Simply amazing. I don't usually go with someone unless I have done exhaustive research. Still, they were working on our next-door neighbor's yard who said she got their name from another neighbor, and well, since they were already there, and our yards are adjacent. The fencing would be moved closer to my yard after stone walls were put up... and you can see the complexity here... so I decided to go with them after meeting Chris. First of all, Chris is really down to earth, I trusted him immediately. He also likes to text (my preferred method of communication) and he also followed up with emails. He was super responsive and when we went back and forth a few times, he did not show any impatience. He offered options and suggestions, and when I asked for a recommendation he would pick an option and tell me why. I loved that. His crew is amazing. When they are here to work, they WORK. Contacted these guys following a friends recommendation to come help us re-landscape our yard in Waltham. Despite their website saying they are located in Medford and having photos of work that they have done previously in Waltham and towns much further afield and doing work in Winchester and Arlington which are all 15 mins away - apparently Waltham is too far!!! Chris and Greg worked with us installing our landscaping, including patio and walkway. They planted a new lawn with an irrigation system. They were fun to work with and created a truly "different look" with the plants and tree choices. We have continued with their fertilizer program for many years. If I could tear down my whole house and rebuild it entirely with stone just to have Earth Stone and Water do the work, I would. This company is AMAZING, and I feel that isn't a strong enough word to describe them. We were referred to ESW by another local company and met with them to discuss installing a patio in the backyard of our new house in Stoneham. The quote/design process with Chris was easy and he was very responsive. Greg led the install team which was just unbelievable to watch. There were a few major unexpected issues that popped up with our existing property during the installation. Greg kept us apprised of those things, had occasional quick meetings with us, and offered options for solutions. Greg & Chris from Earth Stone & Water built a patio for me in Melrose several years ago - at the time I picked them because the price was in line with others and it was clear they would be the best folks to work with. After their superb work in Melrose, I didn't even contact anyone else for my much larger project in Winchester this fall. They were a delight to work with from the initial quote all the way through to completion. In both Melrose and Winchester, they made great suggestions that added a lot to the finished project - the stone circle patterns you see in the photos weren't in our original design, nor were the curves of the beds and retaining walls. The most impressive part of the Winchester project was how they and their crew continued doggedly on through "the wettest fall on record" - even as the project was taking much longer than expected, they continued to make suggestions for how to improve the result, all without nickel-and-diming me, keeping clear on overall cost for any changes (a couple of which they just threw in because they thought it would make such a difference in the result!) Even the retaining wall includes a lot of fill and drainage you can't see in the final result - work other companies might easily have skimped on as the project dragged on. They seem to be pretentious about what jobs they will choose to take on from my experience and from some others' I have read. To be honest they did a beautiful job on my neighbors yard, but then they considered the job I asked for to be beneath them and the guy who came out to assess didn't even pretend to not be pretentious and cold about it. So thats a 1 star for customer service or even basic social skills... If you can afford the ridiculous prices though sure they will make your yard look great, to be fair. Miracle workers! Amazing! They did the best job with the landscaping at our place. Our house started to look like one of America's most desperate yards. All the grass had died and we let the weed run rampant everywhere. We were at a loss, it had gotten so bad that we just gave up. My friend had used them at his place and I remembered what an incredible job they did ... so I contacted them. They were collaborative and were very reasonably priced. We had some issues with the fencing from Home Depot, and Chris even came out the next day to finish it up - even though the issue wasn't Earth Stone Water's problem. They did exactly what they said they would do, on time and without any hassle, which is really all we can ask for. Last spring 2019 they offered a new micro nutrient program to help feed and nurture our lawn. Initially we were a little hesitant because we don't have an irrigation system. After discussing it we decided to give it a try. Mother nature provided us with a fair amount of water last summer. But there was a good amount of time we were on our own to make sure it was getting what it needed. And frankly that didn't always happen. We were pleasantly surprised as weeks went on to see how green and thick our lawn was becoming. Even in August during the real heat of the summer it still looked as thick and green as a golf course. Everything looks great: the pavers, the layout, the landscaping, that weird area that used to be under our back porch which is no longer weird and now a great storage space. I especially appreciate how communicative Greg was. Emails, phone calls, follow-ups, and information in response to my multiple questions. And finally, the EWS crew was fantastic. They were pleasant, cheerful despite the heat wave they were unlucky enough to have to work through, did nice work, and picked up even the tiniest debris after they were finished. Holy crap. These guys are amazing!.... one of the lowest bids we received on replacing our front walk and repointing our stone walls. Greg was open to negotiating, which really sealed the deal. They started work immediately, and after two work days, we are now the proud owners of a beautiful new path!
