It's ok. I really enjoyed my meal on the previous 2 visits, but this time was lackluster. I ordered the duck with green peppercorn sauce...the sauce was flavorless and the duck was over cooked...they certainly give ample portions however .... Way too big a serving of duck... Even if it had been good... And I'm a fat guy saying this! I'll go again... Just very underwhelmed this time through read more

I had the brisket. Let me tell you...one of the BEST meals of my life!!! If that is how they ate in the 1850's then put me in a time machine and take me back. Lemonade was beyond delicious. The jam was so mouthwatering the I wanted to drink it from the bowl. It is a must stop if you go to Greenfield Village in Dearborn, mi. read more

If you're at Greenfield Village for the vibe, this is the place for you. It captures the feeling of the 18th century Tavern, complete with the charm, as well as the challenges, of that time. Just a few notes: it's dark and cold on a late summer day. It fits the feel, but we were chilly for sure. Also, be ready for communal tables. Also, probably true to the period, the food menu is limited. The dishes look good, but you have a pretty basic choice between a steak dish, a chicken dish, and a fish dish. Also some sides. I actually chose a charcuterie platter that was themed after a similar dish of the 1800s. It was satisfying but also basic (I suppose I should have expected that). What would have made the place stronger: better heating and lighting. I understand that it's meant to be thematic, but it was uncomfortably rustic. A few more menu options wouldn't have hurt. read more

Couple years ago we dined in at the Eagle Tavern inside Henry Ford Village, one of our favorite spots, and we were amazed with the food at the Tavern particularly the vegetable soup because every ingredient in it was grown organically at the Henry Ford Farm. The Tavern serves food according to the harvest season when it comes to vegetables. This time, in August 2022, we were not so lucky. We had only corn soup as a choice, that had chicken broth. Since we do not eat meat we could not order that. No other soup choices. I ordered Fish (trout) from the menu and my wife ordered a pasta dumpling. Every thing was terrible. No taste whatsoever, even the salad tasted like grass. My fish tasted like a boiled water, even with lots of lemon I poured on, along with plenty of salt and pepper. My wife could not touch the dumpling. The only good was the bread, butter, and the little pickles. That's it. Needless to say, we were very disappointed. I hope this is a one off situation otherwise, it would not be worth dining at such an expensive restaurant even though it takes you back in time to re-live history. Henry Ford Village management must harken to this issue. read more

I like the aesthetic vibe it gives off, it is a really good spot to go if you are at greenfield village at night. But you have to pay online and buy from the internet beforehand instead of after the meals, so that brings down the rating. I like the fact you get all the meals on the menu, and it has really good diversity in food. The waiters and the food is professional. I give a 8/10 in a casual restaurant. read more

I am a member of the Henry Ford and Greenfield Village and frequently go here and enjoy the museum and village, as well as many things the shops and restaurants the Village has to offer. I have to say The Eagle Tavern is my favorite place to eat out of all of the places in both village and museum. The food is comforting and all made from scratch. I love that they always change the menu as the season changes. The staff is so friendly and has a wonderful way of making you feel like you have stepped back in time. read more

I love Eagle Tavern! It's my favorite restaurant in Dearborn. It's so good, I will frequently go to the Village simply to eat there, and then walk back out. They do a good job of making it feel like it is 1840 without being ridiculous (they take your credit card without fuss, for example). The food is as local as they can make it, often with ingredients grown right at the Village itself! They always have a vegetarian entree, appetizer, and soup, and the entree comes with a bowl of muffins and biscuits, as well as pickled vegetables, jam, and homemade butter. They have lots of interesting drinks, and I've never had a bad one. My personal favorite is a hot apple cider and rum drink with a sugared rim - perfect for a cool autumn night! The seating is communal, and the first time you go it might seem slightly strange to be sitting at a table with strangers. Generally, though, each group just keeps to themselves, and it turns out not to be a big deal at all. But if you do feel like chatting, I've never known anyone to mind! read more

Really not sure why this place is all the rage. It get the historic experience and I know food back in the day was rather simple. But simple food can taste awesome and the Eagle Tavern was reminiscent of a bad old school banquet hall. They are getting 2 stars because the bread basket was A - OK. It felt like a tourist trap and maybe because I didn't grow up around here I don't have the nostalgia that others do to think this place is turn of the century good. In the future, I'd skip this and find a deep fried turkey leg somewhere else. read more

