Delicious, yet spendy protein drinks that I'm unfortunately addicted to. I originally discovered Earthbar @ LAX T6 (I thought it used to be an actual cafe near West Hollywood). Then Project Juice on 4th St in Berkeley morphed into an Earthbar. I was grateful to have it nearby when I was going through cancer treatment a few years ago as they offer a wide variety of healthy juice and heavy protein drink options. Lots of good herbal tonics and add ons to boost the overall healthiness of the smoothie, too. My only complaints are the cost and the fact they still do not offer compostable cups - or straws, for that matter. I think if they're going to call the company "earth"bar and offer special drinks to support environmental causes during April, they could at least follow through with some earth friendly cups & straws. He went to speak with the female cashier and then returns and says no, he's not going to fix our bowls; that the portions were the same but the cups were bigger. Not true. I've come to Earthbar for its açaí bowls and smoothies and so far they've both been enjoyable! The store is sleek and clean, and the customer service is top-notch. The last smoothie I ordered was a Berry Blaze. It was good but slightly more bitter than sweet. I haven't noticed a huge different between Earthbar and Project Juice. If anything, Earthbar's service has been quicker the last few times I visited. There aren't many other juice and smoothie bars in West Berkeley, so I'm grateful for this spot! Very friendly staff and great smoothie selection to choose from. I got the muscle up and it was pretty good. I didn't have to wait too long for the drink to complete, since I was there an hour before close for the day. Whey protein, almond milk and butter, banana as the main ingredients, so it's dairy-free, for anyone who can't handle lactose (like me!). It was great not having to search for a spot and then walk mile to here. Plus this little shopping center is so cute! It is small but it is mighty! Same stuff, different day! Project Juice has given way to earthbar! earthbar takes over Project Juice's old location, some of the old staff, and retains/expands on the menu. The interior has gotten a facelift that trades in PJ's ceiling-hanging plants and dine-in seating for a sleeker (but somewhat less welcoming) and lapidarian interior. What once were areas where people could sit inside and dine (pre-COVID) have now been replaced by shelves running the length of the store stock full of purchasable items and, on the other side, an expanded waste-bin area. Project Juice app users were sent an email to reset their passwords. Points have been transferred over to earthbar, and you'll need to also download the earthbar app to order from this location now. Sadly, on the first day of its opening, the earthbar app currently does not work. I spoke with an employee who informed me that it's currently being worked on and an update should be forthcoming. But, how's the food? My previous review for Project Juice raved about the açaí bowls here. They were, in my humble opinion, the best bowls I've had here in Berkeley. Pricey too, but well-worth it enough for me to continuously return. The bowls have changed from being short and wide to being taller and probably just as wide. The volume of the bowls may have increased, but so has the price. Project Juice's classic açaí bowl rang in at $11.25; the same bowl from earthbar now costs $13 (technically $12.95). A ~$1.75 increase seems negligible, but Project Juice's price were already pretty steep and these new prices (even if they're because of logistics issues caused by COVID) aren't making it any more accessible. For the taste, I'm sad to say that I'm not a fan. The classic açaí bowl is waterier than PJ's. The almond butter bowl loses the rich, nutty flavor crafted by PJ and, in its place, is a relatively generic fruitier and tangier taste that I could probably get at another açaí bowl place with more affordable prices. It's not to say it's bad, of course! Just that it feels like a step down for me. I will add a disclaimer that I do believe the final taste of the bowls are usually dependent on the staff making them. Even at PJ there was some discrepancy between quality (shoutout to Jordan from PJ who puts together the best bowls, I think!). The staff at earthbar looks really new, and I didn't recognize many of the old PJ staff that I used to see often at the store today. My guess is that the staff members will need some time to experiment and maybe tinker with the bowls before getting back to the same speed as PJ. Even today, the staff mistakenly gave me the wrong number of items from what I ordered. So there's definitely room for improvement, and I'm confident that things at the store will run smoother as time goes on. All in all, earthbar is succeeding Project Juice. It's got a fresh look, pretty much the same menu, and, as far as some of the açaí bowls goes, an OK quality that makes me yearn for the PJ of yore. read more

Customer service is great, I met the new general manager L today and he was so nice and helpful in picking out a new smoothie for me to try, we settled on the Mint Chip and I loved it, totally tastes like mint chip ice cream. I placed an order for a bowl and bottled juice this past saturday, with the expected wait time of 10 minutes. I arrived around that time and there was a sign on the door that said they would be back in thirty minutes. I waited outside for thirty minutes (watching many customers want to go inside but walk away after seeing the sign) and lo and behold, the one employee had been on her break that entire time, sitting right outside the door. When she got off her break, she proceeded to take orders and I approached her to ask about my online order. She said that the wifi was down and had not received my order. She proceeded to make other peoples' orders and finally made mine. I ended up waiting an hour for my bowl from the time that I had initially placed the order. I overheard her telling other customers that she was the only one working and that she wouldn't have help for another few hours. Mind you, I used to work here not too long before it became Earthbar and we used to have several employees during this time of day on a Saturday. When things were crazy, our manager would come in on her day off to give us a hand or she would request for an employee from another location to come help out. I really hope Earthbar is able to help their employees more. Anyone else addicted to acai bowls right now? I can't get enough! I want to try all the acai bowls in the Bay Area and I had to come check out Project Juice in Berkeley! I went on a Sunday morning and it wasn't crowded at all. Plenty of parking at the parking lot which is a bonus in Berkeley! I am going to come here more often just because I know parking isn't difficult. What I ordered: 1) Acai superberry with classic topping style * $11.25 2) Mint chip smoothie * $9.95 I really liked my acai bowl but wasn't a fan of my smoothie. I don't know what made me think mint would be a good smoothie flavor but it kind of grew on me at the end. I wouldn't