Tien effing Tien is the bomb!…read moreThe first time I was able to dine here, we ordered off the ala carte menu but I had noticed that every one else was enjoying a hot pot meal. Subsequent visits were made and it was hot pot all the way from there. No regrets were had. (Skip this paragraph if you already know how to get there/park cause tl;dr) Tien Tien used to be located on Pasay Rd/Arnaiz so don't make the same mistake as me! They are now located in The Atrium Bldg along Makati Ave right next to the pretty pretty Zuellig Bldg. Parking can be a bit of an issue if you're not familiar with how it works but here are some hopefully helpful instructions based on personal experience of driving around in circles: If you're heading north on Makati Ave from Ayala Ave, you'll actually see The Atrium Bldg, that way you have an idea of where it is. Make a right on Paseo de Roxas and an immediate right into what looks like the parking lot/driveway of the Zuellig Bldg. Go past the lot onto the next street which is Apartment Ridge Rd and make a right there since it's a one way street. It's parallel to Makati Ave and just follows along the curve. You can park (or double park if you have a driver I guess) next to the wall and there should be an entrance to Tien Tien from the back. Semi bad thing is that you'll have to go through the function rooms which can be awks if there are a lot of people or if there's private party. Enough about location and parking, onto the food: Two things I remember about the ala carte menu is that 1) the seafood is super fresh. You can actually see the food (haha get it) swimming in the aquariums near the front entrance. 2) Eel in black bean/tausi sauce. Don't even think twice except maybe for the bones so be careful. Eat this with rice because it is so worth the calories. The hot pot blows so many other hot pot places out of the water. What Tien Tien doesn't give you in AYCE, they give you in quality. You have a choice of 4 soup bases and you can pick 2 in a split pot for variety. I personally prefer the wansuy soup base (stock with cilantro and peidan/century egg) cause I find it very light and refreshing. It also doesn't mask the taste of the meat, fish, etc too much and it absorbs their flavors too if you wanna drink the soup afterwards. Do not get wansuy if you have the genetics that make you think cilantro tastes like soap. Get sate instead if you'd like a spicy kick. The wantons, shrimp balls, and beef balls are all freshly made and take a little longer to cook so throw them into the soup first. The HK sliced beef is so red and fresh with just the right amount of fat. The rest of the stuff is pretty much standard. I unfortunately couldn't try the cheeseballs that people have mentioned because I'm lactose intolerant. Sad day. There is a sink near the entrance so you can wash your hands if you don't need to use the bathroom since it is located outside. In the dark empty building that could easily scare you if you're a scaredy cat like me. That sink is very much appreciated. The staff is great and very attentive! Very efficient and awesome service! We're sorry if we kept making you come back to pour tea, we wanted a whole teapot so you wouldn't have to go back and forth. However, I wouldn't recommend using the bathroom here because it's not exactly a golden throne.

Same exact thing that you'd expect from an AYCE hot pot joint. You let them know what you require and they'll squire. The amouse bouche items are quite ok. There's a decent variety of meats to choose from in the menu. There's also noodles and veggies to throw in there as well. I feel like their broth is the focal point, mine was properly spicy. I was legit sweating during the smash sesh. The service was pretty good, I definitely enjoyed smashing here. Was it the best hotpot joint I've ever been to, no. But it was still very good. So I'm gonna give this spot a proper 7.5/10. If you ever make it to BGC, do give this spot a proper go at it and let me know what you think in the comments below. The sauces should be free but charged us 100 pesos per head on the same bowls of sauces on the table for each person (not fair!) a cup of rice is worth 90 pesos each (its not even authentic rice, but just the ordinary one). They probably heard us laughing about their over priced HIGHWAY ROBBERY MENU and gave us free tendon adobo which I must say it's good, its like a hybrid of the beef brisket in Hong Kong and filipino adobo with a mild kick of chili. (Yes guys! You can safely spend on that dish). At first, I thought, "Hmm maybe the price of the shabu shabu is high because it's authentic" WRONG!!! It was so bad!!! The soup was tasteless, just a bland to faint taste of beef bone broth, the beef wasn't anything special, it was dry and bland as well, the tendon beef balls was full of pepper!! It was so bad, I'm putting my 4 thumbs down (4 because the thumbs of my toes are included). And yes!! They don't accept credit card or debit card, only cash! They didn't honor my mother's senior card at first (gee shady deal?) but then the waiters explained it to the one in charge and finally gave way for the government mandatory discount.

