Awesome place for happy hour drinks, cocktails, and 1/2 off dim sum and sushi M-F from 5-7. Our favorite items were the hamachi sashimi, the shrimp and chive dumpling, and the rib- although everything was fantastic. We ordered Kirin beer as it's the one beer they have on draft- otherwise cocktails seems to be this specialty. Service is the restaurant is 100% - everything was prompt and professional. Great asian fusion food wonderful ribs which were to die for and the Hamachi tuna was very fresh.The staff were very attentive and friendly which made it a pleasant single traveller experience. This is quite a high end place which attracts young professionals... they play a really great mix of music. As is common with this type of establishment the portions while fresh and beautifully decorated on the plate are quite small so you might want to order more than you think you can eat. I came here with a friend for his birthday since he really had a hankering for some Thai and we thought this pan-Asian restaurant would give us some high-quality options and variety. Firstly, the service was absolutely flawless... courteous, swift, pleasant - I give an outright five stars to our waiter - he was incredible at making us feel welcome and obligingly answered all of our questions and requests. We started with cocktails and a starter. I ordered the edamame, which I thought could have used a longer soak in some sea salt, but my friend was in love with his prawn dumplings. We both ordered the Pad Thai (since we were in a Thai mood, after all) - mine was veggie and he went for the prawns. This was perhaps the most "fresh" pad thai I've ever had; lots of veggies and not blatantly greasy (which I liked). I also thought the prices were pretty reasonable given the high quality of the food and service. One note on the level of "hipness" that this place is notorious for - I just didn't get that vibe... I mean, it had a modernist twist, lots of black white, yes... but "hip"? I would say not-quite. It was really really crowded, and all the tables are shoved so close together that you're practically dining with the table next to you... plus, the noise level was more than a few decibels above what I consider imperative for a very chic or refined dining experience. Brilliant, fantastic, clever fresh food. Sometimes I'm a bit weary of fusion restaurants, but this place was just spot on. From the moment we walked in, I was overwhelmed with plate after plate of gorgeous looking food racing out of the kitchen. The menu is an eclectic mix of various Asian cuisines ranging from Japanese, Korean, Thai and Vietnamese, classic dishes and flavours given a modern makeover. I also love sharing small plates, and among our top dishes were the black cod shu mai, the sea bass carpaccio with truffle and fresh tomato, and the king prawn tempura. All beautifully presented and just fantastic. And dessert- I'll admit a banoffee pie was the last thing I expected the see on the menu, but if you like this dessert, order it!! Presented in a jar, it was loaded with lush caramel, cream and fresh bananas. Oh...em..gee The only thing stopping this place from earning a full 5 starts from me was the service- it started out well, but the rotating servers and lack of attention was a bit disappointing. Took my wife here last night for a birthday dinner. We have been here in the past, and I had great hopes. For two people, we ended up paying close to 200 £, and the food was it best mediocre. The duck was dry and way over cooked, it was on the edge of unenjoyable. The sushi flavor was dominated by cheap cream cheese with little resemblance an actual sushi. The pork belly wasn't bad, but it was also overcooked and dry, the only thing that elevated it was the veggies. When you find yourself in an unfamiliar (not to mention extremely upmarket) borough of London for a friend's wedding, deciding where to go for dinner without having to remortgage first could have been a challenge. My preconceptions of Notting Hill were found to be unwarranted however, as we stumbled across E&O. From the front you'd think it was just a bar, as it was noisy and bustling with drinkers. Walk through towards the back and you'll find their dark, relaxed, modern-looking restaurant space. It's rather minimal looking, with wooden slatted walls and uplights. Service was efficient and friendly throughout the meal; we were asked for drinks and brought menus as soon as we sat down. We had edamame beans to nibble on whilst we had a look (I wish someone had told me beforehand that you're not supposed to eat the pods - newbie failure!). My tuna sashimi was very good but the portion size (for me) was a little on the small side. My friend's crispy pork belly dim sum was the winner. The lamb rendang and sweet potato curry was truly delicious. Accompanied by a bottle of white wine it made for a satisfying, and relatively wallet-friendly, evening of Asian fusion. read more

