Rude customer service!! I called EZPass to pay a toll fee and after only giving my first and last name, I was immediately transferred to a Spanish speaking rep. I am not ashamed of speaking Spanish but I was absolutely offended that just by my name alone they assumed I don't speak English. In Spanish, I told the Spanish speaking rep that I was surprised that I was transferred to them since I did not request to speak to someone in Spanish. I got EZPass after being billed for video tolls for a car similar to mine and with a similar tag. I had to call the city 311 number to be connected to anyone who could address this. They do deduct money from my account when I go through tolls. To make a payment to replenish the account, I need to have the account number, transponder number, phone number, email, username, password and car tag and answers to security questions. The online system is very complex and glitchy. I have to call their regular office number (which is not publicly provided) or go in person to actually make a payment so I pay enough to last awhile.​​ read more

Ezpass needs to be held accountable for thier mistakes. I handled a bill over a year ago and was just slapped with over a 500 dollar bill. So someone else's negligence cost me money no matter what proof I had to show that showed I talked to someone and cleared up my bill. I even switched to the license plate transponder to not have any more problems with the interior one which has worked great and recommend to everyone but they still hitting me for something I fixed a year ago with the old transponder. This is a racket of thieves. This program is so flawed I do not even know where to start. I do the commuter pass for driving to work. I mix my vehicles going to work to keep milage down. They decide that since I am using both vehicles that each vehicle with tag should be billed separately due to having 2 transponders. This falls underneath 1 account. Why should I have to be punished for using both my vehicles? "Well sir this is what you chose" that line is so full of it. Slow department for sure. We drove through the Fort McHenry Tunnel back the first week of October in 2031 and we just got the toll statement bill. I got charged twice for going through and then returning. I am not even sure the toll was worth it. WARNING - MD E-ZPASS IS TAKING YOUR MONEY FOR NOTHING. I'm a DC resident who crosses the Bay Bridge a few times a year, mainly in the summer. As an out-of-state account (by 3 miles), my account is being charged a "maintenance fee" every month I don't pay a toll. This will soon drain my account - or result in automatic charges to replenish a low balance. There is no cost to holding an account without any activity during a billing period - it just sits there. MD wants to encourage people to use automated tolling like E-ZPass, but this discourages it. It seems like a scam to take consumers' money. I have closed my account, and I encourage others to do so before you money disappears, too. PS - there should be a "no-star" rating on Yelp. Completely un-integrated woth other states along the 95 corridor. I have auto pay but it doesn't matter. I can't figure out why every time I drive north half the tolls along 95 don't pick up my transponder and then charge me massive fees for not having an adequate balance and because MD isn't integrated with the other states I have to call each individual state to address the problem. UPDATE: After waiting over 2 hours, I was able to speak with a rep named Tim, he was completely unknowledgeable about all things except collecting a payment and showing me the tolls. I explained that I never received the tools, as I was told that I owe 127.00, not 8 dollars, for 4 tolls, not 1 toll. The dates provided went as far back as December 2022; it was then determined that EX-Pass was sending my invoices to an address that I have not lived at for over 8 years and using my married name, which I had changed in 2016. Tim explained, I could not appeal this and there was nothing he could do as the MVA gave them the wrong address. When questioned how did i receive the correspondense for the 30. 00 admin fee, Tim did not know and then explained that I would need to dispute this in person. He could not direct me to the nearesrt location, even after I provided my current address. Tim was useless but he was certain to ask if there was anything more he could help me with. My response "you haven't helped me with anything at this point so absolutely not". I am going to the office on Monday, Novebmer 6th and will continue to update here. 1. To keep a record and 2.if anyone knows how I can get legal assistance, I would love to know. They tried to charge me $1000 for a couple of tolls that they never charged to my account. I then requested a replacement transponder which arrived immediately. I requested assistance in transferring my discount plan remaining drives to the new transponder and they closed the case 1.5 months later WITHOUT transferring the discount plan. I don't think complaining will help with the incompetence. We have 9 vehicles; they were on one account; now they are on three accounts. The last name is wrong on one. We called and waited over an hour and 13 minutes to speak to someone only to be told the accounts were merged. They still aren't. And now we can't even log into the account because it says the account number is wrong. To boot we just got two FINES for tolls for vehicles that are and have been on the account for over 2 years. Tried to call today and the 'estimated wait time' is over an hour and 30 minutes!!! This is absolutely insane. Last year we got a whole stack of bills for tolls for a car that wasn't even registered to us! There has to be a better system! We live in a world of technology and they can't get this right. If it doesn't read the transponder then there needs to be a way to cross check the licensee plate with active accounts. We cross the bay bridge every day so we get at leat ONE mistaken toll a month and we have to sit on hold for hours waiting to get it cleared. I swear they send them out and have the wait times so long so people just pay the fine because they don't have the time to sit on hold and they can't afford to pay the late fees or have