    Before!

David is a jack of all trades! I initially reached out to him to replace our countertops in our master bathroom but quickly discussed doing a complete bathroom remodel. He came by to give me an estimate in person and was reasonable compared with other contractors I had talked to. His work is meticulous and he checked in with me along the way to ensure I was satisfied with the quality of the work. He took his time to do a great job and ensured he delivered high quality results. All work in the below pictures was done by him (except the cabinets) including demolition.

From start to finish, David was such a pleasure to do business with. He always responded promptly. He was also 1/3 less than what 2 other companies quoted us. Communication was great, he showed up early and was very clean throughout the project. We ran into unforeseen snags as far as cabinet fit but he was quick to fix it with efficiency. He even went to Home Depot to get a few things that we didn't have. My sink looks great and I am very happy we chose David.

Bottom line David does excellent work at great prices! He did the following for us (see attached pictures): Master bathroom: - created beautiful custom vanity countertops with waterfalls on the sides along with custom ramp sinks using a Caesarstone slab we provided. This was very detailed and demanding work that turned out beautifully. - installed wall faucets and the associated plumbing - hung custom lighted mirrors along with the associated electrical work - installed large format tiles on the walls Powder Room: - installed tiles on the wall and floor - installed a new toilet (with associated electrical) and pedestal sink - installed a wall faucet along with the associated plumbing - hung a custom lighted mirror + the necessary electrical work Kitchen: - Covered the sheetrock on our kitchen island with the same wood as our cabinets He'll definitely be the first guy I call for any future work. His work is superb, he's very easy to work with, trustworthy, and just an all-around good guy! Michael

    Before chips

We had a few minor chips on our quartz countertop around the sink. We called David and he came over the same day and gave us some great advice. Our countertops have a 1/32" bevel which seems too sharp hence the chipping. David recommend we drop this to a 1/16" bevel. We agreed. He did it with his tools, pretty amazing a sander and grinder looking set of tools and was done in a matter of 30 minutes or so. It wasn't cheap but I think it was worth the investment.

David did a good enough job with the granite, but I have to take off a star for the dodgy corner cut (see picture). Another star comes off because his estimate was cash-only, but he didn't say so beforehand. He wanted $500 more if we paid by check, so we had to take an hour out of our day to get him his wad of cash. UPDATE: David kindly offered 100$ to make up for his mistake

I worked with David on my kitchen remodel. He was on time for the initial meeting and quoted us a great price. He showed up everyday on time and ready to work. The attention to detail was amazing and I'm really happy with the end result. I would not hesitate to recommend David again for bathroom or kitchen remodeling.

This review is long overdue and if Yelp allows it, I would give David a 10+ star rating. I relocated to the East Bay pre-pandemic and this is my 6th property which I've renovated. I've had my bad experiences with contractors in the past which is why I feel very fortunate to have found David. First of all, David is very responsive by phone and text. He's also very reliable, always punctual to appointments and gets the job done in a timely manner. He offers great suggestions and ideas, being new to the area, he was able to direct me to the right places to find the materials I'm looking for. (Tip: it's faster to order all the materials/supplies and have it delivered/ready beforehand, otherwise, David can also pick it up for you.) He along with his workers are very hardworking and cleaned up each time at the end of the day. I'm amazed at the quality workmanship he's demonstrated and it shows upon completion of each job. There isn't anything he can't do. I interviewed other contractors to install a corner farm house sink which was deemed impossible but David made it happen. Not only are his price quotes reasonable, unlike other contractors I've worked with, he is honest upfront on the cost and tries his best to reduce any unnecessary fees. So far, he has completed four projects in my house in the past two years: kitchen remodel, guest bathroom remodel, master bathroom shower stall and marble countertop & toilet upgrades for my other bathrooms. See attached photos of the finished work he's done and all within my budget. I cannot recommend David enough as a skilled contractor, but also as a trustworthy person with excellent work ethics. I look forward to working with him again and feel free to contact me directly for a personal reference, if needed.

David was a great installer to work with. He worked with me and the stones I choose to make a custom fit install with a very short lead time. The counter came out excellent, and for a fair price. Thank you!

David did a great job fixing a chip on my countertop. He matched the color as much as possible and made the patch nearly invisible. He also provided many tips on how to maintain and clean the quartz countertop.

