According to their website, as of 2024 their frequency has scaled back due to lack of funding. It used to run almost every hour, beginning at 4am. The first stop is off QO #124/MVA AVE.. Then it heads out to Shady Grove metro... on the weekends it starts at 4am... if you miss that.. the next one is 8am, 9am, 10am etc. Its about an hour ride to BWI airport. From BWI to Shady Grove on the weekends first trip is 10am, 1pm 2pm 3pm etc.. Last bus leaves 10pm.... From my experience its important to get their at least 15 minutes. Some drivers are not predictable but all are courteous and friendly. Its still $6 They also have stops at Arundel Mills/ Maryland live... Maybe one day they'll increase their frequency. read more

The #201 is the most affordable way to get to BWI (short of bumming a ride from a friend) but you get what you pay for. There are only two pick-up/drop-off points and they're at opposite ends of the airport, near the Southwest Airlines terminal and the International Terminal. (And during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season, they inexplicably closed the Southwest terminal stop, forcing people to run a mile through the airport to catch their flight or the incoming 201 bus - lest they be forced to wait a full hour for the next one). The drive to and from Shady Grove takes at least an hour, despite the advertised "express" service. It stops at Arundel Mills Mall and at a couple of park-and-ride lots along the way (which really doesn't make much sense as some of those lots have "No Overnight Parking" signs posted, which doesn't help those who can't fly out and back in a single day). The buses are operated by a private contractor, so while some of them are plastered with MTA and BWI airport advertising, others may have Coach USA, Atlantic Coast Charters, or a Jersey seashore wrap, so don't be confused if a tour bus tries to pick you up and you're not ready to be whisked away to some exotic locale. The fare is $5 per person, cash or credit (as of 2019, they still won't accept SmartTrip or CharmCards, despite earlier promises), with a discount for seniors and free fares for infants and toddlers. Some of the buses are equipped with onboard wi-fi, but like the Megabus to NY, service is spotty at best and you might be better off using your own 4G connection. Another amenity is the chemical toilet at the rear of the bus, especially if you over-hydrated yourself during a long flight. But like I said, you can't expect too many amenities on a $5 bus ride! read more

Cheap ($5) and predictable way to get to various places in suburban Maryland outside of DC from BWI. Friday evening bus arrived 14 minutes late and ended up 17 minutes behind schedule at my final destination. Sunday evening bus to BWI right on time. Wifi onboard worked but quite slow. Luggage is accommodated in overhead area or under the passenger cabin, loaded in and out by bus driver. Look for a coach or similar style bus. 2 pickup points at airport: Southwest and International, which is outside baggage claim exit door 18. $5 cash onboard, Charm card app on phone worked as well read more

This service is an efficient, inexpensive way to get from upper Montgomery County to BWI. This is our third time using the MTA Route 201 bus that travels the ICC to get to BWI and other areas. For us we were traveling from Gaithersburg to BWI for a flight and the bus was: 1. On time 2. Comfortable 3. Cheap ($5 CASH only each way) I posted a photo here on Yelp as we were unsure of which area to wait (while we were at BWI) to catch the bus. It comes every hour but we didn't want to miss it and then have to wait another hour. To pick up the bus, go outside the baggage claim area (we were on Southwest and headed out door #18), cross the street, head left, and it is almost near the end of the waiting area, near the sign that says Regional Bus Stop #1. See the photo I posted. This is one place to catch the shuttle and there was one more area that the bus picks up riders from BWI that we saw after we boarded. read more

Very convenient and cheap fare ($5 each way) to get from Shady Grove metro to BWI and vice versa in about an hour. Finding the stops at both locations is a little confusing, but once you know where they are then it's fine. Tip: From BWI - pick-up is outside door 18 on the baggage claim level. The bus is very clean and no one stole my luggage. read more