a flag on their licence at the MVA. I set up auto renew billing for my ez pass. When I got off the parkway in NJ we depleted the money in my account. We got on the turnpike a few minutes later and BAM I got hit with a $103 charge for not having any money in my EZ pass account. About an hour after this all happened I got a confirmation email that my account had been recharged. I got the bill in the mail about a month later. Spent an hour on hold with customer service before a recording informed me it was now after office hours and to try another day. Tried looking for help on the website, submitted a ticket on September 8th but still waiting for a response. Got a letter from a collection agency today about the $103, so I'm back on hold. I'm not at 1 hour and 28 minutes on hold. What is wrong with MD EZPass?! What's the point of auto recharge if it's not automatic?! Too bad there isn't a zero star option. The new vendor has made a poor system even worse. In 2020, over half of my trips over the bay bridge were overcharged (they claimed I had 4 axles vs the actual 3). At least there was a toll dispute button and they gave me a credit within 2-3 days. Now, in 2021, move than 50% of the tolls are wrong. However, the new vendor's system doesn't have a toll dispute button - basically you have to use the contact page and explain which tolls are in error. Well, it's been 2 weeks and the only email I received was one saying they had received my question, and would respond within 3 days. The other thing this new vendor was supposed to implement was the new toll rates for motorcycles and light vehicles towing a trailer (such as a SUV towing a boat). Still no action on that, despite collecting the vehicle type in their new system. I tried calling and doing a chat. What a joke - hundreds of people ahead of you, and once they get around to you, if you don't respond within half a second, they cancel the chat. Oh, and to add the icing to the cake - their new site has a "LOGO" option, rather than a "Log On" option. Didn't anyone do basic quality control before the site went live? read more

Since switching to the new contractor "DriveEZ-Maryland" this is now the worst government agency next to the DMV. The customer service is horrible; you will wait online or on the phone for minimum of 1 hour to talk to anyone, and then they are rude, unhelpful, and unsympathetic regardless of the situation. The new system is non-transparent of fees, locations, policies. They give you a very generalized terms and conditions statement that details in microprint all the ways they will penalize you, but never give you any amounts or specific instruction. The website is extremely limited on information, especially if you log into your account, with NO way to close your account online. If you don't live in Maryland, you MUST use your transponder minimum of 3 times per month, or you will be charges a maintenance fee. Why out of state addresses? Nobody knows. It certainly doesn't cost the agency anything more just because you live out of state. Nobody can answer this question. They say it takes 7 days to get you a transponder, WRONG! Took 3 weeks. Don't know where to return your transponder? Too bad, because there is nothing on their website that says where a location is that you can return it in person, only by mail. Do you even have to return it? I have found vague answers that indicate maybe you should because it contains a hazardous battery or maybe you have to before your account is closed... I don't think ppl realize when they fight the bogus charges and double triple charges their being charge and ez pass gives the money back they add it to your ez pass account. Say they owe you 100 back they add it to your ez pass account that's 30 days in it's cycle and you have 40 in your account already and when they give you back that 100 it's gone right back to them bcuz your account balance has to be used up in 45 days and they take whatever $is leftover in your account. They are getting over on ppl. They aren't refunding the $ to the bank card or whatever card is linked to the account, they will give you the bogus charge $ back to your ez pass account that's ultimately goes right back to them bcuz balances expire in 45 days. So there's no way to take off my vehicle, that's under my name and that I pay for, off of a different account in order to start a new account so that I can pay for tolls. This "service" is the best example of incompetence and arrogance that I have ever had the displeasure to deal with. When I signed up, I clicked the "Baltimore Discount Plan" because, well, that's where I live. Anyway, I clicked it despite the website not actually explaining what the Discount Plan is. I later learned that that plan requires you to use it or lose it. My previous I-Pass in Illinois did not have that ridiculous clause and I mistakenly assumed that Maryland would be the same. Nope. Anyway, I had a $58.80 charge for unused fees and the accompanying $50 replenishment on 4/19/21. I objected to this and called to see what was up. I couldn't get an actual human so I sent an email which was never returned. So I sent a second email that was never returned. I then sent a third which, believe it or not, was never returned. So I called on 5/11 and had the privilege of speaking to "Megan" after spending about 45 minutes on hold who told me "well, you choose that plan, it's your fault". Great customer service. Anyway, I informed her that I did not know of or authorize those fees. She said that that's the way it is. Nothing can be done. So I asked for a "supervisor" and after a nice long hold, spoke with "Gary" who said the exact thing and that was the way it is. Since there is no competition and apparently no consequences for poor service, it will just get worse. They don't care and never will about customer service. Total time on phone: One Hour and seven minutes to just raise my blood pressure and question humanity and fear for our future. I cannot believe that this agency is being run like it is. I went to Court to resolve our problems with the billing and was told AFTER I GOT THERE that I didn't need to be there. They never send statements, just photos and charges. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO RESOLVE ISSUES AND THEY CHARGE TWICE FOR THE SAME TOLL. They charge outrageous late fees before you can get the original toll charge resolved. Drive EZ-MD is not so easy. RE: Case #.s 11088089707 & 11088010727. I have a Hatem Bridge Commuter EZPass on my wife's car I work in NJ so I have a NJ EZPass on my truck. EZPass requires you to register your vehicles on thier tags even is the vehicle isn't assigned the tag. I live in PA. On three occasions my truck is parked in PA with my NJ EZPASS my wife crosses the Hatem Bridge with her car and Hatem EZPass. MD EZPAss ingores her Hatem Bridge commuter pass and charges my NJ EZPASS for three crossings. I speak with them and they say it's my falult for having a NJ EZPASS and they will not refund even though the Hatem pass was in force and they overbilled me. I filed both cases and they closed them without contacting me within the specified 72 hours. I guess they thought I would forget, guess what I didn't and I'm going to follow this through to a refund. read more

Any time I call the wait time is at least an hour which tells me that plenty of other people are also having issues. When I call, I get different information from each person I talk to. Where do I even begin to complain. This is a Racket Money Making Agency. You get billed for video tolls even when you have a valid EZ Pass. This happened two years ago and didn't know it but I had over $2K in fines. When I called to dispute the issue and explain to them that it was linked to an old vehicle but the EZ pass was still valid. So I was double Charged. They told me that day I was give a once in a lifetime waiver down to $250. BUT never received anything else from them to pay this amount. You need to have a Mailer # to pay it but I've never received anything in writing with this mailer # to make a payment online. It's not two years later and I've tried at least 6 times to pay this via their customer service. Who when I get ahold of tells me I still owe the $2200 until I tell them the story in which they then say, Oh yes I do see that now. Had I not pointed out the situation, they would happily have taken the full fee. Now they have put a flag on my car which has caused my registration to expire and while I could pay the fine, I can't get ahold of anyone via customer service to actually make the payment. I do have a full time job and can't wait on hold all day. I've waiting for five hours several times and still not gotten through or better yet, I was disconnected after being connected. It should be illegal to charge $100 late fee for a $6 toll. That's is criminal. People should not be having these issues just to use public roadways and we are forced to go through these toll booths and pay these fees. They did away with all their toll workers, which I'm sure cut their overhead by 80% at least. But they still need to make more money? They send you video tolls so close to the due date and from six months ago that you could possibly be late because often it's only a few days until the pay date but they took six months to process the bill and send it out. How is that right? They can take their good old time billing you but you must send in the money within 7 days. 60 days would be more realistic. Especially for those who on limited income and any unexpected charge would derail them. I plan on writing my senator and seeking legal action and hopefully some new consumer protections can be put into place to protect us and not the agencies. This is very, very unethical business. To "activate" the EZ Pass account I have had for years I had my account number, transponder number, email, username and password ready but still needed a PIN, which I never remember having in the first place. I keep good records: I have my email, username, password, account number and transponder number but no PIN number. Is this Fort Knox? To re-set my PIN number the online prompt tells me it is sending a re-set link to my email account. After three tries, nothing. To get help with re-setting the PIN number I have to call 1-888-321-6824. In order to access the account in the automatic answering system, the PIN number is required. Did EZ Pass Maryland read Catch-22? Because they are very good at setting up catch-22s. I then learn that the systems are busy and I can reserve a place in line to get a call back. So far, nothing. In short, it is impossible to access this new system. I will be contacting my representative about my concerns. read more

I was placed on hold for a 188 minutes wAit time to speak with customer service. I stayed on the phone on hold over 100 minutes of this only to be hung up on. I can't use my EZ pass because my credit changed. They were not able to renew my payment. I can't log into my account to update my card so the payment can be made. I just signed up for EZPASS a couple weeks ago and still haven't received a transponder. I haven't even used it and am being charged $100.00. Looking into the billing these are charges from 2020 that were already paid. I can not get through to a person, I was on the chat live and was 180 in line and went down to 6 - then nothing and that was 2 hours ago. I sent messages as well through my account and no reply. I can't remove my credit card so I had to put a bogus expiration and CVC number so my cards can't be charged for anymore of these charges. I don't want to delete my account until someone answers me. This company is a bunch of incompetent liars. I have been calling for a month now about an error they made. And I keep getting lied to. I was told I would be responded to in 5-7 business days. They never responded and 7 business days was 2 weeks ago. I was then told they never responded because they were too incompetent to open a pdf. This was the type of format they asked for. If you can't open something that you asked for, let me know. I am sure we can find something that you can open. I then sent them multiple other formats over the past 2 weeks and they never once responded. I was then told I would be responded to in 48 hours. That was over 3 days ago. I have called them 6 times and sent 3 emails over the course of a month. By this incompetence all they achieve is taking advantage of innocent people. They need to stop lying.
