Dishonest Pricing & No Service for $89 "Diagnostic" Date of Experience: October 12, 2025 Service Requested: Electrical Diagnostic I am writing this negative review due to misleading pricing and a complete lack of service from Eanes Heating Cooling Plumbing and Electrical. I called on 10/8/25, requesting an electrical diagnostic on my washer/dryer outlet to verify the voltage for the LG manufacturer. I was quoted the price of $89 for the diagnostic--a price confirmed twice. The technician, "Chris," arrived on 10/12/25 (after a reschedule). Without touching or testing anything, he immediately demanded an additional $200 fee, claiming the initial $89 only covered his trip and not the actual diagnostic--a clear bait-and-switch. I requested he at least document the outlet's wattage on the receipt so I could relay the information to LG, but he failed to do so. I called customer support and was transferred to "Kayla" in dispatch, who confirmed the potential for a $200 detailed diagnostic fee but could not logically explain how it was determined without the technician inspecting the unit. When I questioned this, she became unhelpful, displayed an attitude, and simply stated she could call the technician and cancel the job. He was already on site. So I call for my unit into be service, the unit was cooling and working fine. just wanted it cleaned. Now it doesn't work, I was told there was a leak, that they never found and some other part is going out. Been without air for 4 days now, at least it's cool outside. I emailed the company ant no response back. I guess thats a great business model, ( while your out there break something so they have to buy a new unit. Tonight, Friday January 3, 2024 at 8:30pm we called Eanes to report that we arrived home to find that our house was cold and the heating system had a red light blinking and the thermostat was not working. The representative said she was submitting a work order for 8:00 - 12:00pm the next morning. I told her it was cold an projected to get colder and we needed emergency service tonight. She advised us to agree to the service call but that she would call a manager who could authorize an expedited emergency service call. She said he would call us within 2 hours. Of course, he never did. Finally, at 11:14pm I called again to inquire why no one had called or been out to service our unit. The new representative (Areatha) did not see any indication that a manager had been contacted and when she tried to contact someone, surprise, their was no answer! I could only think back to all the promises we were given when we bought our heating unit and our service contracts. The promises that now, when the temperature was 26 degrees (feels like 14 degrees) no one at Eanes sitting in their nice warm cozy homes could remember! We chose Eanes to do a new system install because they seemed knowledgeable and affordable. At the time they have a '1 day install or free' promotion, and even put a sign in our yard to advertise it (reference picture). The tech's arrived for our install and shortly realized Eanes had ordered the wrong parts so they would be unable to finish the install. They spent two days attempting to get our cooling system up and running despite not having all the parts they needed. When they left on day two the cooling was working and they said they would be in touch about finishing once they received the new parts. Just a couple hours after they left the cooling system failed and was blowing hot air out of our vents so we had to turn the system off and call them out. They arrived the next day late afternoon without notice, and got the cooling up and running again. A few days later we received a call and they came out to finish the install, this was now 7 days after the original install was scheduled (and a total 4 days I had to take off work to be present at the house). Since then we tried to get in touch with management to see if they would acknowledge our complaints and honor their promotion but we kept getting passed from one person to another, and left many messages to no avail. Now, 6 or so weeks later our air-conditioning stopped working once again. It has taken them three visits to get it up and running (there was leak due to an install error). We finally got to talk to management but they were rude, disrespectful and refused to acknowledge their promotion or any wrong doing. With this said I do want to say we have probably had 10 or so different technicians come to our house and they all have been hardworking and polite. Its just a shame the management is so poor. I had an issue with my thermostat not connecting to the smart hub. Technician was dispatched to my house. After diagnosing fairly quickly. the technician deemed the thermostat was bad and tried getting me to sign for a $1500 thermostat install without hesitation. An install he wasn't familiar with and would need to watch someone else install it. He didn't give me a choice or other recommendation until I started questioning him. He was very rude with his responses. It was a very unpleasant experience for me. I got a 2nd company to come out the next day and they fixed my issue in under 30 minutes by cleaning the drain pipe for less than $350. read more

This was once a good company with reliable service. They have been taken over by a big corporation and now I would not recommend them to anyone. Their service staff are courteous and professional. That is not the issue. I hope the competition I choose next time will hire these people. The scheduling is completely unreliable. They will give you an appointment time and then cancel during the appointment window or after it has passed! Recently there was an issue with my NEW HVAC system. The first time I needed heat the system produced none. The one day installation of this system took four days until it eventually passed inspection. The technician who came out made it work but said someone else would have to come and finish. I called several times trying to resolve what was a safety issue. Either the promised "immediate" call back never happened or I was left on hold for 20 minutes. It took a month and two more days of my time to complete the needed fix. I'm done. read more