Professionalism: The team at Your Carpenter Friend was professional, meticulous, and clean, and they did an excellent job repairing dry rot around our home. They were so good that we've already recommended them to a couple of friends, and I hope they get the opportunity to work with them as well. Licensed: Yes Pricing: Pricing was reasonable and on par with other vendors we considered. Recommendation: Yes--100% recommend them. We plan to hire them again next year for additional work in the spring/summer, and I'll be happy to update this review then. Skill: They are truly skilled carpenters (Brendan, Zach, and Sam), which feels rare these days. While I don't do woodworking myself, I can certainly recognize and appreciate quality craftsmanship. In several areas, Zach and Sam came up with creative solutions to ensure water would not sit on the wood. They also discovered additional dry rot during the project and always consulted with us and obtained approval before proceeding. They worked non-stop--even in the cold! Work: I initially contacted Brendan for a mix of handyman work along with exterior dry rot repairs. He was honest and upfront about what could realistically be done during the dry season, so we decided to focus solely on the dry rot repairs. As it turned out, Brendan is a former termite inspector--perfect for anyone needing dry rot repair. They worked at our home for 3 days. There was one small area that wasn't painted on one side; once we brought it to his attention, Brendan came back the very next day to fix it. Their goal is clearly to make the customer happy, within reason. BTW -- he also does decks. Thank you, Brendan & Team!

He and his guys completed the job on schedule and on budget, which sadly seems like a rarity these days. I greatly appreciate Brendan's communication style and professionalism, as well as the high quality of the work he performed. I am planning another home exterior project next spring and would not hesitate to use this company for the carpentry work.

Overall the experience was very good; Elijah and Bryan were super friendly and responsive. Eli was very patient and accommodating as we discussed several different potential change orders, from new windows to painting, to other misc. things that popped up. Bryan Luna was especially a pleasure to work with. His attention to detail and proactivity to solve any little thing I mentioned was definitely the highlight of working with Prime. Their contracted electrician, Hector, was great as well. I also think they did a great job building out a cabinet to fit our freezer next to the matching fridge. Their master carpenter managed to salvage our existing wood to make it match perfectly. Definitely better than what I'd expect from even a carpentry specialty contractor. I will mention that it wasn't without some snags. Prime deals in volume so they're very busy. I think because I had delays in sourcing a freezer I ended up not getting a dedicated project manager for some time. We had timeline issues made worse with holidays. This caused cascading delays which inevitably pushed back my move in date a few weeks. When I finally did get a new project manager, they ghosted me (later on I found out they had a family emergency). Eli had to step in again to help. Another thing is that their pricing is quite opaque. The estimate will break down prices by milestones, but they repeated told me that it's not a valuation of the milestone itself. This made it nigh impossible to understand if I wanted to contract out specific pieces of the project (e.g. flooring). Design was OK. I felt that the designer was very busy. Sometimes very responsive (5min replies), sometimes not responsive at all (no reply). I wish I had a better, more thorough back-and-forth session about the intricacies of the design. But we made do. Ultimately, the designer made a render and helped point us to some vendors, but from there we had to make our own selection alone (cabinets, handles, pendant lights, faucets, etc.). I did appreciate her presence when we picked out countertops, though. All in all, I think this was a 4.5 star job, but I'm rounding to 5 because of Eli and Bryan :)

Overall, the project went well, and we're happy with the final results. Bryan, our foreman, was a strong asset to the project. Even though he was managing multiple jobs at the same time, his responsiveness and willingness to go out of his way to address our concerns made a big difference. Because we were home throughout the process, we were able to catch issues early and communicate them directly to Bryan, who consistently followed through to resolve them. What Went Well: * The tile and flooring subcontractors were excellent - their craftsmanship and attention to detail truly stood out. * Bryan, our foreman, was responsive to texts and phone calls, listened to our concerns, and made sure they were addressed. He even designed a bi-fold closet door for us, and helped pick up all the material to build it. * Bryan also took the initiative to handle several unfinished items himself, which we really appreciated. * The post-build cleaners were top-notch and left the space in pristine condition. * Throughout the project, everyone we interacted with was professional, courteous, and conscientious. There were no conflicts or issues, which made the experience comfortable for us. Areas for Improvement: * The timeline was a pain point. While we were originally told the project would take 6-8 weeks, it ended up stretching to 12 weeks. * The design process fell short of expectations. Because Prime's in-house designers weren't available, our design work was outsourced. We only received a full design package for the master bathroom. As a result, we ended up creating our own renderings for the other rooms to help communicate our vision to the team. That said, we were very happy with the design and material selections for the master bathroom they did complete. We just wish the same level of attention and design support had been provided for the rest of the project. * At times, resource availability was limited, likely due to workers being assigned to multiple jobs. This led to workflow inefficiencies and delays. Toward the end of our renovation, our foreman Bryan had to personally step in to complete several tasks, such as installing faucets, shelving, and baseboards. He managed to get it done in between site visits and meetings, which we appreciated, but it also highlighted a lack of available crew to close out the project. Despite these few challenges, the quality of the work met our expectations. We appreciated the team's effort and the final outcome.

