Sometime last week I set up a tour for an apartment that I saw on apartments.com. It was everything that my partner and I would have wanted and in a great location. I was connected to Carina Perez at Dwell. There was a slight scheduling issue where she told me one time was available, confirmed it, and then later told me I was coming in at a different time and the original time was taken. The big issue was that Carina told me my appointment was with a leasing office across the street from the apartment. She gave my information to that leasing office, who then reached out to me to confirm the appointment. I was confused on why I had to see a leasing agent before I viewed an apartment, so I emailed that agent to ask if I was viewing the specific address. The leasing agent was very nice but she told me that their company has nothing to do with the apartment Carina was trying to "show" me. We both emailed Carina but I didn't get anything back from her. I showed up to the apartment at the time we scheduled just in case and called Carina; it went to voicemail and she texted back to go to the leasing office!!! So, I did - I meet the leasing agent in person and she told me I'm not the first person this has happened to with the exact broker. I do not understand what happened there. It seems like a giant scam because this apartment isn't listed anywhere else besides apartments.com. Carina's texts to me were very rude, she told me she gave me all the information in the emails and that she was in another viewing so she couldn't talk, and then she never responded to anything else. The whole experience was very aggravating and confusing - luckily I still have time before I have to find an apartment, but if this happened to someone on a time crunch it would really screw them. read more

I contacted them via email telling them my need to find an apartment in Chicago due to a time sensitive move situation from Miami and exactly what type of apartment I was searching for and the 2800.00 maximum rent I would like to keep it to. I was emailed back by a Gina within an hour stating I would hear from her and she was my contact person. I reached back out within an hour of receiving the reply and unfortunately a couple more times as well. I also wasted my time calling the office and never once after the initial reply was I responded to after multiple calls and emails. Total waste of time and unprofessional behavior. I would recommend UrbanAbodes.com as within a day of contacting them I flew to Chicago and signed a lease 2 days after that. I started working with two agents from this company in hopes of finding a new place to live. Communication was present but seemed to be the bare minimum. I reached out via email asking for any updates, and I got minimal to no responses. It's been several weeks now, and I haven't heard anything. This review is long overdue. My experience with this company was great! Getting connected to an agent was easy. This 5 star rating mainly goes to our agent Marshall Lee who did a phenomenal job of finding my husband and I, an apartment that far exceeded our expectations. We were in a time crunch to find a place and were in the process of signing a lease with another agent when Marshall showed us the perfect place for us with a fantastic rent special. So perfect that we gladly took a slight loss on our deposit on the other place for backing out of the lease. We have been living at our current apartment for almost two months now and couldn't be happier. We feel like we are on vacation everyday! If you ever use Dwell, Ask for Marshall. He was not pushy at all like some other agents and really took into consideration our budget and likes. We look forward to working with him again. read more

Can't recommend. Jason Bunetta and team are not horrible, but they just don't want to do the work. My only main requirement was that I needed on-property parking with access to electricity. I basically said yes any place that has electricity should have power, can you just inquire and see how far the power is from the parking spot. If I say I need electricity, and you send me units without, and then say I'm not interested in those units... that makes sense I even sent the THREE DOZEN MLS #'s and they didn't check any. Basically this would require them to do more than cut/paste, and actually email/call the properties to see if I can use the spot. Ended up finding a place on CL and I literally email then called and it got confirmed that there was parking near my space. My rent was less than what they were showing. Agencies like this, and property owners make it really hard to help the environment, I don't even drive a full electric car, it takes gasoline too. Was working with an agent to coordinate a move as I am moving in from out of state. She showed me a listing, but it did not match what we wanted. I reached out to her, then never got a response back. I looked for an apartment on my own and found one no thanks to them. They asked me for so much information and I had high hopes they would help me, only to never respond back to my emails or text messages. I was excited when Dwelle Property Management purchased my building. They seem like a large, reputable company that would provide good service. However, our experience has been far from this. They have cut costs extremely. Maintenance is nearly non-existent, building cleaning used to be daily and is now monthly, carpet cleaning was weekly is now semi-annually, exterior cleaning was seasonally and has now been canceled. The nice building complements like flowers have been eliminated. In their place has been constant hassle from management with changes, attempts to force us to purchase additional products from them, incessant increases in prices, and poor customer service. If at all possible, I would avoid renting in a building that they manage. I've never complained about a landlord before but they are utterly terrible. read more

