I love this store - hardware and post office combined! They have a very large selection of everything that a hardware store is supposed to. In the rare event they don't have it, I just slip over to Home Depot or Lowes. Screen doors/windows repaired, saws sharpened. Friendly, helpful personnel. The staff at Earl's is very helpful and insightful as to your shopping needs and inquiries in general. However, the young lady at checkout needs some serious attitude adjustments ass well as sessions in being curtious the their clientele. I'd like to say it may have been a one time fluck or off day on her part but it isn't. I've been there 4 times these last 3 three weeks and received the same lack of courtesy by the same young lady at checkout. Aside from the checkout process the store is well stocked, clean, organized, helpful staff and having a Post Office makes life easier for errands. The hardware never has anything you need. I end up trekking to Lowe's anyway. I don't even waste my time on small, easy items like screws, etc; their selection of products is weak. Business hours are not reflected accurately online. 7pm seemed early but now their hours end at 6pm. So if you have a normal job, you can't shop here except on Saturday. Earls is much more convenient than driving to one of the big box places. They have hard to find items but be prepares to pay for them. For the most part staff is helpful, the exception being the young blond check out clerk she is rude. She doesn't even say hello. Talks to her coworkers while ringing us up. As a male past 70, I've been a customer of Earl's from the grocery store days (1960s) to the hardware days. As no hardware store has it all, I have to go to the big box stores as well. When I go to Home Depot or Lowes, finding assistance can be a challenge. And their level of expertise is often limited. To an accountant, Earls has too many employees. To a patron, they have enough people who are friendly, knowledgeable and not afraid to ask one of their fellow workers if they don't know the answer. And for people who work with their hands and need the proper hardware to complete their projects, their screws/nuts/bolts/and an hundred other bits of hardware section is amazingly comprehensive. Plus they have people there who can help you find what you need in short order. I like to use stainless steel when possible and they have lots of that!! Give them a try and you'll see why Earls is a home town little jewel where you feel like you're wanted! read more

Friendliness, ease, and simplicity. The workers understand what the customer is looking for, and I've never been there once when an employee hasn't asked me if I need any assistance. I'd gladly pay 50 cents more for a bag of mulch than to go to one of the box stores. I really like this place. Plus, a post office! read more

I try very hard to support our local businesses, and Earl's is one of them. Just be careful about buying anything that is complicated and might need repairs, because they have had my roto-tiller for over three weeks, and now tell me that the part they need to fix it won't be available until the end of the month. They claim that I just brought it in 10 days ago, but I got a call 19 days ago telling me that they would get the part last week. Buyer beware. read more

This review reflects my experience with an employee at the in-store post office. Let me preface that I believe there is value in any work that one does, and customer service is one of the hardest, having to deal with all kinds and sorts of the general public. I empathize with people who do these jobs and what they have to deal with on a daily basis because I used to do this kind of work back in my day. However, when an employee goes out of their way to dump their bitterness on customers that's where the sympathy ends. Today was my second encounter with this little faux-blonde, bespectacled, middle-aged female behind the counter. I asked a couple questions about shipping a package and her response and demeanor was so belittling and sarcastic I was stunned. Just answer the questions, lady. Customers ask all kinds of "stupid" questions, but you answer them anyway because it's your JOB. There's no need to speak like I'm 3 and blink your eyelashes to emphasize your point. I'm hardly surprised when a teen or 20-something acts this way, but an older woman who should have some maturity, experience and patience with others, it's sad and pathetic. Perhaps it's time to quit if you continue to feel that way about people on the other side of the counter. I'll be going to another PO station in the future. No one needs to deal with that. read more

This is for Senior Chief B......Earl's is a small mom and pop business. Yes their prices are more than you major chain stores, even though it's True Value. But at least they are still in business. I don't care for their prices either but I don't go to Wallyworld unless I'm dragged in kicking and screaming. And why would I go to Lowe's and fight all that traffic if Earl's is just 5 miles from home? You go Earl's!! read more

I prefer to patronize local business, such as this small local hardware store, instead of supporting Lowe's or Home Depot, of whom both have much better selection and lower prices. I have spent quite a bit at this store over the past few years, including a lawn mower that I could have gotten cheaper at a big box store. Today, I was practically accused of shoplifting after I bought two basil plants there by an Earl's employee in the parking lot, with NO APOLOGY after I produced my receipt. I will now drive further across town for a better selection and cheaper prices at Lowe's and Home Depot. read more

Unlike the gentleman who rated Earl's a "1" because rock salt costs more there than at Lowes, I understand that this is a local business that cannot compete on price with huge box stores like Lowes, or Walmart.. But my guess is the gentleman lives close by, so he did not have to drive in all that snow to Lowes, just a short trip to Earl's. What is that worth? To me, to miss the Falmouth light, a few dollars. You can roam around for 10 minutes trying to get help in Lowes, or Home Depot. Sometimes you can NEVER get help. Or you get help from someone who works in flooring and knows nothing about electrical. You walk in Earls and the cashiers say hi, the employees ask if you need anything, they take you to where what you want is, they answer questions about stuff, make suggestions, keep you from buying stuff you don't need or that will not work for what you intend. They know the store and the products, and they actively try to be helpful. I needed a new weed trimmer a couple of weeks ago, so was going to replace it with the same thing I had. Michael was helping me and advised to go with a straight shaft model instead of a curved one like my old one that I had with me, because I am pretty tall. To show me why he made the recommendation he went and got a ladder, pulled two trimmers down, one straight and one curved, and had me simulate using them. I had to bend at almost a 45 degree angle with the curved, which I have always hated because it kills my back. I bought the straight shaft model. Do you think anyone at Lowes would have done that? Yes, prices can be a bit higher than the big box places. But they are right there, in the neighborhood, they are helpful and they are friendly. That is worth a lot, at least to me. Not all that jazzed about the new "improvements", removing the rental center, which I used often, but this is a great place to get what you need from people who are actually glad to see you in their store. And if they don't have what you need they will either order it for you or tell you who locally has it. To me it just isn't a weekend without a trip or 3 to Earl's. Just ask my wife...... read more

A far better shopping experience than the big box stores. There is less traffic to get there, less congestion in the parking area, a wider selection of hardware items, knowledgeable and friendly staff, and competitive, but not cheap, pricing. read more

Will never do business here again. Was told by long time employee Vito that I could return my purchase and get my money back "no problem" if the item was returned unused and sealed in original box. He told me this twice. Of course when I attempted to return the item (3 days later) this was not the case at all. Store manager Kari at first refused to refund my money. She was much more concerned about being able to return the item to her supplier than making sure my experience at her store was a good one. Whatever happened to good old "customer satisfaction". She informed me the next day, after getting permission from her supplier, that an exception would be made and eventually refunded my money minus a 5% "restocking" fee. I have never had so much grief and stress over a return in my life. I'll do my business elsewhere, thank you, like Home Depot or Lowe's where my satisfaction has always been a priority. read more