I also like the ambience. It was nice and laid back. The crowd did seem quite a bit pretencious. I went with a group of 5 other people. So we had a great and made a party out of it. E&O is a trendy pan Asian restarant in the heart of Notting Hill which is very popular with locals. Serving a combination of Malaysian, Chinese and Japanese food in minimilist surrounds it has become a bit of a celebrity haunt. I have been to E&O twice and enjoyed the food especially as I love Chinese food. The Vietnamese lemonade has an unusual but refreshing taste which complimented my dumpling and noodle dish. There are other restaurants serving similar food which are cheaper and much less 'showy' but E&O is a stylish place which stands out. read more

I had been dieing to go here for the longest time and am so glad I finally did! I went here with a gf tonight and started out with a bottle of Sauvignon blanc. We started with edamame, which was unique with with soy/mirin. We then went for the pumpkin miso gyoza, sea bass sashimi, duck and watermelon salad and the rock shrimp tempura. Every dish was an explosion of flavour in my mouth just delicious! We ended the night with the hazelnut and praline mochi which was an amazing end to our night. I used to live around the corner from this place and it was a regular celebrity haunt. I wondered what all the fuss was about so I tried it and the food was FABULOUS, probably some of the best food I have ever had. Bad for the hips but oh so delicious! This review is only for the drinks as I have never eaten here. Since the dreaded day that my admittedly run down and dingy fav. martini place shut in Notting Hill (I'm looking at your First Floor!), I had been searching for my new dirty martini substitute (they also did a mean old fashioned) in the area. On a recent hunt for cocktails, I discovered that they actually make a pretty good cocktail at E&O! The dirty martinis and old fashioneds were passable here, which is more than I can say for most places. But the other mixed drinks I tried were very good examples of what they should be. In particular the Pisco Sour was very good. 10/10 would go again for drinks, but I am still upset that my dusty first floor lounge is shut. read more

Saturday night and my full party was 30 minutes late for our reservation. Would they still honor it? Yes they did. Nice crowd. From the folks waiting outside, the people seated inside and out, and the full bar area (completely packed). Good looking people. Service was pretty good, a bit inconsistent in the beginning but better as the night wore on. Dish explanations were quite helpful. I highly recommend the lychee & tomato cherry curry. Rice is not included - charged as a side. Large enough portion for one person's full meal. The cod is very good but also pricey at £33! The sashimi was fresh and the sushi rolls ok (nothing to to talk about though). The chili salt squid and edamame are fine starters for the table. And the banoffee pie for dessert is delightful. Being in London less than a week by this time, I hadn't found a meal I enjoyed until this one. And I know it wasn't the wine talking! Good food. Good quality. I've grown to love this restaurant. I thought it was a bit overpriced when I went there years ago, but after trying countless other restaurants in this neck of the woods, I realized this is par for the course. Also, I've been there enough times that I've weeded out the dishes that just aren't that great (in my opinion) and am faithful to a number of items that never fail to please. Personal favourites include the chili-salt squid, the duck, watermelon and cashew salad, duck pancakes and a great chili flavoured chicken. The sushi/sashimi is consistently above average. Style over substance - that's how I would summarize this review. E & O is where to go if you want to impress someone...maybe 3rd or 4th date worthy. The crowd is always stylish, and the cocktails are among the best in the area. The food however is a bit underwhelming considering you'll spend a week's salary before you leave. It's not bad, it's just that I'm usually skeptical of "Asian Fusion" and they seem to pull if off to a meet a minimum grade. I find it ridiculous that they would have pad thai on the menu and charge twice what you could get from anywhere else. I would highly recommend booking a table here, just in case. I can vary a lot from day to day how busy or not the restaurant is, so we've always found it's better to be safe than sorry. E&O do a great range of dim sum, but the menu has a range of Asian cuisine from Japan, China, Thai and Korean - so there's a great selection to pick from. The pork gyoza are a particular favorite, along with the avocado & sweet potato tempura. When I arrived to this restaurant, I was intrigued from the outside it looks like a bunker concealed from the outside world by its wood blinds. Once inside it was a minimal style decor space, very designy, so far so good. I have been to E and O just the one time, and I was pleasantly surprised. It is very trendy inside, with a minimalist décor. This was quite exciting for me, as my friend bought a house nearby and wanted me to give him a hand with decorating, he's a good friend so I though why not. When his wife got home from work, she was so impressed with how much we got done, that she wanted to treat me to a meal. She took us to E and O, and I kind of felt out of place as I was in a jeans which had a bit of paint on them. I think that we were quite lucky that it was around 4pm, otherwise I wouldn't have been allowed in. Still, that didn't stop me from enjoying a fantastic Dim Sum. Some Asian restaurant make a big song and dance about their dim sum but then really let you down, E and O was one of the best I have had, I was starving after a hard days work and everything was so fresh that you could tell that each dish had come straight from being cooked, so tasty. As for the prices, we all had dim sum and our table must have seen about 20 dishes, including drinks, that being the tradition Jasmine Tea, the bill was around £120, I thought that was reasonable really, as it was such a trendy place, and supposedly popular with celebrities. read more

