I needed to rent certain DJ equipment for a DJ for an event. I attempted to call an audio rental place closer to me, but he never answered his phone. After many attempts, I then decided to call this place. They had everything that I needed. When I walked into the store there was someone able to help me right away. The equipment that I needed was being rented out to google the night before. An older gentleman stated that if Google did not bring it back on Friday, I would be screwed. He then said it's OK because he would pick one up from San Leandro if he had to. That was cool to hear that. This is my new go to now!!! Also there is parking in the back. The door to the store is decorated like a child care center. read more

My brother needed lights for gigs, so I saw this place on yelp and came through. Had a lot of stuff, but messy. We walked in and no one acknowledged us the whole time we were in the store. We see what we are eyeing and ask a guy if he can help us. He says hold on for 10 minutes.... 10 minutes in this store with nothing to really look at? My brother looks up lighting at guitar center and we headout after some time. The guy does't make an effort to stop us or anything, nor does he get another sales associate to help us. When we walked out there was a cat sleeping against the other door. Just like this store, dead. read more

I just purchased an Odyssey rolling case from Dynamic Sound and they were recommended by the manufacturer. Not only did Oscar the owner give me a great price because Odyssey recommended them, but they also helped me setup the case, install the wheels, and get it ready to tour. Fantastic Service and great pricing. I never have to go back to Guitar Center again for my Audio needs! (Other yelpers have referenced the cool cat that lounges in their showroom. I did see the cat and he is cool, but apparently I am not as cool as he is, because just like back in high school, the girls never gave me a second glance. He looked at me, and went right back to sleep.) read more

Way before Oscar took ownership, Dynamic was the destination place for: - Black Technics 1200's and Shure M44-7 needles - Numark Fader repairs and supplies - Cerwin Vega 18" Earthquakes - DMC battle mixers, slipmats, and videos - 12' Trussing and 4 headed scanners with the flavored fog machines - Rental lights for the upcoming big events and battles: everyone wanted to rent the "Orbit" and "Dual UFO". But no one could afford to buy them. - Anvil cases for the 12's - Gold plated " speaker cable - Snake lights - Rane amps - 1992 First Annual DJ In-Store Battle (D-Stylez winning the event). - And all the bells and whistles before it became commercial (ie. Instant DJ packages by Gemini?) Thank you for the years of serving my high school and college DJ career. Most of my heavy DJ equipment is gone now and my old crew has moved on. We often have get-togethers and talk about the good ol' days before everything went digital. You are one of the old few pioneers and dealers that offered the "hard to find" DJ gear in the South Bay. read more

Dynamic is the one-stop place to go for all your mobile/professional DJing needs. They offer a pretty extensive list of equipment from JBL to Pioneer. You can easily get your lighting fix here with all their American DJ to Elation inventory. Need trussing? Not a problem-- they got it! They can help you design your next rig for any-sized venue. It does get busy sometimes as there aren't that many good stores like this around so don't be afraid to browse the gear and ask your questions when you have them! These guys also rent sound/lighting equipment and gear. They're always quick with setup and exceeds our expectations. Highly recommended! read more

The guys at Dynamic Sound and Lighting are great. They would be the opposite of Guitar Center - they know their gear, they're sociable and extremely friendly, they have great customer service, and they will go out of their way to accomodate your needs as a customer. I was there for the first time this last week because I needed to get my tonearm clip, rca's, and on/off switches fixed. Even though it was only my first time in the store (and my first time meeting the workers), the guys there make you feel like you're an old friend stopping by to kick it. Chopped it up with them after discussing my repair quote and then we got down to talking about lighting. They went out of their way to set up 5-6 different lights for me to see, as well as turning off the store lights, cranking up the music, and turning on the fog so I could see which lights work best in the environment that us djs work in. Great customer service! If you're a dj it's a great spot to kick it and chill with people who actually know what they're talking about. Edit: They accidentally returned to me somebody else's turntable, and not my own. Needless to say the confusion was not appreciated. The guys there are still cool and they did blame their new service technician, but I didn't like that I had to make extra trips (and wait longer) to get my turntable back. Just a slight inconvenience is all, the customer service there is still on par. read more

