Wagyu Beef Oshi Press
Joc V.

Earls was our first dinner upon our arrival to Victoria. After we checked in to our hotel, we walked around and set our sights on several pubs, some Asian places but couldn't quite decide. Then we saw the menu and 'yuzu calamari' jumped out at us and we were done looking. I would eat a leather belt if it were doused with yuzu. The wait was minimal at 530 pm and we were happy to still have the option to order from the happy hour menu. Solid food, decent prices and great service! We ordered 2 of their sushi presses--wagyu beef and aburi salmon--6 oz steak frites, poke bowl and the aforementioned yuzu calamari and all dishes were fantastic. I had a cocktail, the Tequila Espresso Martini, which I was worried about at first because that's a lot to put on a drink! But it was delicious and went down smoothly and easily, like the rest of that meal.

What an amazing experience my husband and I had at this Earl's location. We made an Open Table reservation just to be on the safe side. We were seated at an elevated booth within 5-8 minutes of our arrival. Our server was helpful and attentive. The food was amazing! Clean dining area. Clean washrooms. Perfect noise level for conversations. There were multiple hockey games on by the bar and we didn't mind at all. Everything from my steak to my salad to my frites were delicious.

Stopped in for a quick drink with friends and while the bartenders were great, the hostess crew couldn't be bothered to smile or be welcoming in any way. Not even a polite hi or bye. Good thing the bartenders made up for it! Didn't get any food myself, but my friends got the wings and ribs and enjoyed every bite. The place is very cute and trendy and if I am ever back in Victoria, I will keep this location in mind for food and drinks.

We stopped here because tennis was showing on the TVs in the bar area, which was a nice surprise and hard to find. We stayed a long time because of the food was delicious (we barely made happy hour) and drinks were great. We had a margherita pizza, the tofu and sushi tacos (sesame rice paper for the "taco" were great!). The tofu taco was soooooo delicious! The beer and wine selection were good. The kitchen adjusted to my weird allergies, which is greatly appreciated!!! The service was excellent! I wish I was in town longer to return again this trip!

Excellent taste in food, service is great. Happy hour has very good options for you. Ambiance is elegant, the tables are nice and the bar looks great if you're looking just to enjoy with a drink.

Server(s): Jack and Brandon Walked in and were seated immediately! Who doesn't love that? It is my wife's birthday eve and we decided to take the first available cruise from the USA to Victoria, Canada. My friends, just as usual we were not disappointed. 50% off all wines we drank not 1 but 2 bottles of the good old "Murphy Goode" Cabernet Sauvignon. Amazing bottle to have with a Ribeye Truffle Butter Steak! Well now that the big secret is out I would like to reassure this place is the next happening restaurant in the area. I know people coming to Canada might hear the title Cactus often. But This is a step forward in the hospitality Industry. Great food, we went with the following and will pretty much recommend you all to try this mix: Ribeye + Truffle Butter steak (Medium is recommended by the chef and if you like it medium rare I would recommend medium). Truffle tortellini with Cajun chicken is a unique but admirable combination. It was a delicious combination if you are up for an adventure. Drinks you all already know we went with the Goode Wine : Murphy Goode California Cabernet Sauvignon. Best mix for the steak and pasta! Overall the food was just amazing, but the service was exceptional. Jack and Brandon really took care of us and made sure my wife and I were well take care of. The restaurant are lucky to have such devoted employees. Thank you all for making our night special! Cheers and hope you all find this review helpful! If you do please like and spread the word!

Great food! Fair pricing and awesome service at this Victoria Earls location. We were able to order the salads and add the 3oz sirloin steaks to add some protein for our dinner. After a long and fun day walking in Victoria, this meal was Very satisfying!

Princess Diana

We had an incredible experience at Earls on our last night in Victoria. John was our server and he was amazing! He suggested the Princess Diana cocktail when I shared that I love Empress gin. It was the best gin cocktail I had the entire trip! Although not on the menu, I strongly recommend you order it if you like gin cocktails. Food was also superb - spinach dip shareable, tortellini, steak - just a few of the dishes we ate. And our amazing server ended our night with the Mountain Shaft cocktail. It was absolutely delicious! Service was outstanding and so was the food and drinks. Highly recommend!!

