Even though this wasn't the largest remodel for their company, they treated us as if it were a million‑dollar renovation -- with care, respect, and exceptional attention to detail. Jacob was an outstanding owner to work with. He approved everything quickly, stayed flexible, and worked with us on a payment schedule that made the process smooth and stress‑free. His communication was clear, and he made sure we always felt supported throughout the remodel. From the project manager to the foreman, to the crew and subcontractors, everyone showed up ready to deliver. Jacob's team moved fast -- gutting the kitchen, updating the wiring, and completing an impressive amount of work within the first four days. The craftsmanship was excellent, and the workflow was organized and efficient. Jacob was involved with our supplier who handled all the materials, including our new cabinets and kitchen counters. They kept everything on schedule and made the selection process easy. There was no constant back‑and‑forth, no need for us to oversee every detail. The team stayed on top of the project from beginning to end, keeping the schedule tight and the quality consistently high. Even with the limited funds we had to work with, they transformed our old, dark kitchen into a bright, modern, beautifully updated space that is completely new. The results exceeded our expectations. We're truly grateful for the professionalism, consistency, and quality of work from S&L Remodeling. Jacob's leadership and his team's dedication made the entire experience exceptional. Highly recommend.

A Nightmare Experience with GMBC: Poor Craftsmanship and Unreliable Service…read more Hiring GMBC for our renovation project was a terrible decision. The experience was a complete nightmare, with their shoddy craftsmanship and unreliable service leaving me deeply dissatisfied. We worked with Moshe and had numerous conversations about the quality of work but he did not care. The project initially estimated to take three months, dragged on for over a year. Here are the major issues I encountered: 1. Poor Quality Craftsmanship: The work done by GMBC was riddled with errors and executed in a sloppy manner. The foreman was rarely present, and when he was, he consistently overpromised and underdelivered. Their lack of skill and attention to detail was evident in poor flooring install, uneven paint jobs, and a complete disregard for precision. A few examples of their subpar workmanship, but by no means comprehensive: -A small deck featuring cracked spindles/railing. The wood was so discolored that we paid them more just to try to cover it up, with the end result looking even worse. -We paid them thousands to level our floor and install flooring, but the end result was warped and bouncy. After we pointed it out, they suggested drilling holes all over our new floors and trying to glue everything down. -A sliding shower door installation that was unlevel and featured a half inch gap all the way around. It was so bad that we couldn't even shower in the room without the bathroom filling with water. There were several issues such as drill marks and permanent marker drawn all over from where they made errors trying to install the first time. -We paid them to install soundproofing on a shared wall with our neighbor. Moshe himself noticed there was absolutely no change when he came over to check on the things, and could hear our neighbor's music as if it was in the same room. There was no suggestion on how to resolve or make the situation right on their end. We ended up paying thousands with absolutely no result. 2. Unreliable and Unprofessional Crew: The crew assigned to my project displayed consistent lateness and unprofessional behavior. The foreman was rarely around and the crew was often on break, resulting in wasted time. Their lack of professionalism extended to a disregard for my property and basic safety protocols. They installed a stacked washer and dryer without the provided stacking kit and when we were told it was ready for use, the washer ended up walking itself out of the laundry room and into a wall, further damaging the unit as well as the brand new floors we had installed. GMBC's reluctance to take responsibility for their mistakes and their laborers' inability to perform as professionals further added to my frustration. GMBC did eventually reimburse me for the dryer. 3. Missed Deadlines and Extended Delays: Despite GMBC's promises of efficiency, the project suffered from poor planning and an inability to adhere to timelines. The extensions of the project disrupted my daily routine and caused unnecessary delays. Inspections were missed multiple times, leading to wasted time and frustrated inspectors. I brought this up to Moshe and he told me the guy was in his car for one of the inspections and didn't see the inspector ring my doorbell. How is that acceptable? 4. Dishonest Practices: GMBC exhibited a lack of honesty and integrity throughout the project. They lied about placing an order for a specific closet door, stating that the one we had requested was out of stock but when we called the store ourselves, they had 5. GMBC just didn't want to admit that they had made a mistake. We had a similar scenario with the original shower door that they had installed where a subcontractor they sent to replace the original door stated that they had installed it incorrectly. Their poor record-keeping was evident when they failed to provide complete receipts for reimbursements. Additionally, they attempted to charge me for something I had already paid for. 5. Lack of Design Sense: They failed to deliver work of which they could be proud and omitted showcasing it on their website or social media. The solutions provided for an eyesore firewall and poorly done concrete work in the driveway were unsatisfactory. Their lack of effort to find acceptable options and costs left me disappointed and seeking help from other contractors. On top of everything, I was pregnant when the project started and then had a newborn when they were still working at the house. It was an absolute nightmare and so stressful. Moshe's attempts to fix things later were too late, and the inconvenience wasn't worth it. Eli got involved towards the end and seemed reasonable when it came to deducting items on the poor work that was done. My husband ended up fixing a number of things after they completed the job. Overall, my experience with GMBC was a disaster. Their lack of professionalism and poor workmanship make them a company to avoid.