OK, not quite a 5, not bad enough to be a 3 but close. Dynamic Sound & Lighting(DSL) is the largest most well stocked DJ gear and lighting shop in San Jose. Oscar is the owner of DSL. It's a family owned shop, his brother, cousins, entire family all work there. They stay well stocked on many different types of bulbs. Whenever a disco light bulb burns out (like last week, our 1000w spotlight bulb burned out) I can always count on them having what I need in stock. Bottom line, if you're a club in the San Jose area, and you have a bulb burn out at the last minute, this is the place to go. To better assist the DJ community, they have late hours. So let's say you get in on Friday around 7, you see a bulb burned out on a fixture, they're just a mile or two down second street. You can go there, get back, and have a replacement bulb within 30 minutes. The other nice thing about them too is Oscars family has a metal working business. So if you need custom welded aluminum trusts, they can do it for you. Finally, they have pretty good return and bartering policies. I got a bad bulb once that was obviously bad when I got it. They looked at it and just gave me a replacement on the spot. They've also let me barter on stuff via consignment (discount on new equipment by trading in old) OK now the bad. I hate doing this because I really like these guys, but these are the reasons they're not quite 5 star. This review could change if these issues get addressed. We have some LED pars we got from them. Several of them are burning out. We were promised some replacement boards (the mfg sent replacements to DSL) but we never received them. They got lost or something. Also my time is pretty rushed when I do stop in because it's an hour before showtime. I've had to wait 5-10 minutes at the register while some of the other family members chat it up with someone not ready to purchase. I understand the importance of chatting up some of your regulars, heck, I do it too but if I'm standing there with my credit card out or a wad of cash, that's a hint, lets ring me up and get me out of there. Other than those two things, I like the shop. Good people, really convenient. Our entire club is lit by them. Oh yah, I forgot to mention, besides lighting they carry lots of mics, speakers, mixers, cables, and vinyl. --toq **UPDATE** I'm gonna give Oscar the extra star. He just gave me a killer deal on an antari hz-300 hazer unit, so all is forgiven. read more

OK, so this place lost a couple stars for a couple reasons: When I called to confirm my rental pick-up, the dude Oscar went to check and had me on hold for 5 minutes... and when I called him back he was clearly inattentive because when I said, "I will be there around 2, or 3..." he paused and said, "Ok, you'll be here at 1?" What the...?! Anyhoo.. the 3 stars are definitely well deserved because they are very knowledgeable on equipment, the sales workers were pretty friendly, and the rental process was VERY smooth and easy. The fog machine I rented really came through for my neice's 13th birthday party, so I appreciate it!! read more

For many years, Dynamic Sounds has been providing the highest quality DJ, Pro audio and Lighting equipment for me. The showroom has evolved over the years, and is now an awesome display so that you can see and try out what you are getting. They got competitive prices, and will most likely work out a deal to fit your budget. The welcoming customer service is always great. Go see David S. (aka Dj Devious Dave) This guy not only knows the equipment inside & out, but more importantely, he is one of the most honest, nicest people that I know. I never feel like I am talking to a salesman with Dave, but rather a friend who happens to be a audio, lighting and video expert. This is why Westech Pro gets all of their equipment (including rentals) from Dynamic Sounds. Thank you Dynamic Sounds, Daniel D. read more

These guys are great. Yes they have great prices but it's the service that impressed me. They take the time to work with you answer any questions or concerns. I'm working on recording videos and been having issues working with that particular program. At Dynamic Sound they will take the time and show you how to use it even of you didn't buy it through them. That's pretty cool and so now I am now a client. It's great to still have businesses out there willing to teach you not just sell you. CLIENT FOR LIFE!!! read more

Probably one of the best lighting and sound stores in the bay area... I've come back to them again and again for very, very large setups (full stage sound and lighting productions), as well as small rentals (such as one fog machine). It's great to get to a good comfort level knowing the people you are working with have such a good knowledge and are willing to go the extra mile to help you with your show. Give them a shout whether you're purchasing and need advice, or trying to put on an awesome production / party. read more

Great place for renting DJ Equipment! I needed Speakers for a Pismo beach trip and they hooked me up with some Mackie's and all the accessories for 5 days but they only charged me 1 1/2 days!! The workers there are also extremely friendly and will tell you everything you need to know about their equipment. They also have this cool little cat that lounges around in the store lol. read more

