UnBar is a woman-owned wine bar and coffee shop union. Is there a better duo? I don't think so. I…read moreunexpectedly really enjoyed my experience. I stopped in today for a cup of morning coffee but walked away with my hands full. I got iced coffee which came in a smaller than I wanted cup. I also got mushroom latte which was perfectly spiced with cinnamon, and very smooth. I selected almond milk and feel like it paired well with the ingredients. Also I had to have some baked goodies after looking at the bakery case. I ordered croissant which honestly I found to be not fresh but still good. Apricot tea cake in the perfect world deserves its own paragraph. It was delicious, generously filled, and everything a tea cake should be. It's a must have! Service here is phenomenal! I mean top notch, attentive, and very genuine. There was only one employee serving the line but she did it with such a level of positivity that it made my morning. She asked if baked goodies needed to be warmed, asked about drink carriers, milk preferences, everything. She was consistently friendly with all customers. I really applaud this cafe on having such warm and friendly service. I wish more workers were in this morning to attend to the line but the service was incredible. As far as the cafe layout and amenities, here's the scoop. The cafe has wine, beer, coffee, and breakfast/lunch grab and go's. They have a coffee club where you get your own tumbler and you can join for $20. They also have plants for sale on a display much like Phoenix coffee. They also have a printer that you can use to print things. I don't know about you but I always feel like I need to print things. I mean it. The cafe has indoor and outdoor seating, was quiet when I was there and is somewhere you can really focus and do your most meaningful work. I also like the separation from the counter to the seating portion that makes it more secluded. I could totally see myself sitting here all day outside and enjoying the sunshine. Overall, if you have wine or caffeine needs, stop by this cafe. It's an unexpected gem of Larchmere. Order mushroom latte, it's a unique local find and is very tasty. Lastly, the cafe seems to have many regulars. One of the customers said "it's always a joy to be here" to cafe employee. That's exactly how it felt here - joyful.

It looks clean and open, the staff was sufficiently helpful and polite, and the food was okay. It wasn't great, but not bad either. We got a soup and sandwich combo, and a soup to go. The sandwich was loaded with lettuce, which we removed, leaving very little to the sandwich. The soups were average size, just enough I guess. It was actually very tasty and hearty. We also got a smoothie, again just an average size. The final price was $37. This was not a $37 meal! Three of us ate full meals at a sit down Mexican restaurant the night before and it was only $46! It's simply a matter of rather small helpings of okay food just not being worth the price they charge. The soups are good. The prices are bad.

The first course was complimentary breads with olive tapenade. The breads were so rustic and delicious. The olive tapenade was a great dipping sauce. For appetizer, I got fried calamari. It was a modern Italian twist. The fried calamari was so tender. It had light breading. It was fried together with olives, sun dried tomatoes, sliced shiitake mushrooms and some basils. It was so good that I kept eating it. For entrees, I got the bone-in CAB ribeye. It was cooked medium rare. The steak was juicy, tender and had a little bite to it. The asparagus was great in the dish. However, I was not too keen on crispy potatoes with Gorgonzola cheese. The cheese kinda made the potatoes a bit salty. I didn't enjoyed it at all. The beef short rib was another entree I tried as well. It was tender but the flavor was not deep and complex. Overall, the restaurant did a good job with the food.