We brought some ideas to the table, and he offered alternative solutions that made far more sense for how we live--solutions we loved. Designers were brought in to prepare plans and permits, and the work began. Our project manager, Adi, was one of the kindest, most attentive people I've ever worked with. He stayed in constant contact, visited the site frequently, and ensured every detail met extremely high standards. It became a running joke between us about changing their slogan to "quality you can afford"--he humored me, and it perfectly captures the team's approach. The craftsmanship from Flavio, the lead contractor, was exceptional. We didn't pick the easiest designs, but the finished primary bathroom shower tile is genuinely a work of art--everyone who sees it comments on it. We also can't forget "Muscle Memo", who handled all the heavy lifting--climbing through dusty attics, crawling under grimy crawl spaces, and tackling the toughest physical work. His effort made the project run smoothly and safely. Adding to the charm, the team brought their own portable bathroom, which hilariously became a little local attraction--neighbors and passersby would sometimes "need to go," and we all shared a laugh over it. LB went above and beyond by addressing problem areas that weren't part of the original scope, with no extra charge, just to ensure the house looked perfect. They even brought in a professional cleaning crew, leaving our home cleaner than when the project started--a rare and deeply appreciated touch. We are thrilled with the entire LB team and highly recommend them. I have given GMBC numerous attempts to fix the leak over the past 3 years, but the leaking persists. Two other companies have determined that GMBC did not do the work required to fix the leak and used improper materials. Moishe is the manager and refuses to resolve the issue. Horrible work. Horrible experience. Do Not Use them unless you just want to waste money!

