Real Dog Academy - Rocky after a training session.

Real Dog Academy

So grateful for Drake as a trainer and walker!!! He's got a reputation - He's the guy that OTHER…read morewalkers/trainers refer clients to when they don't know how to handle a dog they're working with - including mine! Drake was referred to me by another dog walker who couldn't handle Tia. I first called Drake to do a training session and told him all the things I was worried about - distracted around other dogs, lunging towards other dogs, etc. The first training place he picked was Lake Merritt on a weekend where there are TONS of dogs. Before this, I always walked across the street when I saw other dogs. By the end of a little over an hour, Tia was lying down just casually, letting other dogs pass by. I tried many group sessions with other trainers prior to this but still never felt confident enough to practice with Tia in such a busy setting. A lot of other trainers would give tips that sometimes seemed more appropriate for a small/medium dog (Tia is 60 lbs, I'm 110lbs - "no pull" harnesses and martingale collars were not cutting it). Drake was so much more relatable because he has so much experience with big dogs and small. I seriously give this guy so much credit for giving me the tools and confidence to work with Tia. Training now is actually fun and not daunting! I can now take Tia to trips on hikes, walks around the lake, breweries, etc. multiple times a week! Tia now also gets to hang out with Drake on a weekly basis and even has her own "pack." Since I've been able to better train with her and her walks with Drake, there's been a HUGE change in her behavior for the better! Can't believe I used to think she would not be able to be around other dogs!

Buster is so chill on walks now! It's amazing! Thank you Real Dog Academy for all your help with…read moretraining, care, and encouragement! Bravo!!!!

I began my experience with Save the Mailmen BEFORE training/consultation actually began. I called…read moreDavid (the owner) after my five month old Cocker Spaniel; Ollie growled at me. (it was NOT a puppy growl) I realized later that it was my fault as I was getting frustrated after several days of unwanted behavior, and my dog sensed it and reacted to me. David came to my home that same day on his own time to do a brief assessment of Ollie. His initial assessment was that my husband and I were not the right parents for Ollie, and he suggested we should consider re-homing him. I must have looked pathetic, as my hand was shaking as he suggested what to write in our ad. I told him my husband and I have never given up on a dog. David did say that Ollie did have the aptitude to learn and then suggested that he would have our trainer Angela Shelly reassess Ollie after two training sessions and we'd go from there. This was an unscheduled assessment, and David ended up staying for three hours to learn more about my dog and my home life. Fast forward two months later, we have just completed our training. I was actually sad that Angela didn't have any more scheduled training with Ollie. Over the training with Ollie, my friendship with Angela grew. What I loved is the flexibility of training. One week, I didn't feel like my dog had progressed well, and asked if we could wait until the following week. The scheduling is always flexible depending upon what is going on in your own home or the trainers. Another thing I liked is Angela's support if I needed to modify parts of the training. Once a customer, your trainer is always available via text/calling. I was a customer BEFORE training began, and you'll love having the training at your home. Ollie is still a puppy, but I finished training knowing that I was the one being taught by Angela, so I can continue training with my dog. I am very happy with Save The Mailmen. Pat K. Meridian

Much wasted time and money sadly. Our "trainer" advised us that the owner/manager "David" decided to change our final session meeting from the park to our home/neighborhood, which would NOT serve our dog or us well for our expressed purpose of this "training" so we declined to waste our time further. We had already wasted the money. It is also important to match the trainer with the best/right experience for specific training needs and sadly, this was obviously not done either. It shouldn't be whose available, but who is the best match! We relied on professionalism in that choice and were let down.

I recently boarded my one year old boxer and older GSP here while out of town for a long weekend…read more My boxer, Chief, has been socialized nonstop since he was 11 weeks old, and is the friendliest and sweetest boy. When I picked him up the owner told me that my dog was the best behaved boxer he'd ever encountered.. and then told me that he hadn't been in a fight, but that he had sustained some scratches on his neck because of a puppy he was playing with. I tried to get a good look at the facility, but my GSP was running circles around me and tangling me up with her leash... and to be honest I didn't expect anything too bad. I've seen my boy wrestle with big pups at the dog park since he was tiny, and he's had a scrape or two but for the most parts dogs seem to know their limits. But after getting Chief home and getting a better look at his wounds, I simply can't believe that they were inflicted by playtime with a puppy. He's been in plenty of very rowdy play-fights at dog parks and has never sustained wounds like that. It kept opening up and bleeding for two days after we brought him home. I can't understand how, if the playtime is supervised as their website states, the aggressive behavior was allowed to go so far before someone intervened. When I dropped off my dogs the three employees there were all watching something on an iPad... apparently that is the norm for their "constant supervision". I emailed them to voice these concerns prior to writing a negative review, as I wanted to give them a chance to defend themselves... zero response. I'm lucky my sweet puppy wasn't more seriously injured, and will certainly not ever trust this facility with my fur babies again. If you have any love for your pets at all you'll take your business elsewhere.

She loved to go to "school" and socialize with her friends! We loved that shot records are required so you know that your tiny pup is in no danger of Parvovirus. We finished puppy one and actually went straight into puppy two. Sheba learned SO much in both classes, she is a joy to be around because of her training. Lou is patient yet firm and knows when to push to pups and when they need a break. Just like the "kids" they are, not everyday is their best learning day and sometimes they need a break. He also uses positive reinforcement training never aggression. Sheba now goes to "daycare" three days a week and it is AMAZING! Not only does she come home exhausted from playing but she has learned how to properly play and socialize with other dogs. We cannot say enough about how amazing good citizen is!!!