I was told by the Eanes team that my control board and furnace had failed and needed a replacement. I got not confirmation of time or date of the arrival except the day we had the salesmen comeout. The team arrived at 7:30am on the agreed upon day. About 4 hours later they said there was an issue with the thermostat, it was shorting the new control board - which is exactly the issue we had initially with the old control-board and furnace. They said they needed to rewire the thermostat to a new location because there was a short on the circuit and they couldn't figure out what it was. After drilling a hole into my wall and installing the new thermostat at another location - the short error continued to happen. At 1:30pm they left and said - they had done everything they could and they put in a request to have another technician come out. The other technician arrived later that day - spent another 5 hours and couldn't figure out what the short circuit was coming from and called yet another technician. At 7pm the third technician showed up only to find out that the short circuit was a misplaced connector on my outside unit and that neither the furnace, or the control board or the thermostat or the need to drill a hole into my wall was the issue. Almost $6000 later I have a massive hole in the wall of my hallway that was unecessary, a new furnace - that was unecessary and a new control board - which according to your own technician could also have been unecessary to start with, and a new thermostat which was also unecessary. I'm very unhappy, extremely frustrated and disappointed with how we were treated as "one more sale" for your monthly goal and there was very little to no transparency in that process. I also received a credit card? from Synchrony Bank which was not mentioned at all during the contracting part when we were mistakenly convinced that we needed a new control board and furnace and now I have to spend more time to go try to sort this mess out and figure out what it all means because nothing - much like the furnace situation - was explained to me or my wife. We reach out to you - expecting you to be experts and help us throughout the process - mainly because we don't understand refrigeration but that's the opposite of what we got here. We will not be recommending Eanes any time soon and we truly hope we don't have to ever rely on your services - at least not with what our experience was over the last week or so. Now - I have to go find someone to fix the hole on my hallway, call this new credit card that showed up at my door to figure out what that's all about and handle the mess of what just happened - oh and pay the bill - which, again, was unecessary. We had a service contract with Eanes for ten years. Possibly, they sold out to another company. Not sure. Service and reliability that used to be there is non-existent. We scheduled our spring 2022 service on four separate occasions. The first three scheduled visits, Eanes cancelled the day of the appointment to reschedule with excuses such as the truck broke down, no service rep available. One the fourth visit, a rep did show up, turned off two out of three units and left while we were not home. Very disappointed. We had previously purchased two of the three HVAC units from Eanes. My mother had Eanes come out and service her unit. The heat Went out right afterward and needed another part replaced, charged her $577.80, called another HVAC and they fixed and only charged $123.00 for the service call and part. The service man showed where Eanes only cleaned the part and not fix it. Same thing happened with ours, Eanes said we were completely out of Freon and wanted to charge close to 1000.00 Used another HVAC had Freon filled and part fixed for less than half of what Eanes wanted. read more

The sales tactic was a deal-breaker. It made me very uncomfortable and tried my patience to the breaking point. I made it very clear up front what I needed, a HVAC replacement unit with any needed ductwork repairs and I will pay cash. The meandering, impertinent, stalling, sleazy, 90-minute presentation managed to talk me out of it, while I am sitting there getting heatstroke, physically ill, just wanting to get to the point. Then the grand finale: price. No one in their right mind would suggest an $18,000 unit (not including ductwork!) for a 1000sqft home and then stare me right in the eye like a predator. There are just no words. I am left with a very unfavorable impression of the trustworthiness of this business. I cannot remember the last time I left a Yelp review but the spirit moved me to warn others about this time-wasting, sketchy high-pressure-sales nonsense. They should truly rethink their strategy. Purchased a new system from Eanes for over $14,000 and it's still not working properly. We have a 3 level townhome and our 3rd floor will not cool off under 80 degrees. It's practically unbearable in our home after spending a arm and a leg for a new system. Months later we are still having headaches with this "brand new system". However they are so quick to try and schedule the city to come out to inspect the system however can't even assist me properly as a customer. I've had to call techs out the last 3 weeks and everyone is giving me the run around. First tech claims nothing is wrong, second tech claims it's the thermostats, now the 3rd tech is saying the install was done incorrectly. Eanes is a first class heating and air company with offices all over the Triad. We called them on a Friday night when our CO2 detectors went off signaling a problem. They had a knowledgeable technician out to the house in less than an hour. He diagnosed the problem, which was a burned out firebox. As our furnace was getting near the end of its useful life, it made more sense to replace it rather than replace the firebox. Eanes provided two quotes for a new system. After getting other quotes, we decided to go with another vendor who could install the same equipment for less money. As I said, for service you can't do better than Eanes, however, from my experience you will pay a premium for the service and equipment. read more

