaurant. Prices are reasonable and portion sizes are excellent (they don't skimp on the meat and load up boxes with rice like so many Chinese restaurants do). Food also comes out fairly fast and there's sit down seating available. Several local papers for entertainment if you're waiting for food. read more

Perhaps I ordered the wrong dish but I wasn't impressed with the food. I'll definitely try another dish at another time. I certainly don't want to bash any restaurant without at least trying it out again. The staff were friendly and nice. This is really good Chinese. I am alllll about the pan fried dumpling. The filling is always fresh and delicious and the dipping sauce is . My wife is a big fan of the chicken with broccoli and we always share a pork fried rice. Portions are large, and the food has always been ready quick when I've ordered. The ladies working the front are very friendly and the dining room has been clean every time I've been in. Would recommend to friends! read more

At East Cafe, I had the worst Chinese food experience in years. I ordered Singapore noodle on the menu -- something pretty basic. They managed to serve me some slimy, soy source drenched noodles with bad shrimps. To top it all, they serve the dish on a green plastic plate!!! It would be better if they had just used paper plate. They must have gotten the plastic bowls and plates at a discount store in Chinatown. Obviously, the owner doesn't care about his business, nor do I care to go back! read more

I like East Cafe, they're fast and the food is always tasty. They've never messed up our order and have no issue with special requests. Tonight we ordered over the phone and asked for the order to be repeated back because we had such a large order. The woman taking the order was very rude, seemed bothered and spoke quickly. After we picked up our Chinese we realized that we didn't get our Sweet & Sour chicken, we called back to the restaurant and they were very rude again and said we never ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken and hung up on us... Rude..rude..rude. Honestly the food is average for the price and not worth the unprofessional staff. We have been going to this restaurant for 6 years and will not be going back. I have been here a few times and it was always pretty good. Tonight I ordered something different, the crispy beef and it wasn't very good. Nothing like what I have had at other restaurants. It had tons of breading and was very soggy but not a bad flavor. It was a very big portion though. I still think I would give it another chance I would just order differently. read more

I like East Cafe. It's your basic Americanized Chinese place - nothing fancy, you order at a counter and there are some basic tables in the place - but the food is tasty and they make it quickly. They don't have a problem with our special order and are friendly when we come in - good enough for me! read more

Good Asian food served quickly by a friendly staff. Prepared "American style" - that is to say very mild. Good flavor, but if you like spicy Thai or Chinese, you'll be a bit disappointed. They've been here for quite some time while others in the area went out of business. read more

Very happy! Granted, it was just General Tso's chicken, but the flavor and texture was great as so was the portion which is not something everyone gets right. By far the best I know of in Calvert. The interior seemed clean, and the staff was friendly. It seems to be geared for take out but there would be no issue having dinner in the restaurant, as some folks were doing. Yesterday my sister and I whent here for the second time and we where still not satisfied with the food

My family tried this for the first time yesterday after hiking for 3 miles and after seeing the great reviews. To say the least, after the hike we were hungry! We spent $80 dollars (family of 5) and all of us were so disappointed. Nothing had any flavor. Children generally like fried rice. My kids, (6, 7, and 12) thought it was a thumbs down. My husband thought his rice was old, dried out, so I cooked him some extra. My orange chicken was nothing more than General Zso's with a few orange peels. I tried the lo mein and rice and both could not stand on it's own. You had to add sauces to get any flavor. I will never go there again. read more
