There's not much in the town of Volcano so saying this is the best sandwich shop around isn't saying much. Objectively though they make some really delicious sandwiches. We came here to grab food for an afternoon hike. I partook in second breakfast while the rest of my family just sat there ignoring one of the most important meals of the day. We took our sandwiches to go and ate them after a few hours of hiking. First of these sandwiches are frickin huge. They cut the bread lengthwise off the loaf and aren't shy when putting on meats, toppings, or condiments. I got tuna salad and cranberry macadamia nut bread and it was delicious. Everyone in my family loved what they got and despite the fact I got tuna salad before a hike (I knew the risks) they all held up well. This place was so good that we came back this morning for breakfast and sandwiches before today's activities. It's not 5 stars because they are really good basic sandwiches. Not gonna give anyone a foodgasm but so, so satisfying. Also they love Jesus. Decorations about him and the G man everywhere. Not a positive or negative for me but if you're looking to get a little spiritual inspiration with your meal look no further. read more

Easy to miss driving by but glad we stopped. Coming from a simple Christian background, I really enjoyed the atmosphere and thought the rice bowl was delicious (I'm a sucker for fried rice. Went here after a day at the volcano. We were starving! Split a turkey and provolone sandwich on cranberry macademia nut bread. What a lucky find! Right off the main road to the left is this small kine place with onolicious grinds! Okay okay, it's freakin' awesome if you didn't get the other part! The 2 of us shared the spinach quiche, Portuguese bean soup and chili. Soooo good. But please, don't stop there! We tried to share the cranberry mac nut bread pudding with some kind of sweet aloha filled goodness of icing that we begged to take cups of with us to go! It was so good. We did take the rest to go and made bread pudding french toast topped with sauteed apple bananas with local honey for dinner's dessert. Holy cow. (feel free to try it yourself!) Great quick place to stop for lunch if you're in Volcano. The sandwiches are pricy, $8.50, but it is more like 2 sandwiches and you can save half for later size. Very tasty too. Polite staff, they also have good desserts if you are into sweet stuff. read more

I like the breakfast croissants. Sometimes there's quite a wait. The staff are very nice. The entire establishment is completely plastered with Christian scripture. There's usually some kind of Christian music playing. Their sandwiches are quite good but overpriced in my opinion. If you get one of the desserts make sure that it's been properly defrosted. read more

Standard sandwiches using sub to mid quality meats. The sandwiches are large and can be shared btw 2 people. We ordered a turkey on cranberry Mac nut bread which sounded really delicious but actually came out, meeh not so good. Particularly since the delicious sounding bread was stale and bland. They have daily specials that are not sandwich related but i read other reviewers say stick to the sandwiches. So if that's the best they've got, I'll pass. It is conveniently located to the volcanoes national park. Also, they do spew religious talk on their big screen television which is seen & heard if you sit outside to eat. read more

What's not to like??? 1) super close to Volcano National Park. You can easily take a break, exit the park, get here in about 5 min, enjoy lunch... and head back to the park. 2) helpful staff. The room where the counter is is SUPER TINY, but you can squeeze in, pick your order and options, drink, dessert... and the staff was nice. 3) good variety of sandwiches and hot food, including soups. Super delicious. I had a turkey sandwich was was delicious and huge. DH had the Portuguese Bean Soup which to his delight included sausage and was super delicious. DS had the "lunch plate"--but this was more Ohio-style lunch plate than Hawaii-style. Large serving of roast beef over rice, with some roasted potato and carrot. He devoured it all. 4) OK place to sit. They have several picnic tables with shade. It's along the street, but there's not much traffic and we enjoyed sitting outside, watching the birds and the trees. 5) delicious dessert. Excellent huge sandwich on delicious bread, some salads, drinks, delicious chocolate pecan tart all for $20 & worth it! You can choose your bread & veggies. Plus they have plate lunch meals & specials. Very friendly & fast 4 us. Tiny inside just for ordering so line at lunch went out the door, & THAT tells u something about this place's popularity, doesn't it? Basic seating outside but who cares? Went here after a busy day at the national park. Solid sandwich. They are bigger than expected. Our phone was trying to take us further than necessary, but we still were able to find it. This place is convenient if you are hungry and need a bite after touring Volcanos National Park. That's how we found ourselves here, despite the uneven reviews. It seems to be family run and their are a number of charitable/religious causes advertised on the walls. The best part of our visit were the really darling hand drawn cards by children to benefit a local school. If you like kiddie art, be sure to pick up a few. But, wait, you are thinking about eating here, right? Well, that's a different story! If your group is on the verge of a meltdown and you really need something to eat, pick something safe. Like a sandwich or a bagel and cream cheese. My son and I made the mistake of ordering the homemade chili that was recommended by other Yelpers. Talk about greasy! The chili will stay with you, not just as a fond vacation memory but as a stomachache and worse for a day or two. We now have a joke about similar greasy spoons - we call it Death by Chili. read more

Such a delicious little sandwich shop in Volcano! The ambiance isn't much to brag about but the food is delicious and the employees (family shop?) are nice and quick. It's build your own sandwich so we did the 3 grain bread (yum, made there I'd guess?), turkey, mayo/mustard and all the veggies. It's one of those few shops left on the planet that doesn't charge by individual toppings but instead has you pay a reasonable price for a solid sandwich. And I shouldn't forget to mention that the sandwiches are huge! My husband and I are fairly good eaters but we were fine splitting a sandwich and a bowl of chili. The chili is super ono and perfect for the often cold days and evenings in Volcano. Recommended. Visit and eat up! read more

My wife and I stopped off here before a day in the National Park. This was a great place to get a quick sandwich before spending a day hiking and exploring. The food was decently priced, service was quick and friendly, and the location was convenient at just a few minutes outside of the park. Stopped for breakfast and they were out of some items on the limited menu. Not very friendly, bacon was microwaved. Charged extra to substitute cheddar cheese on my breakfast croissant which was greasy and also microwaved. Very friendly to locals and obviously assumed we were tourists because they were unfriendly and we will not go back! I love to support small local businesses but not this one! read more

This was a great value for lunch. Really big, custom made sandwiches on unique breads for $6.95. Canned drinks were $0.75. I had the turkey on Volcano 3 Seed, with lots of fresh veggies including sprouts, avocado and cucumbers. It hit the spot after doing the Kilauea Iki hike. We purchased a couple of desserts, too - the tiramisu and chocolate mousse cake - so good! Overall, we felt we got a lot of tasty, fresh food for a good price. read more

We stopped in for a coffee early Saturday morning - before most places were open. I had a great regular coffee and got a few "lava" soaps that the owner's son had made, but my friends were disappointed to not be able to get espressos, lattes, or mochas. They have a huge sign out front that says "espresso" so it was a little confusing that they don't serve them. Cute cafe and glad they were open at 7:00am! read more
