Ace Hardware - A more complex extraction. Ground a slot in the exposed bolt and a flat Craftsman screwdriver did the trick.

I don't just recommend this place, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. I am new to the area and had a…read moredog pen gate latch failure. So I was in search of a very specific (5/16" x 6-1/2" long galvanized carriage) bolt along with galvanized washers and nuts. My online searches left we with the option of ordering single pieces from a supplier in Edison, NJ, which were reasonably priced before insane shipping and handling charges were added and then waiting up to 14 days for delivery. Not really an option!, Then there was the option of buying a box of 50 of each on Amazon and having it delivered in 6 and 3/4 minutes. Lol!!! While delivery time and selection were great, I would have paid 20x more than needed for 48 extra pieces that I'd likely never need. So what to do... I searched Google AI and it suggested the ACE Hardware affiliated Camden Builder's Supply. Ample parking in their private lot, easy access to the store and from the minute I walked in, I was impressed. I looked some random stuff in the aisles as I searched out the hardware section. Along came an employee named Mike. He asked if I needed help and I told him what I was in search of. Off we went to their drawers of hardware items. They had an awesome selection, unfortunately, their sizes went up to 6" and that was it. Mike recommended trying Lowe's. In conversation, he offered some other ideas that might resolve my stripped out bolt issue. Thinking it through with his input, I picked up two different lengths of (I believe 5/16") sheet metal type lag bolts. While they were t self tapping, I didn't necessarily need self tappers as the existing bolt stripped out of a hole in the welded 1" square tube steel gate frame. A thicket coarse threaded similar type bolt might just cut through and open the existing hole enough to bite. It was worth a try and I planned to hit Lowe's as suggested too. Additionally, while I was there, I had a broken heavy duty grade bolt from my Husqvarna zero turn. Two of the four bolts on that part of the frame broke like brittle glass. Very strange, but a total of three bolts on that machine with only 85 hours on the clock have broken since about 20 hours on the clock. Mike took my broken bolt which happened to have with me. He sized it and got me two replacement Grade 8 bolts. All said and done, I was out the door with my needed hardware items for $4.97 and a wealth of helpful information Mike threw in for free. I was beyond pleased and appreciative of the service, information and price. I will define back for my hardware needs in the future. PS - I did stop at Lowe's on my was home. I picked up everything I originally set out for, at a cost of $34+. Unfortunately the carriage bolt selection jumped from 6" to 8" so I got two 8" bolts, with the intention of cutting them down to size. A minor complication but just one more thing on top of having to drill through 6" of material. As it turned out, within about 5 minutes of returning home, I was able to bolt in one of the new larger diameter bolts I bought from Michael into the fence and it is better than new!!! Additionally, one of the two broken zero turn bolts extracted rather easily and was replaced in less than 20 minutes. The other needs some heat and knock'er loose. Thank you so much Camden Builder's Supply and Michael.

It is always these rundown looking buildings that have so many great things inside…read more After the fiasco at Lowe's my father recommended we stop at Camden Builder's Supply, which is now affiliated with Ace Hardware. He apparently shopped for building supplies here back in the stone age when he was working at Dupont after college. Unlike Lowes, we were greeted within ten seconds. The guy knew exactly what we wanted and knew where it was. Everyone here looked like they had worked here or in some related industry for at least twenty years and knew what they were talking about. It was a great experience and there is no doubt as to why this place has been open for at least forty years if not more.
