I'm not sure if it's a permanent gallery? It sounded like their eventual goal was to make it a gallery-and-restaurant, which apparently according to yelp, it once was, back in 2013, though I have no idea if it was the same owner or not. In any case, at the moment, it is just an art gallery and nothing else, and I have to say, there is some really freaking good art in there as of right now. Extra neat, one of my favorite artists in the display, I believe her name was Christine, was also the one running the gallery at the time, so we got to chat with her a bit about her art, which was also surprisingly affordable for such good art (I mean, it was still expensive, but in the hundreds of dollars, where it could easily have been in the thousands somewhere more expensive). The same was true of quite possibly now my favorite art-photographer ever, Brian Chambers, whose art was so gorgeous I actually took a business card in case I feel like spending money on original art in the future, which I don't do often, because, seriously, just wow (wow at how amazingly pretty it all is, and also at how reasonably priced it is, relatively speaking.)

Evidently this building used to house a bank and the huge safe is still there against the back right wall. The day I was there, they had several pieces of wood furniture with a live edge, which I love. There was the most amazing high top table - if only I had that kind of money! Also some console tables and a coffee table. All spectacular. Bright glassware, dishes, vases and sculptures also caught my eye as did the pretty pieces of pottery, all displayed in lucite cases and in tables allowing it to be seen. Lots of paintings on the wall and on the partitions. And some enlarged photographs, too, by Brian Chambers. His pictures of the wildflowers with the Gorge in the background are breathtaking! And very affordable for the artistry. Definitely fun to browse and see if something catches your eye that you just have to have! The gentleman working that day was friendly, helpful and in no way pressuring. He let me browse at my leisure and provided answers to my questions. I will check back from time to time as I am seeking a piece of art and have something in mind. I'll know it when I see it!

The 'garages' are on concrete, and a big corner ceiling heater blows hot air to the building. When the big garage door open, it brings a lot of cold 'freezing' air to some of the customers/vendors inside. Many of the vendors have Washington license plates, and the Interstate Bridge is 16 minutes or so from the fair. Some of the vendors drive as far as Happy Valley, or Hillsboro to Hood River. There's plenty of parking in the fields. The customers can walk from one building to the next, to shop with their families, and back again when they decided what they want. People can bring their dogs on a baby buggy or on a leash. This is a place for families to gather & shop and eat or listen to music (inside a garage).

There is also the football field/main stage area where a huge concert is held on Saturday of the fair. To the West - there are food booths, vendor booths, games, and carnival rides. Many of the food vendors are local families with food establishments in the area.

What it is though, is really pretty cool. It looks a little divey with old, run-down tables and I'm down with that. Funny signs behind the tasting station that really do look like they belong in a dive bar. But here's the thing: the folks running the place are sweet as all heck and they have some really good wine which is why you are there. There's no fancy gift shop or anything fancy at all...but the wine. Remember why you are there. It's all about the wine folks. Being on the Washington side of the Columbia River Gorge you will find different wines than the usual, boring pinot noirs that do so well in the Dundee region. Sorry folks, pinot noir is not my thing. Big, bold reds, now, that's my thing. I tasted several varieties and approved of them all but the tempranillo was off the hook. One more thing, if you are hungry, you'll notice that it smells really good in here. I did not partake but the BBQ pulled pork was very, very tempting and prepared there by the proprietors. If you are in the area, don't miss this place as it's well worth a visit. 2015 - Review # 62

Of course you have the stunning view of Mt. Hood in the background, and we were lucky enough for it to be clear on our wedding day, but even on an off day if you can't see the mountain, the grounds are absolutely beautiful and so well maintained that you won't be disappointed. Most of our guests were from out of town and we got so many compliments about it being the most amazing venue they had ever been to. In fact, it took a while to get the dance floor going because people were spending so much time admiring the view and taking pictures! Starting your wedding planning journey can be so confusing and oftentimes frustrating, and finding a venue is where it really starts. Gorge Crest made the process as simple as possible, offering a full, REALISTIC event quote (including things like catering, DJ, etc.) and providing a list of mandatory vendor options. While some may find this limiting, we were pleased to know that they had vetted vendors and were so happy with everyone they recommended. Jena was always quick to respond and worked with us on our requests, including extra time in the Grooms room and letting us leave a car overnight to pack up our decorations in. The only issue we ran into was getting recurring invoices in our email that weren't meant for us... I would just recommend staying on top of what you owe them and know that you may need to remind them that they have made a mistake. Best wishes to anyone who chooses to get married here. It is a very special place.

I had some family in town and had heard great things about COR, so I made a late afternoon reservation to follow a fantastic hike at Hamilton Mountain. Boy, were we happy we did this! Michelle greeted us in the stunning and warm courtyard on a perfect spring day with some of their sparkling white. This crisp (and not too sweet) treat was a great way to welcome us - and made the walk up to the tent we had reserved - quite enjoyable. Once at our tent, we loved how warm and welcoming the space was, and you can tell much care and attention to design has been taken to heart (cor) here. My family are not huge fans of wine, but we loved every single glass included in the tasting. It was a pleasure to be able to walk around a little under the cozy afternoon sun with sweeping views of the high desert. I cannot wait to return for another experience. Thank you!

We were thrilled to be there on one of the first sunny days in a very rainy 2022 Spring, so we sat on the sunny patio with the bright blue skies and native plants as the backdrop. We were greeted with a glass of Cab Franc Rose, which I had never had before, and we both really enjoyed it. We selected the flight since it was our first time having COR wine and we wanted a variety. The flight arrives in a tin bucket with individual carafes of each pour. There were four plus a complimentary pour, so three whites and two reds. Of the whites, the Cab Fran Rose remained my fave and I also enjoyed the Pinot Gris which was crisp and light. I'm a fan of big, bold reds but because of the sun, the red wines got so hot that we couldn't drink them which was really unfortunate. They did include a small bag of ice in the bucket to keep the wines cool but it was no match for the sun. Next time, even if I am tempted by the sun, I will select a seating area in the shade so we can enjoy all of the wines in the tasting. To round out our experience, we ordered the charcuterie for $35. COR continues to be very careful with Covid protocols so the charcuterie is a kit that you put together. Olympic Provisions salami, a box of hearty crackers, Marcona almonds and casteveltrano olives in mason jars, and a soft cheese were provided; all delicious. Service was warm and friendly, they answered our questions thoroughly. Some customers like to have the staff pour each taste and explain the wine; at COR you pour your own and info on the wines is provided on a card. I prefer it this way so I can drink at my speed and our conversation isn't continuously interrupted with a description of the next wine. Everyone has their own preference but this style works for me. Will definitely be back!

It will take your breath away. One of the best views in the Gorge! Located at an elevation of 6,100 feet, South Hill Winery is the highest commercial Winery in the U.S. This two generation family spent many years growing grapes and making wine in New Zealand then founded South Hill in 2006. They chose this location because they wanted a cool climate to grow their grapes, a climate similar to New Zealand, plus access to vineyards that grow Bordeaux varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. The Columbia Gorge met both requirements. The naturally fermented vintages and all the thought and care that goes into their wine making process is evident. After trying Viognier grapes recently, it has become my favorite of the whites and South Hill Winery produces one of the best. I also loved their Cabernet Sauvignon for its full body and fruit essence. Although the climate is cool, the hospitality is very warm and inviting. The tasting room, located on the same property as their working vineyard, has an open, industrial vibe. It's bright and light with a small cozy bar area, too. But it's those bright red Adirondack chairs outside that call my name! With unmatched panoramic views of the Columbia River below, they beckon you to grab a bottle of wine, take a seat and relax surrounded by nature at its finest.