The atmosphere was great, and the food was displayed beautifully. When we arrived, we were seated right away without reservation.

Jumbo crab cakes with fennel and greens and a sauce.

When you walk into this place the music is sonloud that it makes you want to leave. If they would just turn down the music so people could talk and not have to yell it would make the place so much better. The food was very good. I had the jumbo crab cakes. They were delicious. The dessert was good but not great. The service was very good. Waitress was friendly, professional, and prompt.

I've always wanted to try Earls but just never got to it until I was in Victoria, and I definitely wish I had it earlier! I tried their steak and sushi and it was really good! The portion size was just right for me. The cost was definitely on the expensive side but I think it's worth it. They always seem to be busy though so I would recommend making reservations or coming earlier.

Ambiance was great - super warm and welcoming which was magnified by the host. Super lovely. Then the wait staff. Whoever is hiring/training is doing a great job! Not drinking right now but the cocktail menu was super tempting. Every menu item sounded great. We got some help on ordering from our servers and Tanya picked ones she had enjoyed before. We also sat right beside the pick up window so it was fun seeing food come out! The food was fantastic. See pictures for what we ordered. We are big fans of traditional fare, but the Block is a place we are so glad we experienced and will certainly return utilizing the knowledge we garnered during our first experience. A big thank you to for helping us through picking one price fixe January exploration of your local restaurants and filling it with other ala carte additions. As we often do we ordered far too much food, wanting to explore everything off a menu that is far reaching. Not sure if our additions worked with the price fixe menu, but we sure enjoyed checking everything out. The interior is interesting with the addition of structural steel in the space to keep this heritage building (I think) standing tall for a few generations. We sure hope it's still here for a long while and will most likely come again the next time we are in Victoria. That is saying a lot as there are a wide range of restaurants in the neighbourhood, but you do want to check the Block out!

The salmon main was absolutely delicious. The salmon roe added a texture were your mouthful just popped. The duck main was cooked perfectly. Did not taste gamey. The black rice or risotto in this dish was very tasty. The dessert of Panna cotta was delicious and had a citrus finish. The dessert feature of rhubarb cake was just meh. The white frosting had no taste and was thick on the cake. You finish out the meal with some jellies and some caramel Service was good but here is the reason for the low rating.... The main of the flat iron with arugala on the top with fries. They plated it and served it with a slug in it. The slug fell from inside the salad onto the plate . A baby slug. But it was living and moving. What followed was poor response and gaslighting of which this restaurant should be ashamed. In order not to disgust the others I stopped a woman that was working the floor to remove the plate. When I pointed to the slug why gave a small chuckle and half smile and stated, "well, it is farm to table." That is gaslighting. Right there that was a poor response. I see signs saying Michelin on this restaurant, but really...if you had served a slug to a someone rating you for a Michelin, you think you would get that rating? Highly doubtful. That should never have been served. Yes the restaurant cooked another meal which took longer. They cooked it just fine too....however their lackluster and empty words of well we do say it's farm to table doesn't replace an apology or an assurance of we will do better.

The atmosphere was alright with dimmer lighting than other similar places which was nice for the mood, and the place was surprisingly louder than expected for the little people that were there. The waitress we had was friendly and nice, but also came by frequently to ask if we were done looking at the menu, with our food, wanting the bill. It felt very rushed despite there not being many other customers in the area. We were only in the restaurant for about 45 minutes today. The food was mediocre. I had the fried chicken and waffles, which looked good but tasted generic. The fried chicken was a bit dry and just tasted like it was seasoned with salt and pepper and that's about it. The waffle tasted like something anyone could make at home. My friend had the Caesar salad, which was drenched in sauce but otherwise looked alright. Overall, the food is on the pricier side, relative to the portion size being served. Expect to spend at least $30 to be full, not including drinks and dessert.
