This easy access state park is located right off of state highway 44 in Eagle, about 15-20 minutes from Boise. There's a $6 entry fee if you don't have a state park pass, but apparently those can be bought for (I think) $10 at the dmv. The park has hiking/walking trials, a lake that you can fish and boat in (non-motorized), a beach with 4 roped in swimming areas, picnic tables, a disk golf course, zip lining, and a water slide! The zip lining is run by a different group and you have to go through them to do it, not sure who the water slide is run by but there was a booth that you could purchase access from. We went for a nice long walk on our visit. Found the Loop Trail on All Trails and followed along with that for the most part. We shortened it and didn't do the whole 5ish miles that it showed, but ended up with about 4. The trial was a flat and easy walk and could've been shortened or extended in many places. Without the app, the trails weren't all marked that well, so it could be easy to go the wrong direction for a ways. Liked that the trail followed along the river for a bit, you couldn't see past the brush to the water in most parts, but in the spots you could the river was a nice view. Bathrooms were closed when we visited, though they did have some port o potties set up.

Another fantastic place to embrace the outdoors right in the heart of the Treasure Valley. This large state park has a large frisbee golf course, tons of lawn, a pond, a "beach", a play structure, two bathrooms, several shelters, plenty of walking paths, a zip line company and a paddleboard rental company. Phew! We like to go during the height of summer to spend time at the beach. The sand is really nice, soft and usually kept very clean. The beach area is large enough for lots of people to spread out. They keep a swim area roped off which helps if you have younger kiddos. Non-swimmers can paddle board or kayak and around the bend is good fishing spots! There is a playground right next to the beach with some shade. They have had problems in the past with water-born illness but since adding the bubblers, it has been a lot better. I don't think they've closed the water since. You can spend lots of time wandering the trails, hanging by the beach or playing on the grass. In winter there is a snow hill made for tubing!

It's great to have a State Park so close to the city! Eagle Island is a nice big park with lots of activities to do throughout the year. Visited recently to take photos of my daughter's family for their Christmas card. There were plenty of good background areas for the photo shoot. We plan to return periodically to experience this park's beauty and amenities.

Winter at Eagle Island park brings Gateway Park's snow hill. For just about $20 per person, you can buy an online pass for an hour and a half session of tubing down a man-made snow hill. They provide tubes, a magic carpet, and supervised fun. We had a blast sliding down the hill over and over. Highly recommend this fun activity!! they also have a fire pit, snack stands, and places to picnic. For more info: https://gatewayparks.com/

Great park in Eagle that I regularly visit with my dog. They unfortunately had a toxic algae outbreak earlier this summer, but quickly took action cleaning it up, and making the water safe again for swimming. I'm super happy about that! Dogs aren't allowed on the sandy beaches, but there's lots of open, more secluded spots at the far end of the park, that are less crowded anyway. Dogs can swim, but are required to stay on leash on land. Also a great spot for floating, kayaking, paddling, blackberry picking, disc golf, exploring, and more!

Our favorite location to go on a summer day with the kids. Easy access. Always can find a spot if you come at the right time. Which is mostly a weekday after 4pm . Works for us. Access to SUP's, swimming and we have yet to try the slide and playground on site. Lots of grassy area for picnics and lounging. Warm water kids can enjoy splashing in.

I walk my dogs here all the time. It's a good park for that. They have big fields where dogs can run off leash.

Lots of benches to sit at and a fire pit. Today 12/13/23 from 4-5:30pm crew...this one's for you! The reason for this YELP review is to express gratitude for the crew in charge of sending us down the snow lanes. My daughter (4yrs old) was so terrified to go down the slides and they were so kind. So gentle. Such great cheer leaders to motivate her to do it. After 3 attempts they finally convinced her to do it and she loved it. My parents (both in their 70's) my husband my daughter and myself will talk about this experience for years to come. While at dinner my dad thanked us for making today one of his favorite days in his life. My little one is still talking about how fun it was and how everyone clapped for her. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. If I could hug the guys working there I would've. Thank you thank you and thank you.

They'd rolled their eyes, promised, nearly guaranteed there'd be snow. I mean it's bloody Idaho....in January. There WILL be snow. But of course, the few days we were there? None on the ground and not a single flake fell. But the Gateway saved us! Like I said we knew nothing. So we didn't book or pay on-line or sign any waivers in advance. We rolled up with cash in our pockets and said we wanted to play. The runs were fast and fun. There was one with a jump large enough that I got airborne several times. The staff that manned the runs were upbeat and energetic. And it was a great opportunity for this hevier-than-he-ought-to-be visitor to get some vigorous exercise. I loved the intertube design!! Someone clearly has given that some thought. The skins that covered the intertubes were freakishly fast and the handles were thick and rugged and comfortable. It was especially awesome to set the intertube down at the top of a run, back up 3 or 4 big steps, and give it a running, leaping start. Just for a minute as I was in the air or as I was screaming sideways down the run I could relish the sense of invincibility that teenagers and 20-somethings enjoy as a routine part of life. It was wonderful.

My first time in Boise, visiting a lifelong friend, we hired Mike Raymondi to be our guide on the…read moreOwyhee River for a day of catch and release trout fishing. The three of us, retired women with modest fishing experience and a love for nature, instantly felt at ease as he selected the waders, boots and gear in the well-organized TRR store in Eagle ( when you go there, look up, you'll have a fish's point of view- watery blown glass ornaments suspended from the ceiling). We followed Mike's truck to the river where he selected a sweet spot clear of snags and sunken hazards. The birds and awe-inspiring panoramic beauty made focusing on the orange indicator a bit of a challenge. Mike gave us a quick and articulate tutorial on casting, mending and setting the lines, then he spaced us out on the length of the river where he grew several sets of eyes, simultaneously guiding our line work and alerting us to the bobber's behavior, which you see before you feel anything. I missed several nibbles because I saw a tanager or a flicker, but we all hooked and I landed a big brown trout with lovely speckles and no wounds from the brief fight we had in reeling it in. The big takeaway about a good or bad day fishing, according to Mike, is this: hooking and landing combine a multitude of very different skills, and many people who say the fishing was bad, missed the nibble or the set, and failed to catch what fish were there. To me, there is no bad day of fishing if you are in the care of a competent guide, supplied with proper gear, a spectacular picnic lunch (kudos to Tasso in Eagle) and in an exceptionally beautiful piece of God's country, which was the case for us. Now for those of you who believe the only value in fishing is catch, catch, catch, this review will mean nothing. Mike mustered all of his powers to switch out the types of nymph flies (we were nymphing this time), and we had a spare afternoon, but you can't make fish eat when they don't wish to. Nonetheless, we felt satisfied, happy and properly looked after by TRR's professional guide service.
