I took my first-time driver's license test, and it went pretty well. Everyone was really nice, but the actual person in the car with me was lowkey rude. He was clearly not having a good day, and in the middle of driving he said, "This is a driving test pick up the pace." Like TFFFF what do you mean pick up the pace??? Anyway, I did make a few mistakes one because there was a blind spot, and another because I missed a speed bump. Thankfully, he still gave me my license. But I don't know... I get that they're supposed to be intimidating, but that was kind of weird lol. read more

This location for MVA is terrible. If you are new to Maryland and you are there to do everything that you need in one visit this is not the location to go to. They are not helpful, they make it harder, it's hard to hear them through the glass because there's music playing that's very loud and the number of people at this location was insane. I had an appointment and I still waited 45 minutes before my number was called and I was there on time. And then I had to go to another queue for other things to be accomplished and because the MVA system that I had made my appointment with didn't tell me that I needed additional paperwork filled out I then had to fill it out standing up in the back of the center and then figure out how to be added back into the queue to be called again. Then I waited another 45 minutes for them to tell me additional information that I didn't know and wasn't aware of to begin with. The MVA website is lacking too but the personnel at this location generally was terrible. The next time I need to go to an MVA location it will not be this one ever again. The runaround that I received here was terrible, the misinformation that I received when I came back to get my registration taken care of at a kiosk after I had completed my state inspection was wrong. I wasted a trip, I wasted time, valuable time. I don't recommend going to this location for anything you need to do regarding registering your car, getting a driver's license, taking care of your title, or anything else. There are much better locations to go to outside of this Baltimore City location. read more

From fast check in to faster being seen, the people at this location have upped their game. Forms are available online as are appointments. I didn't use those features and was still in and in front of one of their agents within 5 minutes. Everyone there is working hard. While it took 3 trips to get the thing done I needed (the issues were on me not them) I was met each time with friendly smiles and hard working public workers. Kudos to the entire team. All add that decades ago I came here when we first moved to Maryland and that experience was really different and not in good ways since then I've gone to other locations but this time around I came here. 5 stars all around. read more

Despite inside staff all being professional and helpful, the driving-skills test administrator used verbally abusive and even threatening language throughout a ride that was quiet, respectful, and error-free on the part of the driver. Unless you want your new driver to be yelled at and feel unsafe, pick another location. read more

Did I just get profiled and discriminated for being non-black? Girl at window #3 was angry, bitter since the minute I arrived to her window, would not look at me in the eye. She was playing on her phone the whole time she was talking to me. She would reply with cynicism and bitterness. I kept my cool and was very relaxed filling out my forms while she was ambiguous on purpose on what I was suppose to turn in. She asked for my odometer reading which I didn't have with me but told her I could get it as my car was outside. Suddenly, in the middle of me filling out the forms, she said somebody else will be helping me and my number will be "recirculated". I was puzzled but asked her questions like how long before they call me, etc., she was very vague. As I was about ready to get up from my chair, I saw a monitor next to me with a quick survey. It had three emojis: one super happy, the second was blah, and the third had a frown. Well, as she was dismissing me passionately, I decided to click on the survey. I filled it out right in front of her and chose the frown faces, meaning service was unsatisfactory. I thanked her for her time and she continued being sarcastic. As I was leaving I asked her, "are you having a good day"? She responded with even more sarcasm, continued talking but I was not longer listening. I said goodbye, dropped the pen on the counter and smiled as I was leaving. As I was going outside to get my odometer reading, another lady, apparently a 'supervisor' (rolling my eyes as I say this!), stopped me with a ubiquitous scream of "SIR!!! SIR!!! ..." I stopped calmly to listen to her. She said something about the security officers, I told her I'm going outside to get my odometer reading. She said I couldn't leave. Oh so now I'm being detained??? She escorted me to two security officers who decided to question me. Really!?!? .. During the meeting with the security officers, this lady told both of them that I had thrown the pen at the other lady on window #3, that she 'saw the whole thing' and that the pen 'landed on the floor'. Whaaaaaaaaaa??? .. This made me giggle a bit, and I told the security officers it wasn't true. The officers told me I had to leave. I explained I needed to register my car still, and was on my way out to get my odometer reading. They said "well we don't want you here". Wow.. just wow!! I was the only non-black person in the place. And ironically I have been a staunch ally of the BLM movement, I live in Baltimore City and previously lived in Detroit City. I told them I needed to register my car. They said I needed to come back tomorrow, but not today. I asked then if there was a main manager so I could speak to them. When I spoke to the manager, the manager seemed to understand me a little. I told him what happened, and I was upset over the treatment. He realized he had some bad apples in his facility and told me I could continue processing my registration in a different window. From hereon both the manager and the girl at window #6 facilitated me getting my registration and license plates. All I can say ...... I will NEVER set foot in this place again, enough BS! As soon as my lease expires, I'm moving OUT of Baltimore City (as everyone else has suggested!) as I'm not fine with being profiled/discriminated. I don't belong in this 'third-world' type of town, but they can keep it and I'm very fine with that! read more