Getting through on the phone was a time vampire! Extensive hold times and call-backs that never happened. Once through, I was told that my prepaid maintenance call would be a month out. However, a more expensive service call was doable the next day. Thus, I was forced to pay an additional $89.00 "Dispatch Fee" AND another $20.00 Fuel Surcharge. In my view, the $20.00 Fuel Surcharge is shameless opportunistic profiteering. Fuel costs are already a part of the company's costs, so only the unusual increase in fuel prices might be applicable. The arithmetic on a $20 Fuel Surcharge for a van estimated to get 18 miles per gallon and regular fuel costing $4.60 per gallon amounts to 78.26 miles. If a technician can and probably does complete no less than 3 and perhaps as many as 6 calls per day, let's call it 4. Four times $20.00 is $80.00 in Fuel Surcharges collected in a day which would pay for over 313 miles of travel. The likelihood of a typical Eanes van traveling 313 miles a day in the Piedmont Triad is remote at best! That is why I describe Eanes' $20 Fuel Surcharge practice as exploitation of an already horrible economic condition. And again, Eanes or any other similar business would have already factored in core fuel costs. Thus, charging customers for the full cost of 313 miles of van travel is arguably abusive. I also view the $89.00 Dispatch Fee as a gouge. After all, I already paid for a now over-due maintenance call. The same technician would have addressed the situation (a failed capacitor) on that call, leaving me with the cost of the repair (minus the $89.00 Dispatch Fee). That brings us to the $310.00 to replace a motor starter capacitor. Eanes doesn't itemize parts and labor, but I am confident that the value of the capacitor is no more than $20.00. So, $290.00 in labor, an $89.00 Dispatch Fee and an $20.00 Fuel Surcharge brought my bill, after my $32.40 in Maintenance Member Savings to a whopping $448.87. Of course, the maintenance call delayed until next month will now be uneventful, apart for the $10 in filters that they'll pop in. That by the way is assuming that they actually have the common filters on the van--which is unusual. In fairness, the Eanes technician was polite and professional. Needless to say, I'm in the market for a new go-to HVAC service company. read more

I contacted Eanes to request a quote on a new unit after a technician damaged my heat pump. I wanted to choose a reliable company for the installation, but they said they would charge me $90 for the quote. I clarified that I only wanted a quote for a new installation, not a service call, but they insisted on the fee regardless of whether they got the job or not. read more

The techs are nice and knowledgeable, however at least twice a year something goes wrong with my 2018 Hvac system typically wiring issue that Eanes installed, it usually costs around $1000 to fix. I recommend going with another company or at the very least ask for labor costs to be included in your warranty read more

ALL POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS HEAD MY WARNING!! As someone who works in the HVAC supply business, these guys are out to rip you off!! My family members had an issue with their AC unit recently, and instead of contacting me first they called Eanes.(Big mistake) For a repair that should have roughly costed no more than $150, Eanes charged them $800. On top of that, they quoted replacing the compacitor and blower motor at around $2500! Compacitors are sold roughly for around $20 or so, and on average the blower motor typically ranges $150-$400 unless its a variable speed. Long story short, these guys were charging way above what they should, and taking advantage of people by doing unnecessary upselling. There are plenty of reputable companies out there, don't choose these guys! read more

Eanes techs have come to my house 4 times and have been very kind and respectful. The first time they diagnosed what the problem seemed to be, but needed to wait for the line to unthaw. Came the next day and needed to order a coil for my AC unit so they gave it a boost of refrigerant so I wouldn't roast, no charge. As soon the part was available it was promptly replaced. The fourth time was today, one of my rooms was not cooling. The problem was found and quickly taken care of, no charge. I really appreciate their professionalism. read more

Our AC went out in Aug 2021 and we called Eanes to get a quote. After agreeing to a $23k full replacement of both condensers, a furnace, and a heat pump, all of which I felt probably didn't need to be replaced, they started working about a week after the contract was signed. Install team included three guys, one tech, and two helpers that basically knew nothing about HVAC. When the tech cut his hand open and had to rush to urgent care, the two helpers continued the install. Well within 24 hours it shutdown, and so began the long and painful journey to get fixed right. After 4-6 visits by multiple techs, and two failed inspections, over a four month period, it continued to make excessive noise and didn't do a great job cooling the house. Now it's May 2022 (9 months later) and I've reached out to them several times to schedule a time when they can come back and fix the issues so we can pass inspection and close the permits...still waiting. The permits will expire in Aug and they will need to reopen the permits, only to fail the inspection again. No clue what to do at this point besides going to the licensing board. I will say that all the techs were really nice and where more than happy to talk through the issues with us. I would imagine most of them have left the company after it was bought out. The company is another story...mismanaged, incompetent, unresponsive, over priced, and extremely poor quality. read more