WOW!! Kudos to the Dynamic team here in San Jose. Great recommendation from a friend (Tomas Sanchez) Walk into this store and you see these guys know what WE "THE PEOPLE" want. Top of the line set ups including lights, effects, and decorations. Everyone in this building are here to help you out. I told them I have a BUDGET and they told me they will not only HELP ME out there, but if they can make a BETTER deal with WELL KNOWN equipment and BRAND NAME then that's what they will do. I told them nothing too big just want to make so that i can have great sound for a cheap price FOR house parties and small events with my dance club or any other people OR BUSINESSES I work with. Most definitely I will tell all friends about this place... MORE BUSINESS SOON BECAUSE THEY TEMPTED ME TO GO LOUDER HA HA HA GREAT JOB GUYS read more

This is where I go to get my party equipment if I'm trying to make my function epic. Light rentals range from 20-30 bucks, but u r probably going to need a fog machine (which is kinda expensive for a rental I have to admit-$35) bc it does accentuate the light show. However, when u r partying n dancing u kind of forget to use the fog machine, but if u r doing an electro party, I def. rec it. I would come back to this shop just to get some ambient lighting for get-togethers. You can budget somewhere from 60-200 dollars for a decent lightshow party. They also lease dj equipment n speakers. This is ur one stop shop for dance party equipment. read more

I really wish this worked out better for the biggest day of our life...After a few months of trying to get a contract settled for our WEDDING, I had to unfortunately look for other options. Great shop! Nothing better than supporting a LOCALLY owned DJ shop! Very competitive in price - Maybe a few bucks more here and there, but worth it. Where else can you go and test out gear? Plus if you have a problem, you're not shipping it somewhere back east hoping for help. These guys will help out. Support the local business! read more

Best service/prices in town. You need it, they have it. And if they don't chances are the owner knows how to get it. Owner Oscar is the nicest guy and really fair to do business with. Example: Had a piece of equipment go south on me at an event. Oscar personally came out, swapped it, and insured the new unit was up and functional prior to leaving. You don't get that kind of service ANYWHERE. Especially on a weekend when the business is normally closed. read more

Dynamic-Sounds is an amazing place for any DJ. Their staff are extremely friendly and knowledgable about almost any item you can think of with dj''ing, sound, lighting and more. I have always been happy with my purchases here and would recommend this place to any dj looking for equipment. Please do yourself a favor and head down to Dynamic-Sounds in San Jose. You'll get great deals on equipment and meet some great people. They've also spent some time upgrading their shop. These people strive to be the best at what they do and it shows. read more

Yo.....this place......IS FREAKIN' INSANE! I mean I'm all about the customer service when it comes to businesses and they have excellent customer service. I went here 2 days in a row, and was greeted my the same person, Patrick, who is a really nice laid back fellow. I went there on Wednesday right before they were about to close and Patrick didn't mind helping me out and more. Im hosting a party today and I was looking for some killer lights to rent without breaking the budget. I checked out this place because of the yelp reviews on here, and these reviews are not fake. The service and the prices are unbeatable! Anyways, Patrick had an extensive knowledge of all the lights in the store. He booted up some EDM on their sound system there and turn on some of the lights in the store. And did I mention they have this HUGE black curtain that they close to block off all sunlight to show their demo's of their lights. Its pretty freakin awesome. Anyways, we immediately found what we wanted when we turned on the first two lights, then he explained to us their functions and all. He even covered the place with the fog machine, giving us a full "rave" experience. lol. Then for the fun of it, he turned on every light they had in the store and it was like a night club in there! Went back the next day to show some of my boys, and they absolutely loved the presentation also. Patrick explained the same stuff he explained to me the previous day and they were also amazed by his knowledge of the items and just really helpful personality. We will be going back today to rent the lights, and might I say, THEY ARE DIRT CHEAP. I mean the products they have are worth around hundreds of dollars and up, and they are renting it out for like 1 percent of the price. It is really mind blowing but just awesome at the same time. I know I will be back here in the future for more events, and I know that these guys could supply me with virtually everything I need! THANKS AGAIN PATRICK! read more

