OH SO HOT MISO , SHRIMP BAO, Kimchi, Ramune Lychee
CeCee S.

Taking cover from rain and snow, I ducked into Moynihan Train Hall and headed straight for the food hall. The first spot that caught my eye was E.A.K. Ramen. I've had great experiences at their restaurant before, so I was a little skeptical the fast-casual version would live up to it--but I was wrong. You order at the counter, and the staff was super helpful in guiding me to the right choice. I went with the "Oh So Hot" miso ramen and fried shrimp bao. The bao was just okay, but the ramen was spot on--rich, flavorful broth, perfectly cooked noodles, and fresh ingredients. You can grab it to go or sit and enjoy it in the hall. Either way, it's worth a stop. I'll definitely be back.

Located in the Moynihan food hall, this Eak Ramen is easy to get, open holidays, and easy to take away. If you're looking for a quick stop, catching a train ride, or staying nearby, it's a good stop for a hot, tasty, filling ramen. The Eak Ramen is a tonkotsu style ramen with spinach, raw onions, and pork over soup noodles. The onions are honestly odd and we took them right out but the soup was good. It's oily but also hot, salty, and just the right hit of filling on cold days. The chicken karaage was pricy but was good and had big pieces of meat. Just be sure to open the top right away to let out the condensation and keep the chicken from going soggy.

Didn't know what to expect considering I was about to eat ramen before boarding a train but I was pleasantly surprised! I asked them which was the most popular, sorry I don't remember, and I got that one. I was so surprised with how good it was! The meat was very tender and flavorful, the noodles had lots of flavor. If I had to nit pick, I thought there could have been more broth but that also would have been hard to eat on the train. I will return!

Manhattan, NY (midtown west - Moynihan Train Hall) - Moynihan Food Hall is more gourmet than the fast food options you'll find in adjacent Penn Station, and EAK serves up a very decent bowl of ramen. Like practically all the good ramen joints, this one is an import from Japan, where EAK (Machida Shoten) is a chain purveyor of Yokohama-originated iekei style ramen which uses a blend of tonkotsu and chicken shoyu for its broth, with thick straight noodles that are cooked wonderfully al dente and are perfectly chewy. The broth is indeed very rich and flavorful, and I like to add a seasoned egg with beautifully creamy yolk to enhance the experience. I've tried a variety of flavors and liked them all so far. The Tokyo Chicken broth is full of umami goodness. Oh So Hot! Miso has a good spice level and comes with a side of chili oil. While I loved the flavored noodles and garlicky unctuousness of the Zebra Shio broth, I did find it a bit salty. There are also a couple of vegetarian options available. The portion is on the smaller side and is served in a cardboard bowl for to-go convenience, but fits the price point of $14-$17 which is pretty reasonable for a high-quality bowl of ramen in the city.

I was craving ramen and decided to try EAK Ramen in Moynihan Hall. For the price, though, you can definitely get larger portions at other ramen spots around the city. Since it's located inside the station, the ramen is served in a paper bowl, which was more like an oversized cup than a traditional ramen bowl. The flavor of the signature shoyu ramen is good overall, but the broth is overloaded with chopped onions, which end up overpowering the broth. The noodle-to-broth ratio is also off: there isn't enough broth for the amount of noodles, so it's easy to finish the soup and be left with a bowl full of noodles. If you're in a pinch and really craving ramen, it's an okay option, but if you have the time, there are far better ramen spots in the city worth seeking out.

It's a solid 2.5-3; the broth was not great... too fatty, it's not the same as richness. It's just overly greasy... making the broth not worth slurping. Order and wait for your food. Packaged well. Grab a seat at the food hall. The pork belly was not good, thinly sliced but way more fat than meat. Overall, if you're hungry and craving a hot bowl of ramen... walk 2 blocks to Ichiran. But if short on time, then this will do before your train ride.

