Well folks! I think we have tried almost all of the surrounding eateries within the Hamilton…read moreAlabama area. As I have mentioned before, there are a limited amount of sit down restaurants in this vicinity. As a dedicated "Yelper", all of the reviews on multiple platforms have been reviewed and re-evaluated for possible exciting new discoveries. Interviewing and requesting feedback from the locals is a consistent way of finding these treasures as well. We may have resigned ourselves to the possibility that we may never find all of the criteria that make for a successful dining experience here in Guin, Alabama. Delicious fresh food; attentive, timely service; and a comfortable dining atmosphere. Everything else is just extra! Hambone's BBQ has none of those things. The front entrance has no signage and you can't be 100% sure you are here. The inside reminds me of going to the American Legion with Uncle Bob when I was a kid. The mismatch furniture and odd decor is illuminated by an early 70's fluorescent lighting and I can't see any design theme at all. I get the sense we decorated from someone's yard sale. The food was nothing to write home about. I ordered the #78. This was a thick sliced baked potato that has been (supposedly) deep fried, sprinkled with shredded cheese, cubed brisket pieces added with a tiny bit of sour cream, bacon, and a whole lot of pickled Jalapeños (Like covered with Jalapeños). Lisa and Mom had the same thing but with BBQ pulled pork and Aunt K. went with the #78 with chicken. Uncle ordered the pulled pork sandwich and the boys had the ribs, and catfish. I did like the ribs! Very tender and tasty when you slather it with sauce. But, unfortunately, nothing else seemed to work. I don't know what to say about the #78 except, KUDOS for trying, I guess. I'm sorry but, none of us enjoyed it. Reports from the family came in as the following: The chicken was dry and needed seasoning, the catfish was chewy on the edges, dry towards the center, with a distinct fishy taste, and definitely needed some additional seasoning. Uncle was not impressed. The smoked meat, itself, was well prepared (as average smoked BBQ goes). Mom was disappointed. The service was fine. There were 5-6 teenagers serving the few customers in on a Saturday evening and checked on us frequently. They were very polite and our food came out fairly quickly. I will say, as a side note, the drive through was pretty steady. We were a bit surprised to be greeted by the owner (Greg) sporting his tattered overalls and ball cap. He sat and joined us for a bit of conversation during our meal. If you decide to visit this place on your way through, I would recommend hitting the drive through and definitely choose the ribs, and ask for extra sauce. Sorry Greg. Billy P.

The building is classic roadhouse style--totally unpretentious with its sign and adverts plaster on the walls. The interior is the same, open seating and seats at the bar. The menu has broadened over the years, rather than just ribs, white bread and pudding, you can get a pork sandwich and chicken with a limited number of sides (the Mac and cheese is superior). The franchised Dreamlands are so different with a plethora of choices, more to the liking of the suburban south. If you like that, go for it. For my money, you can't beat the original. The ribs are charred perfectly and the service is old time South, friendly and helpful. You immediately feel at ease with everything and everyone around you. Take out is available--actually this place is just minutes off the highway. But a whole another world at the same time.

Our server was the sweetest. She helped my picky son decide what he would like, and she was spot on. The only thing I didn't like were the ribs which is weird. Just a tad too dry for me. I DID like the Chicken and my son got the sausage and I think Brisket....Anyways, we will go back next time we are in town for a game. Roll Tide.