Ok let me start by saying I don't like being sat with complete strangers for a meal. However my husband loves to meet new people and so I went for him. The people we were sat with however were in a bad mood and their child proceeded to slam his sippy cup against the table the whole meal. The service is not great, the atmosphere is nice and the period clothing is nice. The building and tables are nice and old fashioned. The dinner rolls were stale, the muffins ok. My savory noodle dish was good but not worth the money. I did not feel like the staff wanted to be there. I don't know if they were trying to portray life back in the day, well I didn't care for it. read more

I've been here three times now: Once as visitor with out of town guess, once as a wedding guest and recently for the Yelp Elite event: Evenign at Eagle Tavern. Having been a reg Joe Schmoe and a catered guest, I can tell you that the service, food and historic factor are worth a visit on you own and a definite go for an event. I love the historic factor of wooden interior and old timey food and drink. As a reg visitor I had a hard apple cider from near Fenton (I wish I remembered what company it was!!). At the wedding, it was a catering menu including mahi-mahi and fantastic cake. At the Yelp event, it was hand made salumi and hams. Not salty and really high quality. I believe it is what they serve on their charcuterie plate. Their dedication to local is authentic the times and the local food movement :P Not sure what one of the reviewers posted by "non-traditional meats". Venison? Hello, it's Michigan. Enjoy some local color, folks! From reading another Yelp review, I learned you can just go without full admission to the Village. Might be worth a date night =) read more

Ambiance: Unlike other reviewers, I didn't mind the shared seating at the large wooden tables (8 per table) but our neighbors were respectful and friendly. The lighting aside from the table lanterns was purely ambient which was charming and understandably part of the experience. Staff were a mixed bunch but overall not as friendly or attentive as one would expect from people trying to earn a tip. I could see waters and small details getting neglected if the place was busy but it was only half full when we ate. Food: The complimentary bread basket was superb in my opinion. OK, you get a pretty standard plain roll that's not served warm and not moist but it is soft, fluffy, and an excellent vehicle for their homemade unsalted butter and delicious blueberry jam. The blueberry and bran muffins were soft, moist, and very flavorful. We complimented this with the salmagundi which was really a charcuterie of a white cheese, sliced salami, and a hard-boiled egg. Not what we expected but a tasty addition to the bread and complimentary pickled sides. Main courses were the rabbit stew and roasted chicken. The stew was admittedly bland because it was unsalted but that's why they give you a salt dish! Otherwise the veggies still a slight bite and the meat was fall-off-the-bone tender. My 'complaint', and I know it's part of the rustic-ness, was that I got primarily the spinal column of the rabbit (and a leg) which was a little unsettling to eat. The roasted chicken was by far the best dish we had, being perfectly cooked to tender and moist perfection. The boiled cabbage and mashed potatoes were also uniquely seasoned and very enjoyable. Overall I had a good meal although the best thing was probably the complimentary baked goods in the beginning followed by the roasted chicken. The prices are admittedly exorbitant but I came in the mind-set of eating at an amusement park in which case the prices are fair ($12-15 entrees). If this were a regular restaurant anywhere else I would probably give it 2-3 stars but I think given the setting and it's goal of being a ultra-rustic restaurant, it gets 3.5 stars. Worth a visit but not a regular go-to IMO. P.S. The menu changes 3 times a year read more

The experience is pretty neat, honestly. The food is about what I'd expect from any place charging $18 for a plate, so certainly not disappointing. We got the full experience, being seated with complete strangers and served in a room completely devoid of anything disposable or electric. Seriously, the power could be out and you would never know it. Come to think of it, you could spend all day in Greenfield Village and not know if the power was out...well done, guys. As I said, the food was pretty good. Not anything that really blows you away. After all, I can get pork medallions and plum sauce at most decent restaurants today, so you don't really feel like you're stepping back in time menu-wise, but it's worth it for the atmosphere. read more