I was skeptical about trying this place because I didn't have signal in the food court to read the reviews and there are so many options down there. But I'm glad I took a leap of faith bc this was a flavorful bowl of ramen with perfectly al dente noodles. The broth is on the thicker side which really stick to the noodles to give them a better flavor. The meat was tender as well. I got the mild spicy miso and could have easily gone to medium spicy. I would consider giving 5 stars if there were more toppings. It can get pretty crowded during lunchtime but we were able to find a seat.

Flavorful ramen broth, although a tad salty for me. With good al dente noodles. Raw onions give a different texture but not used to having them in ramen. In a big enough bowl but surprised when I saw the portion, which was small. Located in the Moynihan Hall food court. Seating available. Clean restrooms. Weak to no cell signal whenever I am there.

Was craving some ramen while waiting for my train, so I decided to pay E.A.K. Ramen a visit. Was definitely surprised by the results! The Food: I went with the "Oh So Hot Miso Ramen" since I needed something spicy. The ramen came out surprisingly delicious for being in a train station. The ramen broth was rich and flavorful, the noodles were cooked nicely, and the portion was pretty decent. For a fast casual place, the ramen was pretty good. A little pricey, but that's due to the area. The Service: Service was pretty fast. Staff here were friendly. The Atmosphere: Plenty of tables to sit at, since it' an open space. Overall, a 4/5. Definitely worth a try if you are craving some ramen.

I ordered the EAK Shoyu to go, the service was friendly enough, and my order was ready within a few minutes. It took me about 10 minutes to get it back to my desk, but the ramen was still warm. I'm not a fan of raw onion and was surprised to see how much was in the bowl, but since the broth was a little salty, I think the onion helped to temper it, the flavors blended together really well. I loved the texture of the noodles, the spinach, and the pork. The portion size was a little small, but overall I really enjoyed it.

During my trip to NYC EAK Ramen was one of the few places near my hotel that was open Christmas day. So, they get a couple stars just for being open and serving tourists like myself. The Oh So Hot Miso ramen was good. The chicken karaage was a large portion of deep fried chicken thighs. It wasn't great, the breading was soggy and oily, but was very filling.

Came here on a Sunday afternoon and ordered the E.A.K. signature ramen and the Tokyo chicken ramen. Both were delicious, the broth was spectacular. It was a bit on the salty side and the Tokyo chicken ramen did not have chicken. We had to go back and request them to add the chicken. The service was helpful and the space was clean. Grateful the ambiance allowed for several seating spaces. Overall, I'm impressed with this ramen especially considering it's at the train station. I would recommend. TLDR; flavorful ramen, with perfect broth. Would recommend their signature classic, the E.A.K. ramen.

I've been visiting the E.A.K. on 6th Ave. for quite a while, so I was excited to see this location open in Moynihan's food hall. Although the food hall area can be crowded, I have yet to be disappointed by the speed of the service at E.A.K. I tend to arrive here about fifteen minutes before my scheduled train, and that gives me plenty of time to order, pick up, and take the ramen for the ride. I love all of E.A.K.'s varieties of ramen, but in addition to that I love that they are one of the only ramen spots around not using plastic take-out containers. Their paper bowls are a smaller diameter, with nice, tall sides and are actually possible to eat out of relatively neatly on the go. I feel like someone must have put a decent amount of thought into this. I'd say the prices are on the high side of average for casual ramen dining, but quality of the food is excellent.