I took my niece to MVA to take her drivers test they wouldn't allow her because I have a light tint on my windshield stating it is in their policy. I looked up the policy, and it isn't in there. A lot of people would be surprised to hear that this place provided my best DMV experience of all time. I have been to DMV's in many states. They have all been barely tolerable or worse. This was not one of those experiences. I got in very quickly. In fact, I got in early. The person helping me was incredibly helpful and friendly. I was also impressed that every single booth has the Dorsey, to take photos for licenses. I used to go to a very large DMV in California and you had to wait in line to get your picture taken. People in every state complain that their DMV is the worst in the nation, but from my experience this was one of the best. Not just relatively speaking. I had a great experience. read more

I thought the weather outside was hell, being 90+ degrees everyday. This location of the MVA would be the exact definition of hell. Seriously. Check Webster. I'll wait. While waiting, I'll be in the mile long line for the information desk. I decided to leave the line (after claiming my spot) to ask an attendant where can I go to get a new license. I've searched the MVA site, I've called, everyone says it must be done in person. I'm here. Where do I go? The lady instructs me to do it at the kiosk and points me to another mile long line. I'm not waiting there. I go to another attendant and she actually takes her time to listen to what I need done. I have not lost my current license. My current license has my old address. I need a new one with my new address. Comprende? So this attendant tells me I need to go to the kiosk but the one outside (in the 100 degree weather) has a shorter line. So I go outside. And wait. And wait. Oh her card is declining. And I'm waiting. If you're dropping off your tags, just put them in the box. And I wait. It's my turn! All of that for the machine not to feature the service that I want. "This can only be completed in person at one of our MVA locations. Please call 1-800-MVA-SUCKS blah blah blah." Needless I say, I had to go back inside, wait some more, eventually meet with someone, take a picture, and voila. New license. read more

First of all I'm giving one star for the early hours. I took my daughter here to get her drivers permit. Our wait was three and a half hours. The employees weren't mean and seemed to be helpful in the midst of the chaos. I chose to go here 3pm in which I will NEVER do this again. Pros: Parking is tight but there is a back parking lot available. Some of the employees are helpful. Cons: LONG wait times No seats when crowded. Not enough employees. It's the MVA (DMV depending on where you live) and I thought I was going to be in for a never-ending bureaucratic nightmare. The experience was not as bad as I thought, but let me preface by saying I was registering my vehicle and getting a drivers license because I recently relocated from out of state. I did run into so bureaucracy, but people were nice about getting me the information I needed, to get things done without running around too much. The MVA branch also has kiosks that allow you to do certain things without having to wait for a customer service agent. Go online and find out as much as you can before you go, it may save you some time as well. The lines moved fast, but know what side you need to sit on or you may not hear your number being called. read more

I had to go to the MVA to renew my license and I was absolutely dreading it. But I made an appointment online and made sure to get in the right line for "online appointments" **I can't stress this enough! Make sure you're in the right line, you don't want to be there for hours in the wrong place**. With only 5 people in front of me, my wait was not bad at all! Maybe 10-15 min. Which is nothing compared to the line next to me for the non-appointment people that was probably a few hours long! Once I got my papers checked and got a number, I went to have a seat to wait. I was sitting there for maybe 5 min if that before I got called! This was the best experience I've ever had at a MVA / ever heard of! **Make an appointment! You won't regret it!!! **Also make sure you have all your papers people!! Don't even go if you don't have them! **Stand in the right line! If you have doubts, ask someone that works there! read more