order it again though. I do want to add that this place is a bit pricy! I spent $22 for both the smoothie and acai bowl. That's a bit steep especially for a smoothie. The fact that I didn't like my smoothie was a bit disappointing too. I stopped in here for breakfast and placed my order for pickup so it was ready when I got there. This place is located on fourth street in a nice, relaxing area with outdoor seating. A nice spot to study and get some work done if the weather is nice! I tried the hot protein oats and the brain alchemy latte. Both were super delicious and the quality of the ingredients really showed through. The brain alchemy drink tasted like a healthier hot chocolate due to the latte base being raw cacao. The protein oats were super filling and the hot oats included vanilla brown rice protein, coconut, probiotic coconut yogurt, honey, and then topped with berries and bananas. While in the area, I felt like I needed a little pick me up and was craving a green juice/smoothie. I was looking at Yelp and someone said this was a perfect place to get something after a night of drinking. I was looking at the menu and noticed the menu items were a little more on the pricey end, given all of the ingredients. The store front is pretty open and I was greeted by a very friendly worker which helped me choose my drink. She recommended some of the protein packed drinks but I said I wanted more of a green drink. She recommended Marina Greens or Peace, Love, and Kale. She said Marina Greens was more of a tart drink. I wasn't feeling too tarty so I decided to go for Peace, Love, and Kale. I purchased my drink all contact less through Apple Pay and I waited for less than 5 minutes. They also provide bamboo straws! I was afraid it was a paper straw and that I was going to struggle with drinking it but there was a loud screech when putting it in the cup for me to figure out it was bamboo. Boy was I surprised how creamy and how much coconut flavor was in it! Peace Love and Kale is described as coconut water, coconut meat, kale, spinach, date, and cinnamon. It was pretty thick and too can tell there was some type of texture and a different substance to it-- probably the coconut meat, date and cinnamon mixture. I really enjoyed it and didn't feel like it was too sweet. I would definitely want to come back to try one of their açaí bowls on a nice warm day! I love project juice and hope they get more locations that have all the food and smoothies like this one does. I love the Blue moon shake/smoothie. I can't wait to try some of their other stuff like the Paleo waffles and açaí bowls. My only qualm is that from location to location the consistency differs. I would think they are following recipes and measurement but that doesn't seem to be the case. It doesn't stop me from getting my $10 smoothies though! Any time I am near one of these, I will surely stop in. Right now I am only aware of locations in the Mission, Hayes Valley, and Fourth Street Berkeley. [During Covid Review] This place is located on fourth street just a street past the Apple store and next to Warby Parker. There is a small backlot for customers to park without having to pay. If one cannot find parking there, there is street parking with meters along with a couple other lots on 4th street that you don't have to pay. This location does follow the guidelines for Covid where they aren't letting customers inside. Rather, they a table in front of their entrance and they have a glass divider to separate themselves from their customers. While they don't provide hand sanitizers, they do ensure that all employees wear gloves. They have their menus posted on their front door and also on the side. They try to keep customers 6 ft apart; however, I didn't see any signs on the floor saying where customers could go after ordering so it ended up where a bunch of us were all huddled together. I ended up ordering the Berry smoothie and I expected it to be a long time since there was a long line already forming. I ended up getting my drink in less than 5-10 minutes. Great smoothies made fast. Close to Core Power Yoga and SoulCycle and a big free parking lot. My go to is the Epic Greens with a little extra almond butter. If you like a big gobble-o-greens smoothie this one's a winner. They have oatmeal too, and with some bananas and almond butter on it, that bowl will keep you fed, full and happy all morning. One thing I like is their smoothies don't have that protein powder flavor unless you ask for it. Wish I could rate this place 2.5, so rounding up. I went here today for the second time to get an acai bowl. When I went here for the first time a few months back I was struck by the very new/untrained employee who was nice but didn't seem like she knew what she was doing. The consistency of the acai bowl she made was thinner than a smoothie, like cold soup. I saw her blending it and the other, more seasoned, employee recommended adding more frozen fruit if it needed to be thickened, which it seems like she disregarded. The top was also completely drenched in honey rather than the standard drizzle. Today I was in the mood for another acai bowl and had an errand to run at fourth street so decided to give it another chance. I tried to order ahead online because I remembered having to wait more than 10 minutes the first time, but I kept getting an error on the site. As I was waiting for my bowl, another customer who'd already placed his order, and holding a to-go box from them, came in. One of the employees was making smoothies and immediately asked him if he'd ordered a chocolate smoothie. He said he had made the order about 10 minutes ago and asked where the smoothie was. The employee proceeded to tell him that since he'd left the store after buying some food as well, she thought maybe he didn't want the smoothie????? The guy clearly stepped out to do something else instead of waiting around for the drink to be made in the tiny area by the counter, and the employees just had decided not to make his order. He then asked how long it would take to get it as they clearly hadn't started and was told 5-10 minutes. This whole encounter seemed preposterous as an onlooker, and the customer (understandably in my opinion) did start to become a little rude. He was in no mood to take the 25% next order coupon that the older employee offered as compensation for the mistake. They grudgingly made his order, slowly, after several others. Anyway, the bowl I got today ($17 with protein powder added) was fine. I asked for light honey which was the right call. There's a ton of acai compared to the toppings, and the consistency was thicker but still slushier than others I've had. Super delicious! I equally liked the regular açaí base & the green base, but I will note the açaí was sweeter. I enjoyed the cinnamon granola a lot at first, but as I kept eating, the cinnamon started to overpower the rest of the bowl. Otherwise, I love and appreciate that you get so many cashews in a bowl considering how expensive they are to buy. I'm knocking off a star only because it seems like they're really inconsistent with sizing.
