Could it be anything worse than water penetrating your house ? Yes, when the water destroys your new, very expensive wooden floors. That is what happened to us last winter after the heavy rains. We tried any imaginable "experts" for help - plumber, civil engineer, foundation contractor. They all came over, examined a problem and each suggested different fixes (sealing foundation, installing sump pump, etc) but NOBODY was sure what is the source of the problem. Finally I called Edwin. He showed up, and after 10 min or so suggested that problem was a leaking siding in one of the walls. To prove this he did a water test of the wall and sure enough - water started leaking on the floor. After that it was simple - Edwin replaced the siding of the wall and also sealed the minor cracks on other wall. After completion he water-tested the wall again - NO LEAKS. I am so happy to be able to finally write a great review for Edwin and his crew. I hired him last fall to repair some cracks in our stucco, but mainly to clean and seal the slate on our front porch and walkway. The work was done promptly and with great attention to detail, but an unfortunate choice of top coat (which he chose to add later, to make me happy when I commented that the sealer he had used had not added the shine I had hoped for) ended up not working out well. The top coat immediately became discolored and gray in some areas, giving the whole project a very disappointing appearance. Edwin immediately promised that he would fix the problem and make me happy with the work, but that it would take some time due to his other projects as well as the impending rains. It took a little bit of follow up for me to get him back out but he upheld his end of the bargain and removed the top coat, adding another coat of the original sealer. While the appearance is still not shiny, I realize that might not have been an option with the kind of stone I have and I am now very happy with the clean and natural appearance. I can see that it is working to repel the water from my porch so it doesn't seep in and damage the sub-structure, which was my main concern. Overall I am very happy with the work Edwin did. He is an extremely hard-working and trustworthy professional, with equally good guys working for him. I would not hesitate to hire him again in the future. read more

We hired Edwin and his company to do repairs on a rental unit in Berkeley. We had a hundred year old lead toilet drain fail which caused significant water damage to the ceiling in the kitchen of the unit below. After the water damaged drywall was removed by a specialty firm (due to lead/asbestos/mold concerns), we had a very hard time finding a contractor to do the actual repairs. Many firms we called did not even bother to return our calls and several were too busy to take on what for them was a small job. Of those who did come out to bid on the job, Edwin was not the lowest bidder, but he was the one who showed the most interest in the job. He asked lots of questions about what we needed to have done and provided answers about what additional steps would be needed so the repairs would be up to code. We had insisted up front that everything would have to be done with permits and pass the City of Berkeley inspections. Due to his schedule we did have to wait about 10 days or so before he could start. As requested he did get the necessary permit from the City of Berkeley and as required met each of the city inspections. He did have to devise a solution for reinforcing a floor joist through which the passage for the repaired drain had to be enlarged and the city approved his solution. The only problem we had was because he had other jobs going at the same time, he brought in someone not part of his regular crew to do the actual drain repair. That initial repair was not satisfactory to Edwin. He took responsibility for that problem and had one of his regular employees redo it properly the next day. Once the plumbing repairs were completed and inspected, the ceiling was repaired, taped (and inspected), and painted. In summary, Edwin and company did an excellent job and if I can get management approval for a few other projects, I would not hesitate to hire him again. read more
