You could take your chances with a random Google listing, or you could call Buford General Contractors and get real professionals. Our job was a complex one. Our house is 40 years old and was suffering considerable wood rot on the deck that had spread into the side of the house. This caused not only a rickety, rotting deck, but water leaks in the house where the wood had rotted through. Not good! What started as a simple deck resurfacing turned into a complex job involving rebuilding the deck stairs, ripping out the old rotten wooden deck surface, replacing it with more durable surfacing that was resistant to rot, and this is the most hairy part.....finding the source of those water leaks and stopping them. One great thing about Buford is that they have great relationships with local subcontractors. If something is not their specialty, they have a Rolodex of numbers they can call for vetted, quality contractors to assist. This job required many specialties, and they coordinated with specialists to give us a great job done the first time. When big storms came after the job and there was still some leaking, they had a man onsite that day who quickly identified the source of an additional leak coming from rotted trim boards above the deck. This was very good and totally not their fault, as the trim boards above the deck were not part of the deck resurfacing, stair rebuilding and wood rot remediation of the deck itself. The price for this additional work was more than fair and it was done quickly and professionally. Seriously, if you live around Grapevine, Southlake, Colleyville or HEB, call them. They were always prompt, professional and reasonable. Not too expensive and not too cheap. You get what you pay for, after all.

It boiled down to Roof Doctors and one other company very quickly. The other company was just as patient answering my questions as Hugh, just as thorough in their answers (me, I'm a tad compulsive and I had a *lot* of questions), but for me the difference was that when I got busy and didn't get back to them, Hugh took the initiative to get back with me. Not in a pushy salesman way at all, but rather like someone I could depend on to carry the ball. And that held true throughout the process. I have a small house, a little over 1200 sf, and they had the roof on in two days. I had an aluminum tile roof and Hugh checked with me and, with my agreement, arranged for a recycler to collect the aluminum. After the holidays were over, Hugh followed up with me and installed my choice of venting. (I was considering solar attic fans but he clued me in that they don't have a rep for moving much air (I finally found the number: a mere 250 cfm -- think a really cheap range hood) and on top of that, the fact that the motors in these electric roof fans tend to last only 6 to 7 yrs. I was really glad for the enlightenment, and could see no point in adding to my maintenance chores for so little return on investment, so I went with the old style turbine.) Since when has a fair evaluation ever been insulting? 98% is excellent so if you want to risk 2% to be questionable aesthetically, structurally and "is this even legal" they'll probably be ok In my case that 2% is a big deal. They are extremely high priced. So with the price tag comes the expectation of awesome high end results. Not my experience.