We were at Greenfield Village for Holiday Nights and ate at the Eagle Tavern. The ambiance is like going back in history a hundred years. The food was excellent. The squash soup is thick and hearty and very savory. Everyone in our group enjoyed it. The chicken with biscuits was tremendous. Service was perfect. Holiday Nights is also a great event. Lots of interesting things to see and do. We especially enjoyed the glass shop demo and the pottery demo. Both made some beautiful things Don't forget to get a ride in the Model T's. I had so been looking forward to trying the Eagle Tavern for years. It is a splurge, but my husband and I finally gave it a try while our children were out of town at camp. We were so very disappointed. Like many reviewers are saying, you are choosing between an experience and a satisfying meal. We each ordered an entree, and I ordered a hard cider. The bread, jam, fresh butter, and relish that arrived before our meal were actually very nice. And then...we waited. A solid 45 minutes. Finally, the entrees arrived. By contrast, they were dull, dreary, and the meat was tough from being overcooked. And they were actually closer to room temperature than I want to admit (is that why we waited so long? Hey, cut the cook time and you'll naturally cut the wait, so you'll have happier customers!) They were served with "new" (not really) potatoes and green beans--both were horribly overcooked and under-seasoned--not salvageable. If you look closely outside the tavern, you see that it is connected to the other Village restaurant, Taste of History, so we are reasonably sure that food from both restaurants is being prepared in the same space. They are trying to tout a home-cooked experience for Eagle Tavern, but it's clear that you are being served industrial food, i.e., I'm *reasonably* sure they didn't use bulked canned white sauce or brown sauce from Gordon's Food Service in the 1850's. If the sauces had actually been homemade, it might have made a bit of a difference. My grandmother grew up on a farm and married during the Great Depression. That woman could cook well, and cook cheap. Her food was always cooked well and seasoned nicely. Now, I realize there's a difference in time between the 1850's and the 1930's, but honestly, food didn't change much until after the Depression, and wholesome, home-cooked food does not need to be bland (nor does it need to be overcooked!) And...my cider never arrived. So, the food was very much sub-par. If you want the historical experience of eating in a tavern as you would in the 1850's, you might enjoy your time here. If you want a delicious meal, eat elsewhere (and might I suggest Cotswold Cottage Tea at the Village instead?) The sad thing was, we wanted the experience, but we were disappointing. First of all, as many are saying, the place is freezing. It's July, so A/C is great, but the air conditioning was blowing right on my husband the whole time. Our teeth were chattering by the time our (warm) food arrived. He finally stepped outside for a moment just to warm up while we waited (a very long time) for our meal. The waitstaff was short two people that day. This is not our server's fault, and he was working his tail off trying to take care of all the customers he had. However, I feel like that is management's responsibility to monitor: if you can't adequately serve these tables without running your severs into the ground, don't seat as many people. It's simple math. Even though we knew he was overworked, he still forgot our drink and it was so impossible to catch his eye that we had to ask a busser to look for him after waiting a half-hour for our check. So take your pick. Experience, or satisfying meal? Even then, the experience is hit or miss. You might do better to just order a small plate or a dessert as a snack, or have a seat in their bar with a beverage (assuming it will eventually show up.) read more

I was in a group of 8 people, the waiter started off by basically yelling at us in an extremely rude way because we didn't all quiet down when he walked up to tell us about the menu. At first I thought it was one of those restaurants that the wait staff is rude to the customers as a joke, this was no joke, he was just a jerk. I asked if a particular dish had large portions because I'm a big guy and would like to know if I'll be full when done. He said yes very large portions. When the waiter brought the glasses for water they were stacked 2 high and to carry them he had his thumb inside the top glass. We all looked at each other in disbelief. The joke was "who wants the Covid glasses?" I got my meal and it had 2 small potatoes, half an ear of corn and a very small piece of meat. The person next to me ordered the same thing and he got almost twice as much as me. I guess I was being punished for asking questions. The other people in my group had either cold food or terrible tasting food. All overpriced for what we got. Then when we asked for the bill our waiter kept telling us he'll get to it. After 20 minutes of waiting some of us just put cash on the table (with NO tip of course) and walked out. Others had to keep waiting because they paid with a card. They had the tip automatically added to the bill even though the waiter didn't deserve anything for the terrible service and rude behavior. I had to go somewhere else to eat afterwords because I was still hungry after my $23 meal. NEVER AGAIN will I go there to eat!!!! read more

My visits are few and far between because for me it is a bit pricey to get in, but I have gone here every time I visit in the last few years and it is so unique, different, TASTY with wonderful service and the prices are very reasonable in my opinion for the quality of the food, service and atmosphere. read more

Eagle Tavern - American Near Me - Dearborn, Michigan

The Eagle Tavern is what makes Greenfield Village complete. Firstly, their period-correct food, costumes, and decor authenticate your GV experience. The food is grown on-site, organically, except for the meat, which is also organic and supplied from local sources. Menu constantly changes, which makes dining there never get old. If you just want to beat the heat, the bar area at the front of the Tavern is excellent. They have non-alcoholic drinks as well as period-correct libations. Patrick and Andrew are two phenomenal bartenders. read more

We love the eagle tavern, we've been here several times but never reviewed. The restaurant is in period,1800s and the staff dress and act the part. The bartenders concoction s are also from the period. Each and every food item is what was served back in the day as it was a real restaurant of the 1800s ran by Calvin wood where the original restaurant was in Clinton Michigan. The food is so good I ordered the fresh locally caught perch with red potatoes, to drink I had a bourbon neat and a period res ale that was delicious our server was awesome as well acted in character and explained to us each and every item and how it was prepared in 1850. I also learned the food and vegetables are from the farm here in Greenfield village. The people work the farms just as they did back then, with the same equipment everyday and have chores. Hence the delicious churned butter rolls, and biscuits we got with our meals. The decor is hard wood floors each table and chair are from theb1800s set with real flame candlelight, the chandeliers are all also candles. The fire place is also beautiful. read more

