Good gravy people! Some of you are acting like you want to NOT have anyone to EVER help you! If that is the case...GO TO LOWES! They will be happy to NOT give you any assistance, and they hire plenty of people who have no earthly idea how to do anything other than play on their phones. E&T Hardware is a gem! Elgin is lucky to have a great place where we can go get what we need quickly and have people there who know what they are talking about. And so, some of the prices, not all, but some are a little more than the big box stores. The way I look at it is, my time is worth more than saving a few bucks here or there. I value my time and will continue to give E&T first shot at just about everything I need and only go to Lowes or HD when either E&T does not have what I need or the price is such that I have no other choice.

However, I was very disappointed this past Saturday when I pulled up into the parking lot at 4:36 PM pulled on the door handle and it was locked .Peered through the tinted glass door , and a male individual signaled to me that they were closed. I immediately thought I must've read their hours wrong for a Saturday. As it turned out, I hadn't read them wrong. Their hours said they would be open until 5 PM. Boy I felt like I had been punched in the gut. It wouldn't have been so bad, but I made a special trip from out of town. I really felt unappreciated as a customer. Maybe the owner needs to realize that customer service is more than just assisting people inside the store, but also entails giving reliable information to their customers. Still uncertain if I'll ever go back.!

I placed a large flooring order totaling nearly $7,000 more than two weeks ago with the expectation…read morethat pickup would be straightforward. I even rented a cargo van specifically for the trip. Before leaving, I called at 9:00 a.m. to let the store know I was on my way to pick up my order. When I arrived around 10:40 a.m., the experience immediately went downhill. I stood at the customer service desk while three employees were present, yet no one acknowledged me or asked if I needed assistance. Everyone appeared frustrated and completely uninterested in helping customers. After waiting, I finally got someone to assist me. Unfortunately, it only got worse. By the time my order was being loaded around 11:15 a.m., the two employees handling the pickup were rude, short, and abrasive. There was no greeting, no communication, and no appreciation for the fact that I was picking up a significant order. I work in Greenville and rarely shop the Columbia location, and this experience reminded me why. The difference in customer service between the two stores is night and day. Greenville has consistently been professional, friendly, and helpful. Columbia, on the other hand, made what should have been a simple pickup stressful and frustrating. When customers spend thousands of dollars and plan their day around picking up materials, they deserve to be treated with courtesy and respect. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend the Columbia location. If you have the option, I would strongly suggest driving to the Greenville store instead.

It's actually kind of an accident that I happened upon this place. I had been considering buying my…read morefirst farm tractor for a bit and started searching seriously last week. I made a dozen or so phone calls to places all around the midlands and got very few answers. Most of the time "the person you need to talk to isn't here today" or "Can I get back to you later?" followed by no call backs and no emails. The process of information gathering was actually kind of painful. Amazing really how businesses stay afloat being so tough to get information from. I actually went to several tractor sales locations around town(4 others to be exact) and got more of the same that I got with phone calls. Very frustrating. And then like magic Carolina Power Equipment appeared in a search and I hadn't seen them in any of my prior searches. So of course I had to investigate further. Perhaps because I had had such trouble on the phone before I decided to skip that step and drove over there on Friday afternoon about 4:00(not ideal timing as you can imagine). There were a couple customers at the desk and 3 employees behind the counter. I forgot something in my car and when I came back in there was only 1 older gentlemen behind the counter. "How can I help you sir?" and I told him kinda what I was thinking I was looking for. He said "well how bout we go outside and I'll show you some different choices?" and so we did. He then took me through all the different series tractors pointing out differences and their ideal usages, stuff I had no clue about. He spent 40 min with me outside on a mostly miserable day(50 deg and misting). Just as patient and perhaps more importantly as knowledgeable as he could be. After I got my head around some choices we went inside where he pulled up all the numbers I could want to know including mentioning discounts that were unadvertised and unknown to me. How cool is that?? I told him I needed time to decide some things and he said "yes of course this is a big purchase". At that moment I realized he never told me his name and I told him how blown away I was by the customer service and I just had to shake his hand. He said my name is "Mark". I asked for his business card and when he handed it to me it said "Owner" on the bottom. Incredibly patient and Humble man. I didn't say it but right then I knew I was going to buy from him and nobody else. Today, the following Monday, I signed the papers on my very first tractor and I couldn't be happier. If there was a higher rating than 5stars, I would give it to Carolina Power Equipment in a heartbeat.