Terrible experience for me as well. The brokers lie repeatedly, even answering basic questions, and they pretend to work hard but people "don't get back to them". They expect to make a quick buck off of you, by doing the least amount of work - and then make you think you still have to be thankful to them. There are literally thousands of other brokers in the city, providing exactly the same service. Pick anyone else and you'll be fine. read more

Dan was a real pleasure to work with. We gave him a pretty long list of things we were looking for in a new apartment, and he promptly responded with several great options, all under budget! He took us around to them and gave us his honest thoughts on each unit. With his advice, we found our new home on our first day of looking. Signing the contract and handling payment of initial rent and fees was a breeze. He was very responsive with questions about the lease. I literally just signed a lease for a new apartment and I would give Kathy Meyer a five star review. She was helpful when it came to questions, helpful with providing me with all the information I needed, and was accommodating to my schedule.I am very excited to move into my new place and thanks to Kathy for finding me a great apartment that also had a discount! I give 4 stars because CLK was a little hasty. The 24 hour policy is kinda stressful and it added more stress than I needed while looking for an apartment. Most places give you at least 48-72 hours which is enough time to get all the documents, payments, and questions in place before you commit to a year long or longer lease. I understand making a quick profit but I think they need to be a little more accommodating to those with jobs. Anyway, thank you Kathy for finding a place that we love and that is under our budget! read more

It kind of makes me sad to see only negative reviews so far, because I had an absolutely wonderful experience with Dan Delaney at Dwell! I was finally flying out of the nest of my parent's two flat (yeah, I'm a late bloomer) into my own place. I tried to do the search on my own, and after a couple of disappointing apartment "look see's" (the Craigslist ads had been a bit misleading), I reached out to Dan at Dwell, who had previously assisted my company in securing a corporate apartment lease. Anyway, it was a Saturday afternoon. I was sitting in my car, angry over being misled by landlords and building managers that I was just about ready to give up the search. Then I remembered working with Dan and I decided to reach out to him. Since it was Saturday, and I figured I'd hear back from him on Monday. Not so! Within hours (and based on my wishlist), he had a detailed list of 10 or more listings for me to choose from. I wrote him back with my choices and by Monday we had appointments set up for that week. The one thing I was really worried about was sharing my apartment "wishlist" with Dan and wondering if he thought I was crazy because I'm uber picky. He was great - so patient, so understanding and welcomed all of my feedback, suggestions and ideas every single time. After finding a place that interested me, I followed up with a flurry of additional questions for the other listing agent and/or landlord and again Dan took care of everything. At lease signing time, there was a bit of an issue over the laundry in the basement, and even as I was ready to throw my hands up and give in, Dan stood his (our) ground and got me what I wanted. Bottom line, Dan handled everything from start to finish in a timely and professional manner. I am a busy professional, and it was nice to have Dan on my side to keep the stress of the search off of my mind. Dan is also friendly, funny, with an easy going personality, you will get along with him instantly. Doing this search with him was a lot of fun and not stressful in the least. Megan Nuttall is a machine. If you are planning on relocating to Chicago from another city, get in touch with her!!!! My girlfriend and I are relocating from Nashville, and were researching apartments via numerous internet websites (Zillow, Trulia, etc.). We had planned on coming up to Chicago for two full working days to follow up on the properties that we had researched. We were both ready to attempt to begin coordinating with property owners for the two day period when I stumbled upon the Dwell Chicago website. Not only were nearly all of the apartments we were interested in already among the Dwell Chicago listings, but the company also claimed to provide full-service real estate brokerage, for FREE! Of course I thought, "too good to be true". So I dug, and dug, and dug to try and find the loophole that locked customers to some financial compensation for the company's efforts, but it simply wasn't there. Plus, I knew that I was in way over my head and could definitely use the professional assistance, despite any cost involved. (UPDATE: It turns out that they are actually paid by the property owners to help connect the dots from Tenant to Landlord. So it seems that, truly, everyone wins.) So I got in touch with Dan, who set us up with Megan. I provided her the listings that we were interested in, as well as our expectations for a potential apartment (rent cost, hardwood flooring, natural light, neighborhood, etc.). She got hard to work and quickly set up appointments to all of the listings and even safeguarded us away from listings that didn't fit our requirements, so not to waste our 48 hours in Chicago. (NOTE: She provided all of this within a four day notice before our arrival) After the schedule was set. We flew out and met her at the first listing. We checked it out, she provided all of the details of the apartment and gauged our interest in it to understand exactly what we needed. She took us to the remaining listings in her car, which was unbelievably convenient, all while she explained the neighborhoods of Chicago, and important points to know about them. When all was said and done, Megan got us a great apartment in Rogers Park. Upon arrival, Megan knew about other showings on the unit and told us that it would be very competitive. (Which was something I wouldn't have known if I tried to book the viewing myself). She was extremely persistent with the property owners, and quickly expedited our application to put us ahead of the other applicants. We got back in Nashville, at 7 this morning, and Megan called at 3 to inform and congratulate us on getting the unit. It was truly an incredible experience. I couldn't even imagine trying to accomplish what we did if we were on our own. read more