Eagle Tavern - American Near Me - Dearborn, Michigan

I love the Eagle Tavern. I think my subconscious tricked me into buying an annual membership to Greenfield Village for the sole purpose of being able to go to the Eagle Tavern on a whim for brunch or cocktails. All of the recipes used are from the early-mid 19th century. The food is rather simply seasoned, but cooked quite well and made with high quality ingredients. The menu changes with the seasons, though you can always expect hearty comfort food. There are plenty of vegetarian options, and at the other end of the spectrum, wild game. I've tried rabbit and venison here and was pleased with both. The savory quiches and smoked fish offerings are also quite good. Considering that the restaurant is located in a tourist attraction, I find the prices to be quite reasonable, especially given the quality of the food (I don't think you can buy rabbit legs from Sysco). Every meal comes with a large bowl of bread and muffins with homemade butter and jam, as well as some sort of relish. The drink menu features all manner of fun, old-timey concoctions with something to fit everyone's taste. My personal favorite is the maple bourbon sour. It is fantastic. Perhaps the food might not be considered mind-blowing by 21st century standards, but it is real, and simple, and wholesome, and definitely a joy to eat. The atmosphere (heavy wooden furniture, attractive pottery, candles instead of lights...) also lends to a dining experience that manages to feel special without being hokey. read more

Omagoodness. Where do I start? So this tavern is located in Greenfield Village. I have never heard of this place until we went over to the Machine Shop and a kind worker there informed us of its existence. There is no electric lighting in the main dining room of this restaurant. The main room is filled with wooden tables (lit by candles) and wooden chairs of different types. They really went out of their way to replicate that old-timey feel. The waitresses, waiters and bus-folks were also dressed the part. I really enjoyed the atmosphere. The food here is a tad pricey, but you're really paying for the whole experience. Plus you're inside an amusement venue...stuff is usually a tad pricey. So the food. I ordered the summer noodles so that I could try to keep it light whilst enjoying my experience at Greenfield Village. The dish had some nice thick noodles, green beans, small shallot onions (that were super tasty) and tomatoes. The whole thing was covered in a deliciously savory cream sauce. It sounds a bit heavy, but trust me when I say that it wasn't. I devoured the platter of pasta like a Hungry Hungry Hippo. My wife ordered the fried chicken and potatoes. The chicken breast was amazing! Frankenmuth chicken has nothing on this stuff. The chicken was moist and tender. It was also topped with a dollop of gravy that really tied in well with the flavor of the chicken. I was impressed. The potatoes were kind of like fingerling potatoes but really large. They were cooked to the perfect tenderness...not dry at all. We also stuffed their dinner rolls into our eager pie holes (sounds dirty...i did that on purpose). The rolls were served with some fresh blueberry jam. I am a HUGE blueberry fan, so I coated the bread with this stuff. Holy crap it was amazing. My son usually doesn't eat food very fast. He's 6. He ate his chicken fingers so fast, even Sonic the Hedgehog said "whoa...that was fast". I would highly recommend this dining experience. Not only was the atmosphere awesome, the food was fantastic. Just be aware, the seating is communal. We didn't try any of their special drinks this time...so for once I am left without an opinion on something. If you're enjoying some of the sites with the family (or even by yourself)...eat here. It's truly worth it. thanks for reading... strik9 read more

Decided to try this place after reading all the positive Yelp reviews. Unfortunately, I think the reviews led me to think the place was going to be great...it wasn't. It was like an Applebees regarding food quality. I ordered roasted chicken and my companion ordered the fish dish. Less then 5 minutes later it arrived at our table aka the food is not freshly cooked. Either they microwave it or it is sitting in the back in buffet style warming trays. I didn't even have time to eat my blueberry muffin before the food arrived. Now the food tasted fine. Nothing to write home about but, it was good enough. I did order the eggplant and roasted tomatoes dish and it tasted spoiled so I had the waiter remove the cost from the bill. The restaurant is quite loud...which I don't like and was happier when the lunch rush began filtering out. I believe it is due to the buildings shape and the fact that there are no dividers between any tables. Everyone's' voices seem to echo. I wouldn't go back again. I think I would be better off finding a place right outside Greenfield Village to eat. read more