A Nightmare Experience with GMBC: Poor Craftsmanship and Unreliable Service…read more Hiring GMBC for our renovation project was a terrible decision. The experience was a complete nightmare, with their shoddy craftsmanship and unreliable service leaving me deeply dissatisfied. We worked with Moshe and had numerous conversations about the quality of work but he did not care. The project initially estimated to take three months, dragged on for over a year. Here are the major issues I encountered: 1. Poor Quality Craftsmanship: The work done by GMBC was riddled with errors and executed in a sloppy manner. The foreman was rarely present, and when he was, he consistently overpromised and underdelivered. Their lack of skill and attention to detail was evident in poor flooring install, uneven paint jobs, and a complete disregard for precision. A few examples of their subpar workmanship, but by no means comprehensive: -A small deck featuring cracked spindles/railing. The wood was so discolored that we paid them more just to try to cover it up, with the end result looking even worse. -We paid them thousands to level our floor and install flooring, but the end result was warped and bouncy. After we pointed it out, they suggested drilling holes all over our new floors and trying to glue everything down. -A sliding shower door installation that was unlevel and featured a half inch gap all the way around. It was so bad that we couldn't even shower in the room without the bathroom filling with water. There were several issues such as drill marks and permanent marker drawn all over from where they made errors trying to install the first time. -We paid them to install soundproofing on a shared wall with our neighbor. Moshe himself noticed there was absolutely no change when he came over to check on the things, and could hear our neighbor's music as if it was in the same room. There was no suggestion on how to resolve or make the situation right on their end. We ended up paying thousands with absolutely no result. 2. Unreliable and Unprofessional Crew: The crew assigned to my project displayed consistent lateness and unprofessional behavior. The foreman was rarely around and the crew was often on break, resulting in wasted time. Their lack of professionalism extended to a disregard for my property and basic safety protocols. They installed a stacked washer and dryer without the provided stacking kit and when we were told it was ready for use, the washer ended up walking itself out of the laundry room and into a wall, further damaging the unit as well as the brand new floors we had installed. GMBC's reluctance to take responsibility for their mistakes and their laborers' inability to perform as professionals further added to my frustration. GMBC did eventually reimburse me for the dryer. 3. Missed Deadlines and Extended Delays: Despite GMBC's promises of efficiency, the project suffered from poor planning and an inability to adhere to timelines. The extensions of the project disrupted my daily routine and caused unnecessary delays. Inspections were missed multiple times, leading to wasted time and frustrated inspectors. I brought this up to Moshe and he told me the guy was in his car for one of the inspections and didn't see the inspector ring my doorbell. How is that acceptable? 4. Dishonest Practices: GMBC exhibited a lack of honesty and integrity throughout the project. They lied about placing an order for a specific closet door, stating that the one we had requested was out of stock but when we called the store ourselves, they had 5. GMBC just didn't want to admit that they had made a mistake. We had a similar scenario with the original shower door that they had installed where a subcontractor they sent to replace the original door stated that they had installed it incorrectly. Their poor record-keeping was evident when they failed to provide complete receipts for reimbursements. Additionally, they attempted to charge me for something I had already paid for. 5. Lack of Design Sense: They failed to deliver work of which they could be proud and omitted showcasing it on their website or social media. The solutions provided for an eyesore firewall and poorly done concrete work in the driveway were unsatisfactory. Their lack of effort to find acceptable options and costs left me disappointed and seeking help from other contractors. On top of everything, I was pregnant when the project started and then had a newborn when they were still working at the house. It was an absolute nightmare and so stressful. Moshe's attempts to fix things later were too late, and the inconvenience wasn't worth it. Eli got involved towards the end and seemed reasonable when it came to deducting items on the poor work that was done. My husband ended up fixing a number of things after they completed the job. Overall, my experience with GMBC was a disaster. Their lack of professionalism and poor workmanship make them a company to avoid.

Avoid for Large Projects - Poor Communication, Costly Mistakes, and Delays…read more I would not hire R&A Stone and Tile unless you are a contractor yourself and can monitor the job 24/7. They may be fine for small tiling jobs, or a cheap kitchen flip that you don't care about the quality but anything beyond that is a mistake. Project Experience: -Disorganized & Poor Communication: Ruben, the contractor, constantly miscommunicated with his crew, leading to errors and wasted time. The crew speaks limited English, and Ruben failed to properly relay instructions. -Constant Rescheduling & Delays: The project was plagued with intentional delays because they were trying to juggle randoms crew members to the job site. They do not have a dedicated crew. To keep the job moving, I had to step in and install my stove hood myself. Quality of Work: -Minimal Supervision & Costly Mistakes: Ruben was only on-site for 30 minutes to an hour a day. The crew made frequent errors, wasted materials, and ultimately cost me an extra $5,000 in materials. Unprofessional Workmanship: -A crew member (Adrian) improperly used self-leveling, causing mortar to seep through walls and doors. -The same worker almost set my kitchen on fire due to incorrect wiring. -A junior crew member (Manuel) threw away new materials, further increasing costs. -My husband and I had to redo the wall texture they applied because it was done so poorly. -The countertop was improperly installed (by Victor), leading to a post-installation crack. The contractor promised to fix it but was a no-show, wasting an entire day of our time. -The dishwasher was incorrectly installed (Ricardo), requiring my husband to take a day off to reinstall it. Material Pricing & Usage: The contractor ordered materials on my behalf, but the pricing changed and was increased without transparency. The crew also took materials I paid for to use on other job sites. Also on two occasions, we had to order more tiles at 3x the cost because all the measurements were incorrect. Other Issues: -The crew trashed and clogged our bathroom toilet. They denied responsibility until I installed a camera--only then did the issue stop. -Never reimbursed or refunded for damages and extra expenses. Final Verdict: Ruben is a nice guy and means well, but his company is not equipped for big jobs (over $10K). If you have a small bathroom tile job, they might be fine, but anything beyond that--find a better contractor. We rushed to finish the project just to be done with them, and in hindsight, we should have hired someone else from the start. Do not make the same mistake we did. 2/5 - Would not recommend for major home renovations. Recommend for small jobs only.