We popped in here so my daughter could update her license to conform to the new REAL ID mandate. Surprisingly the wait was not long, the clerk that saw us was nice enough to let us know how to use the in-house printer to get a document that we were short of and once we obtained that document we did not have to get back in the line but come directly back to her. So even with that slight little snag on OUR part, the overall experience on that day (11/04/2019) was pretty decent. I know we won't always get that same rep when we go back, but if I could always go to her, I would, she was pleasant and helpful and it actually felt like she liked her job. The woman at counter #19 (reistertown road branch) brown skin, glasses is incredibly disrespectful and unhelpful. She belittled us and spoke to us incredibly harshly. This was uncalled for. Please do not have individuals who are unable to be friendly work in a customer service capacity. I've never been spoken to like this and it truly has ruined the taste of this MVA in my mouth. Speedy (enough) service, and the benefit of being attached to a strip mall that includes Ez Insurance and a Subway, in case your wait is long. Self-serve kiosks are kind of hidden as you have to go through the line at information before you see them, or else they would be helpful. I went here with Robin to get MY MD drivers license. It is a lot different than Arizona, (where I have had a license for years). We had all the documents that were required JUST to get a license. My social security card, our lease with my name on it too, a utility bill here with my name on it too and my Birth certificate . I was waiting for blood type and what type of books I read!! lol I digress....so all that was ready for them. We took a number and were G78. They were on G63. The line moved quickly. After a reasonable amount of time...we were called to a window. We gave all the documents to the lady, and she asked me some questions. Then she asked if I had a CDL. I explained I did, but I gave it up when I started working for the State of AZ in Corrections. She said they had to contact the place to verify something, because I was coming up a "stop." . She said we will call you up....same number...and get you out of here. So we went to sit down.....time went by......we hear "G78". We are at the window like rocket ships!! I sit down, and the lady says...."what can I do for you"... THIS....was the look I gave her...@___@.. We went though the whole story....got out all my documents re filled out things....took another picture.....and were told... .Oh there is a stop....let me contact Glen Bernie MD. Go sit down for a few minutes, we will call you back up, and that will be it. So we sat again......same number G78. We got called up again.....and the lady knew we had been there...for hours. SHE problem solved the issue, and in 15 minutes we were on our way. The reason they get two stars is NOT because anyone was rude ....but because a customer should never have to wait for hours, re do the SAME thing three times, and no one take the initiative to REALLY figure out what was going on. I gave up my CDL 8 years ago....because I was working for the State of Arizona. Both easily verified. I get the security....but seriously....if I were a bad person, I just would have left........ not sat there for 4 hours. I went in for my license renewal and the lady sitting at the desk was not courteous at all. She would not look at my face and ignored my questions. She told me that the application was not going through and would not tell me what is happening and then she got up and went to talk to someone. Came back and started typing something in. And I am still unaware of what is happening. Then all that she does is point at the pin pad indicating that I should sign it. And then pointed at the pin pad again indicating that I must swipe my card. This is when I realized the application went through. Neither times did she look at me nor did she use her words to communicate with me. And I was the second person at her desk as I went in really early. I can only imagine how she would get by the end of the day. The least we could do is smile and be courteous. Specially someone that is sitting at a desk helping people. I like the MVA in Columbia, MD. People there are friendly, helpful and definitely way more informed. read more

I arrived here on a Friday morning around 815 and there was already a line about 30 ppl! I was expecting to be there for hours but to my surprise, they were quite efficient. Horrible! Went there at 9:00'clock this morning expecting to wait. Today is Monday, so I had realistic expectations that I'd be there a few hours. My complaint isn't about the wait time. It's about the incompetence of their staff. I bounced from counter to counter, holding ticket after ticket only to be returned to the original counter 3 hours later. I didn't leave until a little after 12:30. The guard who was supposed to be by the door spent his time circling the counters talking to girls. I'm all for "flirting," but not at the expense of my time. Flirt on your lunch or bathroom break like everybody else. read more

In and out in 30 to 45 minutes tops. My wife got her ID and I got my MD driver's license. It's a hit or miss thing with most government offices. I've been to California DMVs and it's just about the same. Today it was a hit! We got there around 1:45pm, got our numbers, and we were called after about 15 minutes and the lady began processing my wife's ID. Unfortunately the computers crashed; nobody's fault but of course you hear the customary groans. She informed us of other documents needed for our transaction, so we decided to go home. We got our stuff and took a chance that they would be online again. My wife went back to the same window, same lady, and she finished the process, no need to wait in line again. My number was re-entered and I got called after five minutes. Fifteen minutes later, I got my new MD license. read more

