The place was busy with locals & tourists. The parking lot was full. We sat at a high top table and was asked for our drink order right away. The server was a little slower, but she was also taking care of the dining area to the right so it kept her running around. The food came out quick and was pretty good. The "large stack" for biscuits and gravy is really large and my husband was not able to finish it. I loved the thick and yummy bacon, but my 1/2 French toast order was a little hard to cut, even with a knife. If you want to fuel up early before your outdoor adventures, stop by since they're open the earliest in the area. It was even recommended by the owner of the Lavender Farm. #supportlocal read more

The service was friendly and quick and the FOOD, oh my goodness, I'll be dreaming about my eggs Benedict for months to come! The hash browns were perfectly crispy (I always order them well done), English muffin was dense, fresh and delicious, and all in all, I was one happy 9 month preggo mama after leaving this delightful spot! I'm guessing there is no shortage of butter in this dish but honestly, it was everything that I needed and more. SO MUCH COMFORT. My husband built his own veggie omelet and loved it as well. He also got a homemade biscuit on the side with butter and honey and it was DREAMY! We will absolutely be back the next time we overnight in or near Pine. This place was a big disappointment for me. The main turn off was the service, they have poor customer service here. Servers seemed unhappy when the place gets busy. The person who served us sounded robotic taking our orders, doesn't even smile, we felt like we're a burden coming here. Their food is okay, nothing special, just a typical breakfast place in a small town. Too bad my husband liked their cinnamon roll, but I will not be coming back to this restaurant because of their service. This place was busy when we got there. We decided to visit the adorable city of Pine for the day and not only is it a quick drive from Mesa but a very beautiful community. We got hungry and since everything was closed this was only 1 of 2 places to eat in town. I ordered a mushroom and Swiss cheese burger and seasoned French Fries. My meat patty was super dry similar to beef jerky I'm not sure what happened? But it was super hard to swallow. Now the French fries were really good not overly fried or salted. My boyfriend ordered a French Toast breakfast with scrambled eggs and bacon. The French toast was really delicious warm, buttery and sweet with delicious maple syrup. We love this place! It is homey and it is cozy. From banter with the regulars to kindness and quick service for visitors they take that moment to serve with a personal touch that is uniquely them. The food is great; I am a sucker for cafe comfort food. On a side note, my adult daughter is ASD and particularly extra. Nice quaint little place...seems as though pretty much everyone in there but us knew each other, which is kind of charming in its own way. The food was OK, but nothing special & they even had gluten free toast. Not sure why most places that offer GF toast do not give butter...so this was not the first time we received GF toast that was dry! During our stay in little town Pine, Arizona we found this cozy breakfast joint. Home cozy feeling with great customer service, no wait. Their waitresses were very attentive. Cooks and kitchen looked like family owned business. They say if the cook is skinny the food dont taste great like a chubby cook behind the grill. Well the food was delicious and the pancakes were amazing, fluffy, warm, with the right butter - whipped! best pancakes ever taste. Country fried steak was bathed with warm country gravy that hit the spot during this early Christmas eve morning. Eggs were farm fresh both scrambled and over easy. Service was a little slow and they seem to be a little under staffed, but believe this place is worth it. For The Mrs. Biscuits & Gravy ( short biscuit stack) home fries & a slice of cantaloupe. I chose the Pancake combo. Eggs anyway you want them, with a side of bacon and watermelon. Prices are dirt cheap here. Believe our meal cost a tad over $20 for food and coffee. The day trip was always about just making it to Pine to get out of the city and sit awhile in what I consider, idyllic peace and tranquility. Did that, and found something to make it even better; breakfast burritos at the Early Bird café. We have (as I'm sure everyone has), another restaurant against which all other breakfast burritos are measured. Over the years many places have fallen short for whatever reason; not even this or that, poor salsa etc etc. Put simply, the Early Bird kitchen makes a burrito to match our favorite ever. Outstanding. Slightly crispened tortilla, perfect egg and hash browns, juicy sausage and....amazing salsa. I was literally disappointed I ran out of the stuff. Upon finishing, I said to my wife, for once, I want to rewind the last 10 minutes and eat it all over again. It was that spectacular. My compliments to the chef! Look - The food was great. The waitress was nice and helpful. My coffee was always full. The owner and manager Shannon were rude and inconsiderate. When I came in I explained that I work remotely and I asked for a seat with a plug. I explained I would be there until 4pm. No one had an issue with this when I arrived - I was shown to a table. 3.25 hours later - The manager Shannon said the owner was mad that I was using electricity for "so long" and asked me to unplug my devices. I have a solar battery pack that I use in my van and it consumes 550 watts. I was there for 3.25 hours when I was asked to stop using electricity. That is less than 2KWH which is $0.28 at APS's highest rates. My battery pack had died the night before and I rely on it to power my van, my 5G router, and my laptop / devices so I can work remotely. I left a tip for the waitress. And I left $0.30 extra for the owner when I paid the bill. In short - This was a significant interruption in my work day and I will not be back. I'm such a fan of old school diners. The Early Bird Cafe is located in beautiful Pine right off Hwy 87. I came here early on a snowy day for breakfast. It was nice they had the heat on as the snow was coming down pretty good outside. I ordered the Big Bird Breakfast and was surprised how large it was. The pancakes are huge! I ended up taking most of it back to my hotel. Their prices here are just right for the amount of food you get. Early Bird Cafe serves both breakfast and lunch and breakfast is served all day. My in laws have a cabin in pine about 3 minutes from here so it was the closest and most convenient breakfast I could come by. Im assuming it's been here for a long time, as most places here have been. I'll start positively by saying the food is actually great. I came with my wife and some of my family. We all got waffles,pancakes, coffee and the usual breakfast sides like bacon, eggs, and hash browns. My little cousin got the Mickey Mouse pancakes, cool that they cater to children. Other than that I would say that the staff wasn't fond of our ethnic crowd, that's the vibe I got. And we got a lot of looks from other customers dining around us that gave the same perception. I understand that the town itself isn't filled with people of color but I would think that they've seen other humans besides the locals. The whole vibe of the place felt like the 1950's South, and I'm only old enough to have read about it. Waitress taking orders was really rude. Interrupts you before you can complete the order. Hurries you thru. I gave it 2 stars for the food alone. The food is as good as an American breakfast can get read more

