The USS Nebraska's keel was laid down in May 26, 1987 ; it was launched on August 15, 1992 and commissioned on July 10, 1993. The sub is home to 1 of two crews for a typical deterrent mission under the MAD strategy for an average of 77 days. Each crew consists of ~17 officers, ~15 petty officers and ~122 enlisted men. The USS Nebraska has completed 18 deterrent missions as of September of 2010. This is the second Navy Ship to honor the State of Nebraska. Duty rotation for the crew is 18 hours with 6 hours at the primary duty station, ~6 hours of other duties. However, officers, however, typically are on for 14 hours or longer. This is the routine for the entire tour of duty. Aside from 24 Trident Ballistic missiles complete with MIRVs (Multiple Independent Reentry Vehicles), the sub features 4 forward torpedo tubes. 4 of the 18 Ohio class submarines are designed SSGNs and are equipped with cruise missiles instead of Trident Missiles. The tour allowed us to see the silos and torpedo bay including the control rooms for each. We also the Mess, the Ward room, the Petty Officers room, the berths of various personal and the bathrooms. The Control center and sonar rooms as well as misc machine rooms were part of the tour. The only areas pretty much off-limits to the friends and families touring the Nebraska was the engine room, nuclear reactor room and sail. We were treated to lunch which was 2 star food with 5 star service. During deployment, the kitchen is active 24/7 and the lunch we were served seemed to reflect what was served on board Kudos to the men (and soon woman) who go on watch on this sub. There was plenty of food at every stop, and each bite showcased the incredible variety that makes Pike Place Market so special. What really made the experience stand out was Frankie. She was knowledgeable, energetic, and kept the tour fun from start to finish. Her passion for the market and its vendors was contagious, and she shared interesting stories and local insights that made the experience feel much more personal than just a food crawl. Great food, great atmosphere, and an amazing guide. If you're on the fence about booking this tour, don't be. Come hungry. Frankie absolutely rocked it!

I love her enthusiasm, knowledge, historical facts, and information she shared with us regarding Pike Place Market and its vendors. The curated food samples around the market were well-organized, generously portioned, and delicious. I highly recommend this tour for both locals and tourists alike. I am a local Seattleite. I did this tour for the first time over 10 years ago and was pleased that it wasn't exactly the same places we stopped at before. Plus, it reminded me to go back and support businesses that I had forgotten about and to continue exploring the market and to come back often because this place is truly a gem and worthy of our support for being 100% local and run by small business owners. Today was a perfect afternoon well spent :-)

Highly recommend visiting this spot if it's your first time in Bainbridge!…read more I am so happy that my friend and I made this stop while exploring the area. There is so much cool history about the island and it made us appreciate it all the more! The staff is super friendly and it's such a wonderful and free museum that you can check out while on the island. I loved learning about their pickleball history and also about the other great community of people that make up island. They have puzzles and little activities as well as some tree photography that was showcased while we were there.

There are two public rooms: a larger room (about the size of a large living room) for the main exhibits and a smaller room with island history in photography. There was also a private research and reading room (perhaps for members, staffers, and researchers only). I like that this museum acknowledges various communities: LGBTQIA+, faith groups, and different cultures who lived on the island. Each got it's own spotlight. It also was fantastic about crediting locals who helped gather or supply information as well as trying to identify some of the people featured (e.g., in photos). There was a fun acrylic jigsaw puzzle of a map of Bainbridge in the main room that I put together. Overall, I think it's worth about 30-60 minutes of your time to swing by and learn about this island.

Booked ahead of time and made my way here at the time I chose. Once here, scan your QR code, get in line and wait until the boat is ready to be boarded. Don't do like other people, walking up to the loading area in the wrong direction expecting to be let on the boat because you are entitled. Once onboard, you will get the safety messages. There are a lot of places to go on the boat. Most will automatically go to the third level, the top deck with all the chairs. Where one might think that you would get the best views. I did this, that is until I felt boxed in and realized I could walk around at free will. Instead I found a place at the stern that gave me better views. I also would transfer to the bow every so often depending on where we were on the tour. This would be the second level, where you could purchase food, drink and souvenirs. The best part of this cruise/tour, I learned more about the history of city than I did on just wandering around. Learned about the history of the city on where things were, why they are there, and deep dives into buildings and companies of the city. The tour starts at Pier 55, and heads north. Going past other piers, waterfront landmarks, and neighborhoods. Seeing corporate campuses, industrial piers, islands, bases, cargo ships, and much more. An hour cruise sure did pack in the history for the city. Plus the captain was entertaining and knowledgeable. Be sure to pay attention during the tour, you'll get the inside scoop on the city and what to seek out when you are exploring.