Had the worst experience with Dwell that I've ever had looking for an apartment. Obviously we are in the middle of a pandemic, so stress is high, but Dwell made our stress skyrocket. My partner and I found our dream apartment, way under our budget. We were told to act fast, so we scrambled to get all the info together, send over 1st months rent, credit check fees and paperwork. A few hours later we hear that we need a cosigner for the apartment. Huh?? I'm 28 and my partner is 32, both with great credit and savings but we need a cosigner? It was because we weren't working full time DUE TO THE PANDEMIC. If this wasn't going on, we would be full-time at our stable jobs, but that was considered our fault by Dwell. After treating our potential cosigners like crap, we find out they haven't even sent our info to the landlord. I feel like they never actually sent it over, because it took almost 12 hours to hear back, and the "landlord" said the exact same things they said. Took me another 12 hours to get my 1st months rent back. I've never been treated like this looking for an apartment in my life. Never again. read more

I worked with Carina on my recent apartment search in Chicago, and she could not have done a better job. She was responsive immediately, and sent me listings I had not considered while browsing. We ended up choosing an apartment that Carina suggested we look at, and I am so happy with it. She made the process easy, and was in constant contact with me to make sure I knew where we were going, what we were seeing, and gave me the pros and cons of each apartment. I cannot say enough good things about Oliver Patterson. I'm moving from CA and had a 4 day trip (including travel time) to secure an apartment. Prior to working with Oliver, I went around and contacted a few other agents from different rental companies. I was astonished by the unprofessional manner of several of the agents I worked with. From those experiences, I had no confidence that I would be able to secure a new home. THANKFULLY, an apartment listing popped up on Craigslist with Dwell. I was reassured by the high reviews of Dwell on Yelp. I called the main line, Oliver emailed me a day later and I am thrilled he did. Oliver is easygoing, funny and down to earth. He is prompt with email, texts, and phone calls, which was not the case with other agents I worked with. He gave great advice, recommendations of bars and restaurants, and had a lot of knowledge about Chicago neighborhoods and culture. He gave his honest opinion about each apartment and even interior design tips, which was super helpful. From the list of about 17 apartments, we visited three and I fell in love with one. I wanted the evening to think about it and in this time, Oliver sent me a few other listings to browse with an offer to take us to see them the following day. I highly recommend working with Oliver, particularly if you are new to the area. He's awesome. read more