Pros: Good Communication, photos of the entire process, handled inspections and permit process, professional crew, David was super understanding when we asked to pause the project for a couple weeks, and the best part pricing. No mark up on materials, and they were the most competitive quote we got out of 3 quotes. Cons: A lot of dust/debris, I know if I would have asked they would have done another pass at clean up and a few rocks were damaged in the demo which they did help fix. We plan on working with them again on future projects.

He recommended excellent vendors. His subcontractors were extremely professional and timely as well. Whenever we hit a surprise (there weren't many, which is saying something given the size of the job), Mark handled it calmly and confidently. He has continued to be responsive even after completing the job. He has an eye for architectural details and made helpful recommendations to our design. Remodeling a home requires hundreds of decisions and he navigated us through them, never overloading us, but pacing them out and keeping us on a reasonable schedule. He showed his project managing skills both with how he organized his subs and with how he kept us on task. His direct and honest communication impressed us greatly. We have recommended Mark to several friends and will continue to do so.

Jim and his crew did a phenomenal job on our foundation replacement project. From the first time I…read morereached out to him, he was very patient and forthcoming with me, even offering advice and guidance with how best to get started with approaching the city, as well as assessing bids. We have a three-story Victorian that needed the original brick foundation replaced, as the condition was very deteriorated and well past its useful life. Jim came out to assess the situation and wasn't intimidated at all. He is a straight shooter and tells it as it is, and our job was going to be a major one. I picked Jim because he truly knows his craft and enjoys what he does. Plus he doesn't sugarcoat the inevitable surprises that will arise (plus he has a wicked sense of humor and some great stories to share). We started in the middle of last Summer and finished right on schedule during early Fall. I will be the first to say that it was a huge capital investment to undertake: excavating, removing the original perimeter foundation and shoring up the massive structure, while ultimately putting rebar and pouring the new concrete. I was quite nervous about all of the things that could have gone wrong, but Jim communicated constantly throughout the process and made sure his men were on task and doing quality work. Mid-way through, we had a incident where the sprinklers were inadvertantly triggered overnight, causing water to flood into the trenches. Jim came out immediately with his men after they became aware of the situation (even though it happened on the Labor Day holiday) and personally went to work to shore up the beams that were supporting the house and checking and double-checking any structural weakness caused by the water. Because of his diligence and attentiveness, I honestly felt like we averted a major catastrophe. Jim treated our home with the care and attention he would have given had it been his own home. He has a penchant for finding creative solutions to deal with a host of unexpected problems, and through it all, he was punctual, steadfast and very thorough with his oversight, being on-site every day. We have now moved on to our next phase of the project, but without Jim Patterson & Co, we literally wouldn't have a solid foundation for which to proceed. My thanks to him and his team for the transformative work they did to our forever home.

Last summer Jim and his crew replaced our 130 yr old brick foundation. It was a huge job and we shopped it around, but Jim's estimate came in at the bottom end of the range. What really won us over, however, Jim's approach. He is old school and dedicated to the craft - you could just tell by the way he approached the bid and the conversations w/ the Engineer. And he did not disappoint. He showed up early every morning, had his crew in line and busy every moment of the working day. His guys respected him and all mentioned how much they learned working w/ Jim. I was pretty hands-on, crawling around and checking things. Jim helped me understand all of the parts of the process and how he was making key decisions. He was patient w/ my questions and often went the extra mile to keep me happy. For example, I needed to replace some drainage and he had his guys dig up the concrete on the side of the house to help me out (definitely NOT in the contract). There are also little personal touches that you can't pay for. When his crew found an antique bottle from the SF Dairy Company, Jim put it by the front door with a little note - he knew that this kind of thing would matter to us. Anyway, the job was done on budget and ahead of schedule with great communication throughout. Most importantly, Jim always worked with us to resolve any issues (real or perceived) that I came to him with over the course of the project. Five stars!!