It drops you off right at the terminal.....no dealing with paying for the ICC or parking across the solar system and running to your gate..... Cost? psssttttt lean CLOSER...... $5 one way...... I took the bus from the first stop to BWI on Tuesday, 9/12/17. Or tried to. Bus's AC was broken. At Shady Grove the driver saw there was no air in the brakes. 40 min later we were on a different bus and finally on the way to the airport again. THEN on 9/19/17 I tried to catch the 6:05 pm back. I was at the stop 20-25 minutes early. Bus NEVER showed up. I finally got on the 7:05pm -- it was not the 6:05 arriving late because the driver said he was on time for his run. The return bus stop was a long way from where luggage pickup was and the driver hadn't told us where to get it. (I asked someone at the desk) Calling was not useful. MTA directed me to the # of the charter company where I got an answering machine with a full mail box. MTA then stopped answering phones at 7pm. Not worth the money savings. Next time I'll drive to the airport. read more

This is the cheapest ($5, vs $50 for carshare and vanpool), quickest way to get from northwest DC (Gaithersburg and Shady Grove Metro red line) to Baltimore Airport! In my time taking this bus in 2017, it's always been on time and very punctual, with plenty of space (it never gets to be more than half full during the times I've traveled, which includes peak travel periods). The bus is a comfortable commuter bus similar to coach tour buses, with individual lights, high seats for everyone, and a restroom in the back. The others on board are courteous and respectful. I recently relocate to the D(M)V area and was doing a lot of traveling from BWI. I was spending too much money on gas and parking. Long story short this service has been extremely convenient. I use the Gaithersburg park and ride location to the BWI airport. It cost $5 each way so $10 round trip, the bus also stops at multiple park and rides, the Arundel Mills Mall, the Amtrak/ Marc stop near BWI and the airport to name a few. I've only use this service for the airport so that is what my review is based on. They only stop at the Southwest Airlines departure and only pick up Down Stairs at the Door 1 bus area pass the Starbucks. (Once outside you will see 3 different waiting areas the route 201 is the very last one closest to the entrance of the area. There are sign with the different bus routes) The times can be found on their website or you can search for Maryland 201 bus route. I only gave this a 4 star because my first time using the service going back to the park and ride I wasn't sure where the pick up location was so I called the bus service and was told to go back where the bus drop me off. I waited there and when the bus arrived, the driver told me I was at the wrong place and I had missed the other bus because it was down stairs. They usually arrive every hour on the hour at the airport so I had to wait another hour to get back. I was pretty salty lol, but I hope this will help someone else that will use this service. The MTA bus stops at BWI are at the beginning of the Southwest terminal and the end of the international terminal. The signage for this stop nor the directions on the MTA website are very clear as to where the stops at the BWI terminal are. I kinda figured out where the MTA stops are based on the terminal map on the BWI website. Then I stopped at the "i" desk and asked. The lady told me exactly where it was. It shouldn't be this difficult to find out the stop locations in advance. The MTA website should say they are across from arrivals door x and door 18.(18 is the actual door for the international terminal. BTW, the bus is awesome, super-convenient. It was running 16 minutes late, but that was rush hour. read more

Every time I head to BWI, I park my car at the ICC lot on Ga Ave, Silver Spring, MD, and take the Route 201 bus to BWI. The $5.00 fee ($4.00 for seniors). Let that sink in a minute. Free parking and a $5 bus fee with only two or three quick stops along the way. Love it, love it! Also most of the drivers are quite friendly and helpful, bus is clean, and overall great service! read more

Such a great way to get to BWI at a fraction of the cost of driving, tolls and parking. Seems to always be running on time, and the drivers know how to get around BW corridor traffic at rush hour by trying 29, 95 and 295 depending on the day and traffic conditions. read more

Just wanted to write an update...watch your bags. I had to put my carry-on in the cargo hold under the bus when getting on at BWI (I watched the bus driver put it on). When I got to the Gaithersburg stop (and I was the last one on the bus), my suitcase was GONE! No one ever turned it in and I filed a police report -- it's been four months and I had all sorts of personal information in it since it was a carry-on. Beware!! read more