Our agent was actually pretty good while showing us a couple of the available units in Lincoln. Listened to my wife and I and was very reassuring while not being overly pushy like some agents tend to be. However, we set the expectation for what our move in dates were and he seemed willing be be flexible and work with the landlord, so we went through with the approval and application process ($60 per person). In our application we put in our earliest move in date about a month away from application date. Fine. Now here's were things go downhill. We were being pressured to accept an earlier lease than we had discussed, way earlier than our preferred and 2 weeks earlier than our "earliest" move in date. I'm sure this was more from the landlord but once we decided not to go through with it because CLEARLY we didn't want to agree to a move in date we never even discussed the possibility of, he accuses my wife and I of being dishonest and saying that we agreed to the earlier date. No, we didn't, and we have the application documentation to prove it. I won't call the guy out, but definitely will never be doing business with this agency again. Bait and switch tactics, so beware. read more

Dealing with Dwell Chicago Inc was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. I do not recommend them at all. I had made an appointment with Kathy Meyer 6 days in advance, to accommodate HER schedule. I (myself) checked within the week on two separate occasions/days to see if the appointment was still standing. I got "confirmed!" via text from her. I wrote her the day before the appointment and stated since I'll be in the area, if theres any other places she can show me (tomorrow). She stated I should send her my info of criteria but for tomorrow probably not. I was OK with that. The next day, I show up 5 minutes early to our appointment, text her, and her response is "I'll need to reschedule as Im in the suburbs helping my mom move since I thought I had no clients." With crying sad emojis... I wrote her that I just traveled for an hour and a half to get to our appointment on my last day off of my vacation and received NO RESPONSE. To make it worse, I get an email from her colleague like nothing happened saying she'll be happy to show me the property. I told her that I got stood up by her colleague and she said "Im so sorry but I'll be happy to show it to you". Are you kidding me? Travel another 1.5 hours for maybe someone to be there? Forget it, never again. read more

I've got to say I'm really disappointed with how deceptive Dwell brokers are -- especially in the Lincoln Square area. Having lived in the area for well over 14 years I can tell you that they outrageously over price their properties and will use bait-and-switch tactics to lure in potential renters. I have also had them attempt to convince me that the living room of a one bedroom apartment is actually a second bedroom, hence the higher price for the place. Buyer beware when working with these people to find housing. If that is the level of professionalism they display when showing the places, imagine what kind of a job they do when you're actually under contract... read more

It started off well, I was trying to rent my condo. My agent seemed responsive and I was always contacted with info after the showings. But after a few weeks I was the one asking about the outcome of showings, suggesting marketing tactics to increase interest, and asking for new ads. I started to wonder what I was paying them for. When I did get a prospective tenant that didn't have a 400 credit score, I got a basic application, a rudimentary credit report that was difficult to read, and I was the one on the phone calling old landlords, and verifying employment. I also couldn't find my listing anywhere on the "dozens" of sites it was supposed to be listed on. My overall impression was that they really started to slack off when they didn't get a quick lease/make a quick profit. read more

Dan Close is a rock star. He doesn't waste any time on showing you the apartments you don't want to see and if you wind up wanting to buy? Dan's also a real estate broker. This is a win-win. He responds to e-mails late at night and works really, really hard to get you the listings you want. I think we looked at six places and got the one we wanted. Dan negotiated all of the terms-- some of which were fairly complex-- and we got in at the time we needed to. We will use Dan as long as he wants the business and I unhesitatingly recommend him and Dwell to anyone looking for a home in Chicagoland. read more

My Dwell Chicago agent was David. The apartment find was quick and very efficient. He was informative and worked within my finances to find the apartments that fulfilled my top requirements(close to the restaurants and updated kitchen, bathroom). I was open to increase the monthly rental for more space but he was honest that I'd be sacrificing my top requirements. At the end, we didnt waste time seeing apartments I didnt care for. The day of the viewing, we only needed to look at two apartments because they both met my requirements and it gave me options. The paperwork only took 20-30 minutes. He continued to update me about the process even after the paperwork was completed. It was a pleasure to work with him and refer him to my friends. read more

Travis Govan found me my first place in Chicago coming from another state. He is DA MAN! This guy was trustworthy, and fought like a dog to get me my place, I was happy to write him his commission check because he totally deserved it! After two years at this place, I was got to know the area much better, and was able to find my own new place; but man, he got me in safe area, close to the redline, (5 minutes) great owner, and a beautiful condo with W/D in unit without breaking the bank. It was close to the grocery store, a bank, etc....I would have stayed here indefinitely, but eventually I'd like to buy my own place! Thanks Travis! Hope you're still at it! read more