We started with the Mix Tartare, where the combination of tuna, salmon and yellowtail was fresh and flavorful, and the crispy wonton chips added the perfect crunch. The Truffle Kani Roll was a favorite -- creamy and flavorful with avocado, plenty of crab on top, and a subtle truffle flavor. It was a little different from the sushi rolls we usually order and definitely worth trying. We also had the shrimp katsu, which was perfectly crispy on the outside with big, juicy pieces of shrimp inside. The creamy dipping sauce paired really well with it. For ramen, we tried the Shoyu Ramen, which was warm and comforting with a flavorful broth, tender chashu, bamboo shoots, scallions and a soft-boiled egg. It was a nice addition to all the smaller dishes we shared. Overall, everything tasted fresh, was beautifully presented, and we really enjoyed being able to try a variety of dishes. Half of their menu is vegan-friendly. Spoiler alert: they will open a permanent location in June/July! *Chicken Karaage*** This chicken karaage was TO DIE FOR -- the caramelized sugar lemon on the side took it to a whole new level. The boneless chicken was so tender and juicy with a thin deep-fried batter. The meat was extremely refreshing after squeezing the lemon and dipping in honey mustard sauce. * Handrolls - Salmon Yuzu, Tuna, Yellowtail** Y'all need to order their handrolls! The sashimi piece was thick and long enough to cover the vinegar rice. It would be a pain to pick which handroll I like more. They layered up the flavors of each piece with house sauces, shiso leaf, fried leek, avocado etc. Wish they would add a handroll set in the future. *Pork Cutlet Curry The curry was a blend of shredded meat, mashed potatoes, tomatoes and grapes (yes grapes!). The pork loin cutlets were crispy and not heavily breaded. The meat was a bit dry, yet it was cut in thin slices so it didn't bother me much. I found the multigrain rice even more enjoyable than white rice with its crunchiness. *Matcha Crème Brûlée** WE LOVED THIS. Matcha flavor is strong. The caramelized top and creamy matcha custard complemented really well. Trust me, their crème brûlée is the best dessert to finish off your meal. *Vegan Matcha Cheesecake This cheesecake was homey and light. Matcha flavor was tasteable but not very strong. The raspberry compote added a nice touch to it. I liked the crunchy biscuit layer on the bottom. *Yuzu White Peach Sparkling *Virgin Green Tea Mojito Their Japanese-inspired mocktails were great and not too sweet (very rare for mocktails). The portion came with a decent amount of chicken which was shareable between three. Shoyu Ramen: Not a standout dish, but seeing as it's not specifically a ramen restaurant, it was standard! Not amazing but not bad. Pork Cutlet Curry: As someone who loves Japanese curry, this hit the spot! Warm flavorful curry with crispy tonkatsu. However, I think it would taste better served with fluffy white rice! Also I think it was served with a side of grapes which was seemed odd unless it's a new food trend I'm unaware of. Apparently There's No Such Thing as Too Hot for Ramen!…read more I was working from my Midtown office, which is ALWAYS freezing , so despite it being a hot day in NYC, ramen sounded like the perfect lunch. Instead of taking the easy route and ordering delivery, I decided to walk over to Kushi Kushi Yaki to get some fresh air -- and, more importantly, escape the Arctic tundra that is my office. The restaurant is small but really nicely decorated and felt warm and inviting. As soon as I walked in, the waitress/hostess greeted me and offered me a seat. I let her know I was ordering to-go, and she immediately handed me a menu so I could make my selection. I quickly landed on the Tantan Ramen -- chicken broth, seasoned ground chicken, soft-boiled egg, hot oil, bok choy, scallions, and chili paste. And OMG, it was SO good! Flavorful, comforting, with just the right amount of heat. Exactly what I needed! The price was also a pleasant surprise! The ramen was listed at $18 on the regular menu, but it was only $15 as part of the lunch special. For a filling and delicious lunch in Midtown Manhattan, I thought that was a pretty good deal. I was also really impressed with how thoughtfully they packed the ramen for takeout. The broth came in a larger container, while all of the ingredients were packed separately in a smaller container that fit perfectly inside. No soggy noodles or ingredients sitting in broth during the walk back to the office! My only small critique is the shape of the broth container. It was pretty tall and narrow, which made everything a little difficult to stir once combined. A wider, more rounded container would make eating it much easier. Since yakitori is their namesake, I also tried the 7-skewer combo along with the chicken skin and gizzard. The skin and gizzard were excellent, and the bacon-wrapped baby corn and cherry tomato from the combo were standouts. Everything was cooked well, but I wasn't a huge fan of the tare, which leaned pretty salty and lacked some balance. The lychee mango cocktail pouch was fun but nothing particularly memorable.
