Family run, with the owner managing, bussing, chatting, taking orders and doing it all in the dining room like it's his own house. Always had the warmest welcome here - the first time, we were given complimentary bread pudding made by his mom to go, and the second time he was showing us photos of his baby daughter on his phone. Perfect old London interior, lots of decorative wood, tables crammed into a tiny space with people crammed around them. Still run by an East End Italian family, fine when the guy tells you all about 'Mum's minestrone' you know it's a bit fake, put on cos people lap up that kind of 'authenticity' but when he remembers you after only your first visit it is genuine and when he manages to find space for all 7 of us from work, even though it's packed and tiny, it really brings home the idea of good service. Aside from the cheeky chappy banter, which is certainly half the experience, the food is really tasty, a mix of old English caff stodge and Italian comfort food and it's pretty cheap. All meals are massive and almost all cost between 5 and 6 pounds. The lasagne is a huge bowl of cheesy deliciousness while pie and mash is drowning in gravy and broccoli cheese. Pellicci's, on Bethnal Green Road, is the best cafe in London, if not the entire world. Since 1900, the Pellicci family, many of whom were born in the room upstairs, have been running this tiny art-deco cafe for locals, taxi drivers, showbiz types, and the rest of us. The breakfasts are without peer in their authenticity. It's like going home for a fry-up, with cockney-Italian banter thrown in. You can imagine Michael Caine walking in at any moment. This has become my favorite, goto breakfast spot in London. The place is cozy and tucked into Bethnal Green. It was filled with locals and regulars talking about the latest football match when I entered, but I was able to grab a table and fit right in. The owners were kind and friendly. The coffee was fantastic, the food was delicious, and the prices were great. I'll be returning on future visits to London. I'm just sorry that I didn't discover this gem earlier! read more

E.Pellicci is the best place I've ever been to the morning after a big night out. It's not often you have to queue for a table at a greasy spoon but it's well worth the wait, even if it's so tightly packed you could almost pass the ketchup to everyone else in the place. With over a hundred years of history and being run by the same family, it's a unique combination of 50s Italian deco and several generations of Italo-Cockney staff - who make really make the place what it is by making you feel so welcome. This is no fine cuisine, but what they do serve - English breakfasts (& homemade chips), sandwiches and roast dinners - they do very well, especially the former. They have an illustrious list of former clients, most famously the Kray twins and I can also reliably inform that Dave Gorman is one of their many regulars - once you visit it's easy to become one (although it's not advised if you have heart problems). The impressive wood panelled interior is now grade 2 listed, unchanged since the 50s it's remarkably well preserved - but is just one of countless reasons you really have to visit Pellicci's. read more

One of my favorite places I visited on my last trip to London. Nevio was our server and he was incredibly friendly and definitely left a lasting impression on me. Saw this listed in Serious Eats best place for an English breakfast and it was one of the best I've had. Food, service, and experience were perfect! (eye-talian) family run caff since 1902, so small you wouldn't believe; signora Pellcci Senior is still the chef in command; son Nevio and a team of slim british italian (relatives?) run the deck. Food is the usual mix of caff foods from english breakfast to sunday roast with the italian spaghetti and lasagne. Generous portions, tiny prices, friendly service (couldn't be any friendlier), tiny room. When a patron asked Nevio why they don't buy the shop next door and knock down the wall, Nevio replied something about the fact that money isn't everything. This place has the buzz of those italian pasticcerie in Hoboken New Jersey. If you are in London don't miss this place and don't miss the vibrant multi ethnic alternative area, millions of miles away from touristic london. read more

Apparently the greasy spoon of the Kray twins, this is my favourite local cafe. The fry up is second to none, with really good quality sausages and bacon, and you can swap any of the ingredients for anything on their list for no cost at all. The pasta is amazing too, but what makes this place particularly special are the amazing Cockney/Italian family that run the place. E Pellicci is a charming little cafė that has been open for over a century. It was one of the few options on Bethnal Green Road that served more than the standard English breakfast. After searching all over for a lighter breakfast my companion and I decided that E Pellicci was the best option. We were lucky to get a table outside considering it was Saturday and the place was completely packed, which should be expected. It was one of the few places on the road that was always packed with locals whenever I passed it. The man who served us who I believe was part of the family was very kind and helpful. They only accept cash so my companion had to run down to a shop to get money out of an ATM machine. The prices are very reasonable. I had such a delicious ciabatta, fresh mozzarella, tomato and basil sandwich. It was so huge that I could only manage to eat 1/3 of it. It was nice to be able to relax and chat without having any of the staff rush us considering how popular the cafė is. Whenever I'm in London I will definitely stop here! read more

This place was so much fun! My husband and I went here while on vacation in London in May. We happened to be staying in the Bethnal Green area and had many people recommend it to us for a traditional English breakfast, which is similar to American just with grilled tomatoes, beans, and mushroom. Upon entering it seemed very small and homey, just a few tables and a few staff. They were the nicest people! They were having loud conversations across the restaurant with guests and interacting with everyone- half speaking Italian. It made us feel like we were locals! They showed us a photo album of all the famous people that had been there before, and while leaving, the nice lady packed up some bread pudding and said that her grandmother made it this morning and sent it home with us for free! Overall I really treasured this experience and felt like I was off the beaten path and met some wonderfully friendly people! read more

Perfect for a good value fry up. It's quite busy as it is very popular - we had to wait 15 mins to get a seat inside, but that was at 11am - but it's busy for good reason. It's a great local caff, the people who run it are friendly, you can make your own breakfast out of all the various items, and for London it's a great price for the quality. Ok, so the wife and me stayed at Brentwood for a couple of days. Although we now live in Somerset, we were both born in this area. We visit quite often but never have we been in Pellicci's. This time we did. What an experience ! As we went in we were immediately guided to a table where somebody was eating. This made the atmosphere complete because although nobody knew each other we all appeared to be old friends with wonderful smiles and good old Cockney banter. The staff were so friendly and cheerful it made you want to stay. A truly wonderful place to have a meal. As for the food, it was lovely. The price was amazing and the cafe itself was very clean and tidy. This is a beautiful little eating place that I will come to again and again and again. I can't explain how the feeling of this place sticks in your head. How I wish I had known about Pellicci's before. read more
