A fun place for lunch, even/especially on a rainy winter Saturday. Extraordinary to look at from the outside and great looking at the sea from the inside.
Food selection was from pure cafe to pretty smart eating. We ordered Moules Marinieres that was actually Moules a la Creme - good mussels, but the cream sauce lacked flavour; razorfish and clams which were delicate though inveitably a little chewy; a pineapple parfait and passionfruit juice with a thin slice of caramelised pineapple on top (a heavenly dessert!) and a comforting steamed pear pudding with a very good chocolate sauce.
The service was always friendly, but our waitress forgot to offer water, bread while we waited or a drink with the main meal - not big matters but cumulatively a bit surprising. Another waitress was a great deal more observant, so it may depend who you get.
The ambiance is delightful, and the sea is close - at least at high tide. Very child-friendly, but surprisingly not too echoey (a pet bugbear as I have a hearing loss). Loads of parking in the beach car partk right next to the cafe, though disabled access is up a ramp at the far end of the car park. We look forward to returning!