Every time we drive by, the parking lot is packed. Now we know why. The food is awesome! We came in for a late lunch after a day of thrift store hunting and this really hit the spot. I had 3 kids with me - 7, 11, and 13. My 2 youngest both ate off of the kids' menu - Kraft mac and cheese and a cheeseburger with fries (their fries are fantastic). My older son had a bacon cheese burger with fries and I had a bacon bleu burger with onion rings. The kids ate everything and so did I. It was just darn good food. The waitress even put together to go cups of our drinks (without request or reminders of what we were drinking) for us to take with us. Clean, good food, reasonable prices, and locally owned. And top that off with supporting our local firefighters. Can't ask for much more than that. Highly recommend. We will be back. read more

Where to begin very friendly atmosphere the kind of atmosphere that makes you feel very welcome. Kind of like being at your grandparents house very friendly staff. The food was fantastic. It was a good old-fashioned cooking and may I mention the baked goods I ordered a cinnamon roll to start us off. It was amazing homemade very fresh. I literally feel like they made those the morning. They opened off the cinnamon roll. Very nice menu selections for every food preference you can think of for breakfast. I will definitely be back the next time we are in Pine. This restaurant is the definition of small town diner. Large portions, family friendly atmosphere, good food, and fast service. I walked in and was told sit anywhere someone will help you. In seconds I was asked hot coffee and or juice. I ordered a coffee and watter. A few minutes later I ordered eggs benedict, potatoes, and a blueberry pancake. The portions where huge and there was enough food to take home for leftovers. The total meal was under 20$ and I never know who my waitress was but my water was never empty and my coffee was always full and hot. The restaurant was packed and I was still taken care of very well byall the staff. If you make it out this way I would highly recommend stopping at this restaurant for some good home-cooked meals. read more

If you have ever been up north to pine/strawberry you know there isn't much to choose from! This little home cooking spot was fantastic! The breakfast was hot and fresh! Service was great, fast, and clean! Where there is not much to choose from you really want it to be good!! Bacon was crispy, toast was hot and buttery. My husband and I stopped at the Early Bird Café this morning for breakfast. This review is being written by way of letting people know what we inadvertently found out. The waitress came over to take our order and we told her we wanted the sausage, egg and cheese sandwich on sourdough toast...it came with home fries. We also ordered 2 coffees. I let the waitress know upfront that we would be splitting the sandwich so we would need two plates. When the meal came, the sandwich was greasy but no matter...I divided the sandwich and home fries onto the second plate that was placed under our order. (Please note that I did the work to divide our meal.) When the bill came we noted a $2 extra charge on our bill. When I questioned this at the front desk I was told that there is a $2 charge for split meals and that this information is stated right on the menu. My outrage at this is twofold. First, it would have taken our waitress approximately two seconds to let us know of this charge. Secondly, the meal was not split in the kitchen. The sandwich was merely cut in half, the home fries were lumped on the plate, and the second plate was placed underneath our meal. As I said before, I was the one that did all the work to split the meal. Upon checkout I questioned what I was paying the two dollars for. The girl at the checkout just kept repeating that there was a two dollar charge for split meals. In any other restaurant we've been in, when there is a charge for a split meal, the meal is split in the kitchen and brought out completely divided on two separate plates. This is a total rip-off. We paid two dollars for some kitchen person to cut our sandwich in half...which they would have done anyway! We will not be going back to this restaurant. And this review is by way of warning to those that want a split meal at the Early Bird Cafe...don't bother...you're going to get cheated. read more