Don't believe their $49 tuneup prices. They come out and always find a problem and overcharge. Tech came out and tuned up running furnace and said I needed a new blower motor capacitor or would not make it through winter. A $15 capacitor cost me $300 for 5 minutes of his extra time spent installing it while already here for the tuneup. They get in the door with the $49 tuneup and recover that by overcharging for something else you probably never needed. read more

I spoke with the Comfort Consultant, Chris Westberry, about getting a Mini-Split and that portion went well, but communication broke down after that. It became increasingly hard to reach him via phone, I would leave messages with no return call. I then resorted to text messages which he responded to slightly better but still poor. This in itself, made multiple issues where I contacted him to let him know my availability to be home for an install and nothing was communicated so installers showed up to my house with no one there thus causing me to rush home in an attempt to get work that I wanted done. - The install took 2 days oppose to the 3-4 hours I was told about. The Installers stated that they were misinformed about what was needed and had to make some additional plans to complete the job. - After the install was done, the team removed my old heating unit from my Garage and I was told that someone else would have to come out and do that portion of the work. I am currently going 2-3 weeks after the install with no one contacting me about a repair. I tried to initiate a repair myself by calling the company to have someone come out, the gentleman did and stated that no one told him about what was needed so he did not bring anything that was required and I still have a hole in my garage wall. - I am generally on my fifth service call to get my mini-split fix because there is no heat coming out of it. One day I was told that a Technician would be at my area from 12-6. He showed up at 8:30PM at night and this was after multiple phone calls trying to reach the person who is in charge of dispatch, but who would never talk to me verbally. Of course the person that came out stated that he could not do anything because it was too dark to see so another service call would have to go in. I scheduled someone to come out there on Sunday and tried to avoid coming out because it was raining and wanted me to re-schedule for a sunny day. I stated that I cant and he proceeded to troubleshoot the system. He then said that a new board would have to be ordered to come in to repair my 3 week old system. I have not received any correspondence for such. - I originally asked for my system to come with a remote instead of a thermostat that would make my system smart. After talking with my wife, we decided we do want the thermostat. I have tried to communicate this to numerous telephone personnel and to the last technician and even asked that the last technician be given the unit to bring to my house so I can see it and pay for it out of pocket. Of course, nothing was brought out and explain to the technician in person what I wanted and he said that his supervisor would reach out to me about that the next day. That was Sunday, this is now Tuesday and no one has reached out to me other than from the survey where I expressed my concerns and mentioned that I would give a bad review. To this date, I have finally reached the Customer relations Manager after 5 times of leaving a message for her to call me. She has assured me that these things would now be taken care of....she has already failed to reach a timeline set by her to provide me a plan to fix these errors. read more

I received a picture of the technician with arrival time for the scheduled window of service. They actually ended up arriving way later due to an emergency, but they communicated that to me. Kudos do Charlie and Darlene and Pam for making things right for me. Got a bit of a discount on upcoming service and the feeling that people really DO care... and, that means everything. The field service people have been great to work with, and they have been prompt in scheduling service when we call in. They arrive on-time and have always done a good job, and don't leave a mess. We have upgraded two units this year and have been pleased with pricing and equipment provided. However getting back in touch with the right office staff to find out what is going on with orders, inspections, or answer questions about things they still need to complete for us has been way too difficult. you keep saying you are making changes but its time to show your customers. read more

I actually picked Eanes because of their 4.5 star rating and numerous reviews on Yelp... some of their competitors only had 1 or 2 reviews. I originally called their Greensboro office but was transferred to their Winston location. I believe they said there was one in High Point as well. I easily set up an appointment and was given a 2-hour window (2-4pm). I was glad the worker showed up around 2:30ish. The Eanes employee was friendly and efficient. He was able to figure out the problem and fix it in about 2 hours or less. We would definitely recommend this company! read more

As someone who has done business with Eanes for over 10 years, I can confidently state that Eanes does not respect its customers. Do business with them at your own peril. This was not always the case. It appears that the company ownership changed several years ago (company was purchased by a much larger corporate entity), and since that time, Eanes has been remarkably different. Specifically, if you have any issues regarding a service call or repair, your concerns will not be addressed. I have called and spoken with front line customer service reps over five times regarding an issue related to an A/C installation. I have asked to speak with the service manager, and each and every time, he is "unavailable." Remarkably, he also apparently has no voicemail or email. Of course this is untrue. So, in addition to being completely apathetic towards their customers, they are also dishonest. Ultimately, after being ignored five times by this evasive service manager, I explained my circumstances, and frustration, to a lower level customer service rep. This rep assured me that he would pass my concerns along to one of his superiors, who would call me back within 48 hours. Five days later, I've received no call back, no update, nothing.