While I was in London last fall, my birthday arrived, and I gathered with a good-sized group of friends in the little bistro area near the bar in the front of E&O. We were a very disorganized bunch, and having more fun photographing ourselves with a DSLR and making impromptu experimental films on my Flip, than figuring out our orders. My friends were ordering little dishes to share, left, right and center, and our waiter handled it all like a pro. Everything I tried was delish - both food and drinks. People would go outside to smoke, and we could talk to them through the open window adjacent to our banquette. A stranger at the bar took a group photo for us. So, the vibe that night was very friendly, moreso than I might have thought, given the place's posh appearance. This place is cool. It's atmosphere is Informal and relaxed but equally feels a special place to eat. The food was amazing but particularly the starters consisting of sushi, sashimi, dim sum and dumplings. The sea bass and tuna were particularly good, yummy! If booking a table id ask for a side banquette as the central round tables are poorly lit. The black cod at £33 had to be tried (it was a treat after all) but not sure the hype justifies the price. We have coined this palce the cheaper version of Nobu. The sushi melts in your mouth while bursting with flavor. The sushi couldn't be more fresh. The fried rice has a special ingredient that just makes you want more and more. Everything we ordered was devoured in 3 seconds. I can't write a review without talking about the miso cod. We have found over the years that it's a dish that can easily be 'messed up' but E&O did it perfectly! I just wish they had more sushi items on the menu. read more

One of my favourite places in London, consistently great Asian food, mixing mainly Japanese and Thai. Service is typically friendly and pro and the places is always packed, which is the only downside... but you can often get lucky later at night for the second service. A great bar/restaurant specialising in modern, asian food. Sushi, dim sum, noodles, blackened cod, stir fries are all thrown together with great aplomb. Essential to book ahead, but worth the visit. Always busy, always lively. Only downside is bar is very very cramped! And although it sits at the top of the league in terms of food, ambience, locations & desirability it thankfully drops a few places in terms of price. Definitely worth a visit. I know it's not cool to admit anymore, but a spotting a celebrity still excites me and makes me grin. My trip to E&O gave me two in one - Stella McCartney and Damon Albarn in the same room at lunch, midweek (they weren't together I hasten to add). Anyway, that aside, E&O has food to die for if you love pan Asian food this is great. Favourites? Sticky spare ribs were delicious, tempura with its perfect batter and above all else black cod, which took my taste buds to heaven. E&O is a nice place to eat. It serves classic fusion fare, has a good bar and also seats people outside, very handy for those summer Notting Hill nights. It has a good bustle too. But at the same time it is the kind of place that risks killing Notting Hill's old bo-ho charm, with its expensive food and throngs of people with expensive clothes and expensive tastes! So while the food is good and the atmosphere is buzzing, value for money it is not. read more
