I read all the review here and had very high hopes. I'm sure that Jason and ASC do excellent work, but I'll never know as, contrary to what others have experienced here, communication does not seem to be a strong point. I've sat on this review for several weeks, to make sure I did not write a negative review in the "heat of the moment". In fact, I was going to let it go, figuring Jason must have been just having a bad day or something. But he had to get the last word in via e-mail, and was very rude and condescending. So I figured I would share my experience. Checked out the website, and, as requested, sent an email asking for a quote for some work on Monday. Did receive a reply the next day via e-mail stating that he would be out sometime during the week to take a look at the work. I wait. Friday, since I haven't heard back from him or seen him, I reach out to him again. I'm told he'll look at it over the weekend. Great. I make sure I'm available over the weekend. Monday comes, and still no sign of him. I reach out again to him again. He says he'll be out to look at the job by the following Sunday. I send him a little note indicating that being busy is a *good* thing, but he should set expectations appropriately. If he couldn't get out to look at my job for 2 weeks, just say that up front! He fires back a response immediately saying he can no longer look at my job because my "Your pressure is too much". And how dare I tell him how to run a company. And that he never missed an appointment, neglecting the emails indicating he would look at my job "this week", "over the weekend", I guess those aren't hard commitments. I guess in the end I should thank him, as I did the work myself and am now the proud owner of some great new tools, and probably saved a few bucks in the long run! read more

Update: ASC has sent me 1 message through Yelp, 1 e-mail yesterday and 4 more this morning. I'll start with his latest since he threatening to take this to his lawyer and Yelp. Oops make that 5 e-mail - he sent another one before I could even finish this update. Here is the second to the last e-mail he's sent... 9/4/15: "Please read the the dates and times of the 3 emails we just forwarded over to you from last year. It shows that we were very quick to rectify the previous requests you were having. We offered to move forward within minutes only/never ignoring you- on the tree removal after an exterminator referral was set in motion...you never communicated from that point on-we were left in the dark. Please-the truth is your review was inaccurate and not truthful. The evidence/emails/back log show the truth Miss xxxxx. We are not thieves and we are not liars-we take care of our clients 100% to the best of our ability. Please update or remove your latest review of ASC Tree Service. I am reaching out to you before having to gather up our notes and evidence proving we were dependable and honest-and taking them to my lawyer and setting a meeting with YELP-this is completely unfair :( Do the right thing PLEASE." I can't post them all as Yelp won't permit that... we're talking about 18 e-mails and counting. 8/4/15 "Due to improper pruning practices and climbing techniques, use of tree Spikes, from the previous Tree Service caused several open and unnecessary injuries; leading to decay to the interior wood of this tree. Upon a visual inspection, this tree continues to be in good health. However, upon inspection of the trees base, proof of Carpenter ants was found. These insects will only go after dead and or decaying wood or soft tissue in standing or felled wood. To further assess the health and possible severity of the decay, a level 3 assessment is recommended. This type of inspection consists of allowing Steve Murphy to ascend this tree and inspect all major unions as well as any old pruning cuts, open cavities and any other possible injuries that may be in the upper canopy. The use of Ant Bait will also be used upon finding where they are entering and exiting the trees interior wood. The goal here is to kill the queen and therefore killing out or altogether removing the colony. The total for this type of assessment shall total $500.00 Cash ( It is preferable that homeowner be home at the time of this assessment as to answer any questions that may arise) Upon completion of the assessment, homeowner will be notified of findings and any recommended actions; If any." 8/5/15: "Great! Was certainly hoping to help you save your tree. Will talk to Steve and let him know of the situation and keep you posted." "Just consulted with Steve. He is stating the exterminator was incorrect. This is known for a fact. There was no guarantee in regards to controlling the outcome unfortunately. However lets take this a step further before deciding- please call Walid @ 978 609-1268. He specializes in tree pesticide application, diagnosis and treatment. If Walid does recommend complete removal we will take the next step starting with a reassessment of the tree to be removed. Thank you," Here is a slightly altered review since I don't want to get sued (unless I'm missing another reason why he is threatening to send his e-mails to his attorney): I contacted ASC to have a tree with wood dust at the base evaluated. They swung by and confirmed that carpenter ants were nesting in the tree and offered to put ant baits and other pesticides into the tree, to kill the ants and presumably save it. Jason also SAID VERBALLY that if that didn't work they'd come back and cut the tree down and apply the $500 towards cutting the tree. A couple of days after they put the ant baits in the tree, the baits fell out onto the ground. After a call with a local pest company it seemed far more prudent to cut the tree down. ASC turned right around and claimed that the LICENSED pest company was wrong. read more

