Just as sweet tea is the champagne of the South, barbecue is its kobe steak. And you don't look for the building with valet parking or a fancy sign or cloth napkins. You search for the kind of places that make you question if they're even open or not. If they are, you're in for a treat. Such a place residues in the small city of Fayette, Alabama (pop. less than 5,000/less than an hour above University of Alabama). Here the paper towel rolls are on the table and the tablecloths are plain and stain resistant. Cups and plates are styrofoam, utensils are plastic. And the food, well you already know after reading thus far. Now I'll go ahead and mention that they do serve a few non-bbq related items; burgers, ham sandwiches, pork chops, and a variety of pies (by the slice). To these, I cannot speak. My order was that of a marathon runner just crossing the finish line. Large pork sandwich plate with okra, green beans, mac n cheese, and sweet tea to wash it all down. I was there with family, but their words and laughs soon faded as I took bite after delicious bite from my plate. I can't prove it, but I am sure there was a period of food coma blindness where my eyes were closed so I could give full attention to the savory meat with its molasses and brown sugar kissed sauce coming across my palette like a holiday gift to my tastebuds. Needless to say I refilled my cup a few times (including for the road) and that proved to be all the dessert I required. I am not in this area often, but I promise that any time I am Lisa's will be a required stop. read more

In town on business and looking for good bbq. Lisa's was exactly what I had in mind. Great atmosphere. Nice menu. I ended up with the grilled shrimp plate. Excellent. Sides were phenomenal. Beans were really good with pork in them. Slaw good vinegar based flavor. Perfect local bbq restaurant. read more

My husband and I ordered 4 steak dinners last nite which cost us $120.00. . I ordered the steaks well done.....but when we got home we started eating..and the steaks was not cooked well done...they were red on the inside and one of them was really red ..cause it was raw.and we paid good money for the steaks. Business has gone downhill extremely. Run mostly by kids who will get your orders wrong, and if you call your order ahead they won't start making it until you get there making you wait 40 minutes for a plate you ordered 15 minutes prior to arrival. read more

This restaurant is under new management and the last couple of times I have eaten here I've been disappointed. The BBQ has been dry and my beloved chicken fingers are greasy. I will stop on occasion for their "Messy Pig" but mostly I just pass this one up for better options in town. read more

I had the barbeque plate with pulled pork, baked beans, and cole slaw (a hamburger bun accompanied the meal) The barbecue was dry, dry, dry...so much so that I had to drown it in barbecue sauce and the baked beans tasted as if they were pork-n-beans straight from a can. The slaw was good but I'm unsure if it is made in-house or not. The bun was sliced into two sections but it was served cold. I would suggest grilling the bun to Lisa's. A cold, plain bun just isn't appetizing. The biggest complaint is the barbeque, though. It is unforgivable that a place with barbeque in their business' name would serve barbeque that was dried out. It's also pretty bad when you serve beans straight from a can. VERY disappointed! ***It's spelled BARBEQUE, not barbarque. C'mon people! read more

Lisa's has always been a great staple in Fayette, and it is only better now that it is under new ownership. The loaded potato spuds are great and the small pig is also very good. read more

We were in town working for the day, and locals told us this was the place to go when we asked for info on the best places to eat int town. We had 4 people in our party, including one person using a wheelchair, and one person who was Deaf, and the staff provided good service to all. I ordered the pork plate with the day's special veggies Fried Green Tomatoes and Squash Casserole. I thought the pork was great, as was the squash casserole. I love fried green tomatoes, but these were a bit tough in the core. Either they weren't cooked enough to soften the centers, or the tomatoes were too green. To be fair, it isn't easy to prepare unripened tomatoes. They tasted good, just a little too tough in the core. Overall, and excellent restaurant, everyone in our party seemed to like their meals. One person ordered the pork ribs; I wish I hadn't been wearing a white shirt or I'd have gotten some as well! read more

The first place I go whenever I visit family back home. I've tried about half the menu in all my years at Lisa's and never been disappointed. I will hold that their BBQ sauce, ranch, and chicken finger sauce are some of the best around, and I've lived throughout the Southeast at this point and tried a lotta good barbeque along the way. read more

Yet another great meal from the best BBQ place in town. If you want great BBQ or chicken this is the place to go. The prices are reasonable and the food is always fresh from the grill/smoker. Great food. Generous portions. Only downfall is the A.C.. Its best to just place an order, at least if it's hot out, because you will be sweating inside. Tons of memorabilia on the walls. Overall a great place for lunch or dinner. I just wish they would fix the air issue read more

Some relatives of mine live in Fayette, so I find myself there regularly. My Yankee husband LOVES Lisa's and insists that we eat there every time. Their ribs are fantastic, but the tater log keeps me coming back. The prices are reasonable and the service is friendly. read more