I have been doing business the first day Oscar took over this place and with him and his crew they have kept this place going for a long time. The company has grown to be really efficient and up to date with all the new gear. They have everything you need to get started or for rentals. The remodeling of the place looks the best I've seen in over 15 years. They will match prices against PSSL and Guitar Center. Thats pretty good for a small business. I recommend Dynamic Sounds for all you Dj Gear. San Jose Legends! read more

I don't write reviews very often but I felt like I really needed to for Dynamic Sounds the service was that great. I came in looking for DJ equipment to rent for my Graduation party and they were able to help me with everything I need all at an amazing price! They beat out Guitar Centers quote and the equipment worked great. The mixer that I came in asking for had been stolen and they were able to hook me up with a brand new Rane MKII which worked amazing. Thank you again Dynamic Sounds and I will definitely be coming back again!! read more

Oscar initially responded to my inquiry and questions with very short answers suggesting we speak over the phone but there were long periods of time he completely ghosted me. I was unable to get any sort of formal price quote... just vague quick answers once in awhile as if my business wasn't important. Ultimately he stopped responding completely, even after I complained about being ignored! read more

I bought two Gemini cd players from Dynamic sounds and when I took them home and played with them one of them was defective. I went back to Dynamic sounds and they tested the unit out and was defective. They loaned me one at no charge to get me through my upcoming events while the new replacement will arrive. When I was playing at the event the cd player they loaned me started to get disc errors and that put me in a bad spot. I called Oscar the owner but I got his voicemail and left a voicemail letting him know I have an emergency and that the cd player that was loaned to me was having problems. At the time the owner was in San Francisco doing an event so he was not in town. Two minutes later I get a call back from one of Oscars employees from Dynamic sounds letting me know he received an emergency call from me and what the situation was. He asked me then where I was playing at so he can bring me another cd player. He got there no later than 15 minutes and hooked up another cd player that worked perfectly. Let me ask you DJ's out there, would your supplier do the same for you? This guy takes care of his customers and he has always been there for me when I need anything for my business. They even price matches and there store is full of all types of nice and the latest products for DJ's and Clubs. There employees are all knowledgeable. Whenever I don't understand how to work the unit they take the time to educate me and show me how to operate my equipment. All you DJ's out there and Club owners, this is the place you need to be shopping at and there great service and awesome low prices. Check out their website as well to see the latest in DJ gear. They are always updating there webpage with new products and information and there sales. http://www.dynamic-sounds.com/ DYNAMIC SOUNDS THANKS FOR SAVING MY WEDDING EVENT AND ALWAYS BEING THERE FOR ME WHEN I NEED YOU GUYS!!!! read more

Hands down the best place for any of your party / DJ needs , with more than 30 years of experience , these guys know their history of equipment . These guys are just ok to me. Two stars? Pros- you can get a good deal sometimes on rental equipment. Cons- the NEVER have anything in stock. Who cares about the price when you have to wait weeks before they get it in stock. - I ordered a 62 rane last year and it took 3 weeks for them to call me - rude on the telephone- seems like they are in a rush to get off- maybe they are understaffed. If so, they should hire more people over all, i am all for supporting local businesses, but there are better alternatives then dynamic sound. read more

This place is AWESOME!!!! I buy all my gear here because their staff is very confident, professional and most importantly know what the product actually is, it's function and if it will be right for you. Their pricing is very, very competitive if not cheaper then some places. And they usually have the popular items in stock and if not, they can do a special order and asap the order. They also do sound and lighting installs. I have referred many nightclubs to these people with nothing but the highest compliments which in turn helps me out too. Another plus is that they are located mins from downtown which is where most of the clubs are located. In short Dynamic sound always puts it down for the dj and night clubs.... read more

I really want to say that this company is wonderful. Oscar, who works especially with lights, was extremely helpful. I am a high school music teacher, and wanted some special effects lighting for my end-of-the-year pops concert. It's always a big deal at my school & I wanted this year's to be really special. I didn't have tons of money or know-how, but Oscar helped me find just the right combination of truss, special lights, etc., at a reasonable rental price that I could afford. He came out to my school and gave us advice on how to set it up, and seemed to genuinely care about what we were doing. I can't say enough good about the people who run this place -- they were all very helpful and easy to work with. They helped to make my end-of-the-year event a great thing! I recommend this place highly! I will be a return customer. read more