When requesting the estimate, I replied via email as suggested per the voicemail and was replied to the next day. Steve came out and did the estimate which I believed was fair for climbing vs. bucket/crane work. For me, the email communication with Jason was fine and responsive. Within a week of getting the estimate, the team was out to do the work. We had two 75 foot oaks pruned, 2 trees cut down (which they cut the wood small enough for firewood), and they pruned a few other trees including a dogwood out front. All of the work was done as requested and the guys were friendly and cleaned up everything. Other than a bit of sawdust, you'd never know they were there (well that and the fact that the trees look great!). I am definitely keeping their number handy for the next time we need some pruning/removal done from our wooded property. OH! I've used Jason several times now on different properties and I cannot say enough great things about him and his crews. These days it's hard to find a tried and true "craftsman" but "the Squirrel" is a tried and true professional. The work he's done for us has been highly technical and quite massive. Tall trees 5 feet from buildings, houses, roads, lines, neighbors....you name it. They are absolutely amazing with their precision, quality, and personality. Within a few days he came out to the site and gave me a detailed statement of work with a very competitive quote. His crew was timely and competent. It was pretty impressive watching them climb, drop the limbs, and then direct the tree's landing. I have several large white pines (65+ feet) and some trimming on a white oak. I don't know about you but it always seems to be a hassle finding contractors to work on different aspects of our home. Not with ASC! Thanks to rave reviews on Angie's List, we found a few places and contacted about five different companies for estimates. Unlike some of the other companies we reached out to, ASC was prompt, responsive, and professional. Within a few days of our phone call, Steve came to assess the scope of the project and came back the following week to complete the project with Jason and a crew of two other men. We felt very confident in using this company as Steve explained his intended work in layman's terms and answered all of our questions upfront. He was pleasant to talk to as well, with a great sense of humor and pulse on the industry. (He was able to predict what others had probably quoted for the removal of the tree for instance.) Despite his unique knowledge of trees, we never felt talked down to. Unlike some of the other companies we contacted, Jason responded right away and his company/Steve was able to give a quote and complete the project within a reasonable time frame. Jason was easy to get in touch with via email and their rate was quite competitive. Also they listened to our desire to maintain the tree while other companies preferred to remove the tree. ASC Tree Service removed broken large branches from a tree in our backyard that had been damaged by a recent microburst. They also selectively pruned the tree to preserve the integrity of the tree. On the day of the project, they arrived early and completed the job in a matter of hours. They cleaned up so well you would never know they were there in the first place. They even graciously removed some yard debris we had left over from pruning a bush on our own. Jason honored the 5% off offer via Angie's List and genuinely seemed appreciative of our business. Just today I had ASC do some tree work at my recently purchased home. I was absolutely blown away by their quality of work. Jason and his team were meticulous as they removed heavy limbs around power lines and over my roof, along with other areas of the yard. So they call him "the squirrel". Jason has tremendous technical knowledge and skill. He was able to guide down a very large tree (100 ft+) with a very full canopy. Our tree which was not accessible via crane. The take down was over three high-end properties, where there was NO room at all for error. And they did a perfect job!! Jason and his crew did a great job removing a dead tree from a very tricky spot in our yard. Jason and his very competent crew arrived Monday morning when expected to remove a large fallen white pine, and to take down an oak damaged by that fall. With a little encouragement from us, he offered us a great deal on removing a number of smaller dead or dying trees and one larger tree on the property as well. He did stump grinding on the larger trees he took down - you can't even tell where they were. He did note that one shouldn't plant a new tree within 5 feet of where a former tree was located, advice I very much appreciated hearing. He removed some other large tree limbs we hadn't even discussed, for free. His cleanup job was terrific. The total job took a little over 2 days, including some bonus work he did for neighbors. His equipment was in great shape and did the job. Tom was very impressive as the tree climber. Jason is a great communicator; text is his favorite way to do that. He aims to please. The company removed one very large tree and a smaller one and a large limb. First Jason returned my call immediately and was out to look at the job a few days later. He gave me a very professional estimate. He was flexible to fit my schedule. On the work day he arrived at the time he said he would. Jason's did an excellent job In that there was not much room he removed the tress in an exact precision manner that left our property untouched especially in that there was little room for errors.