(For one, you don't have to do the dishes after. Hehe.) First you order from a list of meat, seafood, noodles, and vegetables that are brought to your table raw. With the stove built into the table, you cooked these ingredients in a little pot of hot water right in front of you, then dip the piping hot food into the provided sauce and enjoy. Super easy. My favorite thing about hot pot restaurants is that they're a really healthy option for eating out. You can control how your food is prepared, and it's not highly processed. Thousand Cranes' ingredients are always fresh and the best, so you're in safe hands here. You may not believe me, but it's actually my little cousins and brother who request to eat here! They love cooking their own beef and noodles haha. It makes me think that this restaurant might be good for picky eaters; if they get to participate in making their own food they might be more encouraged to eat it. It definitely worked on my bro!

When it comes to Shabu-Shabu places, the real battle is really between the quality of the ingredients that they offer to you, and the amount of food that you can get for the price that you're paying. Unfortunately, Thousand Cranes loses in terms of price, as this place is kind of pricey, even if Shabu-Shabu places usually do run a little bit higher on the budget. But where they do win is the quality of their ingredients. You know that you're getting premium meat, clean and fresh vegetables, and even their squidballs taste a little bit better than your usual tusok-tusok variations on the street. Another reason why I enjoyed eating there was, despite the fact that every single table had their hot pot to a boil during that time, the ventilation was excellent. I didn't feel like I was having my meal in a spa. And we didn't smell like food when we walked out! So all in all, if you're looking to splurge on some hot pot goodness, maybe it's raining and you feel like some nice hot soup would warm your cold heart, drop by Thousand Cranes. Your wallet might regret it, but your tummy definitely won't.

There was maybe a good 100 people when we arrived 5 min prior to them opening. We were placed in a nice glass enclosed VIP room for the 9 of us. And it was neat that each place setting had its own burner and hotpot so that you could individually cook your own stuff. The selections here are huge!!! They had rows and rows of food. From cooked food to uncooked food. Including seafood, beef, chicken, pork. They even had several types of noodles you can add into your hotpot from udon, to black squid ink pasta to other types. For goodness sakes they had about 4 different broth bases to use as ur liquid from fish stock, beef stock, chicken stock and regular hot water. The had an entire wall to ceiling area of just vegetables to add to your hotpot as well. Desserts they had a plethora of them from Korean style to hong Kong style to halo halo to ice creams and many other deserts. They had about 10 different non alcoholic juices and ice teas to try from which were all delicious. They also had about 5 different beers UNLIMITED beers to choose from and even a beer on tap!!!! They even had a tepenyaki type area to cook your foods as well as a sauce station with about 15 different dry seasonings and liquid sauces. Just incredible. Service tho was slow. There was a lot of people working so i dont know why it was slow. From topping off our broths to clearing our dishes. We had dishes piling up clear to the ceiling before they would be removed. Just not acceptable. Price wise to its the most expensive ive seen yet for an all you can eat in the manila area at 888 pesos. The amounts of food justifies the steep price. But i was just expecting quicker service. A good place to bring someone too if they r new to manila. For a quick second i was going to say that this place might rival the hotpot of Taiwan. But still the seafood in Taiwan is still a lot fresher and of better quality.

The experience of cooking on individual pots was awesome, you had control of the ingredients you want to put in your stock. We ordered their basic set, the pork and beef set. If you don't want to pay for one of the 5 soups in their menu, they have seaweed water for refill at free of charge. The floors were super slippery. There were a lot of people complaing about the slippery floors and someone could get really hurt. Overall the food was good but the time restriction and the refill charge had me thinking twice if I would visit here again.

The quality of food throughout Sambo Kojin's are quite consistent. What I really go to this branch for is the quality of service. I've always been asked if it's my first time when visiting. The waiters always take care to assist with sauces, offer to bring different dishes to the table, and be quick with the drink refills. Coming from a hospitality education, I really appreciate the decisions management has made to craft the experience while making smart financial decisions. Here are a few I'd like to highlight: Uni is available, but never after it's started to taste a little toooo fishy, and they keep it behind the bar so that it doesn't waste. The soy sauce isn't sitting on the table. Less waste. But, it's always readily available by the sushi with ample wasabe. The waiters offer to bring the tempura, soup, kamemeshi rice to your table. It saves the hassle of waiting for in-demand items at the same time "filling-up" hungry eaters with cost-friendly fare. For most people, buffets are as good as their value for money. As the number of buffet establishments rose, this one stuck to me. I've never been disappointed by it. My expectations have always been met. So first off, we love their rice. Yeah, the one they serve in a little pot but damn, that rice is heavy on the tummy. The dessert area is a must visit after your meal, really, save room for dessert. We get a plate full of meat first and then we start cooking because it's gonna take a while then get whatever else we want on the buffet. But the meat's mainly why we go there.