The good thing is that you can make an appointment. You go online and schedule a date and time you want to be there. They will also let you know exactly what you need to bring in order to get your mission accomplished. Very easy to use and had me pretty excited. The bad thing is the appointment doesn't mean anything. They make you wait in the same lines and tell you the scheduled time means nothing to them. I am really thinking this is not true. Well!! Ummm who really loves mva!! The wait is long!! I mean long! Lol!!!! So you wait in line to wait to be seen ,to pay them , and to wait again!! I believe Maryland gov can do better, maybe by hiring more staff! It's unreal for someone to sit here for hours!! I took my drivers test and passed almost 4 weeks ago and I still haven't got me license. I went to 4 different post offices to find whoever was supposed to sent out my license and got no results. I went back to the MVA and after they told me I was supposed to wait 5 to 6 business days for it in the mail, they then told me that 20 days later that it was delivered and sent back to the post office the same day. And then proceeded to charge me $16 to get another license. I've never been so disappointed in public service in my whole life. Ever. It's incredibly asinine to send out identification if inconveniences like this will happen. read more

Since moving to Maryland a short time ago, I've had to come to this place several times for my plates, registration and license. Those experiences were actually very good. It's an orderly and timely process to get done what you need and the associates were nice and helpful. When my husband came to Maryland and took his test to get his license, again the initial part of the process was orderly, timely and the people were nice and helpful. We really appreciated it, we know how it can be to deal with people all day. However, all that customer service went out the window when he went to take his driving test. It seems like there are only two people, two women who provide the test. One is generally nice and professional, the other one is not professional at all. The first time my husband tried to take the test I watched on and within four minutes the test was over. When it was over rather than driving the car back to where the test started like the other associate did, she got out of the car in the middle of test area and just left the door open and walked over to her own car and started to leave. Neither I nor my husband knew what happened. She was on her cell phone and the second test provider asked what happened, I told her I didn't know. She asked the other associate, who yelled from her car while she was still on the phone over to our car which was still sitting in test zone area, "He didn't pass. He didn't follow the guide painted on the street, he has to follow all of the traffic signals, not just the rode signs. I told him he didn't pass, he probably didn't hear me." My husband told me she ignored three phonecalls and took the last phonecall when she was in the car and they she was providing instructions but mumbling and he asked her again was she had said and she mumbled again. When she was done failing him, they closed the test zone for the day. It was 4:15ish. I realized his test had started just as they close for the day at 4:30 and she wanted to go home. So we rescheduled for a week later, got the same woman. She did nearly the same thing except for taking for phonecalls. She just abruptly got out of the car in the middle of the test zone when determined he didn't pass. She didn't drive the car back to the start, didn't explain to him that he didn't pass or why. We rescheduled at Glen Burnie the next week and he passed. Glen Burnie had a good handful of people providing tests. They were both courteous and extremely professional. As I, generally speaking, all those folks working at the desks inside were nice, the process is orderly and quick enough. But the driving test experience was abysmal. This woman doesn't need to be working at the MVA if she can't do better than this. For one it reflects, poorly on her peers who have their crap together because this easily could have been a five-star rating had it not been for this woman. For two, don't treat people like this. If you don't like your job, get a different one. Either way, we'll take ourselves over to Glen Burnie for whatever else we need concerning the car. read more

So I ended up at the MVA because I left State Farm Insurance and went to Geico insurance. It was a no brainer decision Geico took a few hundred dollars off my car insurance and there homeowner insurance was cheaper too and they offered more. So I'm trying to make this long story short but in a few words at 53 years old this decision was a smart one but State Farm was angry when I left and fine me with The MVA staying that I had no coverage when I did because they gave me a one day grace period but in there words only for there Company. I'm not angry I paid the 150.00 fine and at my age You gotta pick your battles but The MVA was gracious in trying to assist me in this situation and I thank them but the next time I change to a cheaper car insurance I won't be in a grace period. read more

This is the second time I've been here and both times I've been impressed with how friendly and helpful the workers have been. There's a worker that greets you at the door (kinda like at Walmart). As you stand in the information line, there was a lady who asked you why you were there and made sure you had all the correct forms and then directed you to where you needed to go - if she could. I was directed to the self-serve kiosk to complete my registration and there was a worker there to help me. These jobs must be so mindnumbingly boring but everyone was fairly animated. Super smooth experience and really efficient service! I needed to obtain a Maryland driver's license, so I made an appointment ahead of time, and there were lots of available times starting the next day. When I arrived, I was checked in within 5 minutes and then my number was called within 10 minutes. From there, it took less than 10 minutes to have my paperwork processed and take a quick eye exam. I asked if I could also register my vehicle at the same time and they told me I could with the same appointment number, but by a different person. I went back to wait, but less than 5 minutes later, I was being helped again. All told, I was there less than 40 minutes and left with a temporary license and 2 new license plates. read more