So I met my Dwell Agent, Dave, through an online apartment posting. What I received, was superb service and attention. There was never a time I couldn't reach him, and he made sure we saw every apartment we sought out to. He was professional, attentive, and so much fun to work with. This process isn't easy for many, especially when what you want is not within your price range. He made sure I had options, and was an excellent liaison to the different property managers we met. She told me to text her when I was outside, when I did so and also called she never responded. Complete waste of time. Advised the agt Jennifer of our timeframe to relocate from Detroit to Chicago was tight,(we had a week to find a place) & our budget. They told us it wouldn't be a prob, Agt was 30 minutes late the 2 days we met with her, without apology. Was disorganized & kept taking us to an apt that she didn't even have keys to show us on 2 sep. occasions. Kept telling us that "she was showing us the best that was avail. in our price range", then proceeded to show us ghetto apts in slummy areas that mimicked our surroundings in Detroit. One of the apts in Wicker Park had 5 locks on the back door, signs of forcible entry, and a hobo-camp in the back yard, with trash, sleeping bags & a makeshift tent (I am not KIDDING.) Misquoted price of a beautiful condo in Bucktown, told us it was $795 only to tell us later that it was $1300+ a month!!! Found a condo in the same bldg, were congratulated on "our new place," were advised to "take our time, because no one else had applied for it or was interested." Agt would not give us a paper application, we felt like we were begging her to do her job, no sense of urgency & poor communication with us, her, and the leasing company. DISCLAIMER: Jennifer seemed really nice & empathetic as a person, but seeing as how this is a review of the service she was supposed to provide, I feel it necessary to write this, because in the end did not come through for us. Finally she emailed us the application (2 days later), we applied, only to be sent an EMAIL telling us that the apt had been applied for by someone else. She never bothered to call us to let us know & kept pushing us to rent in far away/high crime areas that did not meet our criteria.( no carpeting, not far from CTA & the expressway.) Ended up finding an apartment on our own via Craigslist at the last minute. read more

So I literally just left a "showing" for an apartment with Dwell. I made the appointment yesterday and confirmed via text and call. When I get to the property the agent is late 20 mins to be exact, then she didn't have the key to show the unit so she calls the tenant to let her in the front door and the tenant then tells her oh I'm not moving anymore. This has got to be the most unprofessional experience I have ever dealt with in my life. Dwell Chicago needs to take lessons in professionalism. read more

Dwell is great! I have already used them twice. Dan Delaney wad my agent when I moved from CA to Chicago and he made it so easy and pleasant to find a place - even from across the country! Got a place that I adore and I've referred many happy customers to them. When my BF and I decided to move in together- of course we called Dwell. This time our agent was Dan Close. He worked so hard to find us our perfect place and let me tell you- we aren't easy please. He wad super professional and patient. Now they're helping me sublet my old pla d. Awesome customer service. So hunting for an apartment is a hug pain in the butt, and I will tell you my experience was a nightmare and extremely unlucky. However if it wasn't for Dan Delaney at Dwell Chicago I wouldn't be writing this review right now! Not only did Dan and Dwell bend over backwards for me, but he emailed me personally everyday and texted/called me with updates on every apartment listing. We drove around town for three days looking at units and he took care of all the paper work...he picked us up and dropped us off! I had a hard budget and timeline to work with...plus my demands and expectations on the unit....and I needed to find a place in a week and move in ASAP.....Dan found us a place and we came in under budget!! At Dwell I only needed to fill out one application and submit one information packet and that was it!!! NO MORE paying $20-$80 every time you apply, that's crazy!!! At Dwell with Dan I was charged once and I applied to about 10 different units....you do the math...I saved a ton!!! If you want and honest and hard working agent I would highly recommend Dan Delaney!!! He took the time to really understand what I wanted and what my needs were....I never saw a unit I didn't like!!!
