Vending machine at Dwaynes
Bruce K.

I'm a sucker for repeated billboards and "fresh jerky" for the last several miles hooked me. I couldn't fight it and stopped. Homemade jerky and fudge and pecans and pistachios and jams and honey and even olives. I bought a bag of spicy beef jerky and that was my evening snack. It didn't even make it out of Arizona before I'd eaten it. This stop even has a few gas pumps out front. While the store does have regular operating hours, there is a vending machine out front with some of their products. It accepts cash and cards! [Review 17491 overall - 78 in Arizona - 1009 of 2022.]

This is a Great place to stop for a break or for over night. We have stayed at the RV Park for the last 19 yrs. It consistently moves in the right direction ~ Always improving! Full hook-ups, 30/50 amp, water & sewer. Spaces are wide and the whole park is gravel. Tom, the camp host, is a great guy! Very friendly and helpful. Restrooms have showers and there is a laundromat. The store has every kind imaginable of Jerky, pistachios & dried fruits. Very popular Pecan Pie. Next to the store is a food truck. Everything we tried has been EXCELLENT! Yes, there are fast food joints at other exits, but WHY?? Stop in, you won't regret it. If you are going by after hours, there are two vending machines that you can purchase Jerry, Nuts & Dried Fruit at the front of the store. They also offer Propane, Air Pump, & Ice.

Cute place. Homemade pie, jelly's, olive oil and of course jerky. Stop in for some snacks, gas up and buy a souvenir

The "brisket jerky" billboards caught my husband's eye so we made a stop. I was pleasantly surprised!! Don't let the fact that it's out in the middle of nowhere fool you, it is a very nice specialty store with jerky, olives, honey, and more. Worth the stop! It's not far from the highway at all. Stretch your legs and grab some specialty snack for the road. The restrooms are also much cleaner than most gas station bathrooms - again, pleasantly surprised.

Another worthwhile stop on the interstate. After tasting several flavors, we bought a few jerkies and nuts. Prices seemed fair for the quality. Interesting shop and decorations adorn the wall (see photo ).

This is a great place to stop for refreshments if you're traveling along I-10. The jerky is amazingly flavorful and tasty. I tried the turkey and the Hot & Spicy beef. Both made my road trip much easier and quelled my road hunger! I didn't stop there: I indulged my insatiable chocolate craving, & bought the chocolate fudge which was amazing as well. The staff are incredibly friendly & helpful, and go out of their way to provide great service. They will ship online as well if you don't find yourself out in that lonely stretch of highway.

This is probably the best place for jerky and pistachios. The customer services here is outstanding.

I was not "just passing through." It was a trip made with the sole purpose of buying some of Dwayne's jerky.

You can't compare this beef to store bought "grass fed" beef. There's a lot of trickery in those…read morelabels. Do your research folx. Here's the short version. We bought 2 ribeyes, they came out like crap, we threw them away and I was pretty annoyed. But, I did my researched, realized it was my fault and learned how to cook properly raised beef. Is the store bought stuff delicious? Yeah. Does it have traces of feces in it? Yeah. Is smoking relaxing? Yeah. Does it kill you? Yeah... Since my screw up I've had to relearn how to cook good food. We've tried many cuts and cooked them many ways. Charcoal grill, outdoor flat top, cast iron, oven baked, stove stop stew, slow cooker... We're currently saving to buy a quarter share of beef (should be close to $1000) and just put in a new chest freezer to hold most of it. If that's any indication of how I feel about this beef and how I've learned how to cook it, I hope it helps your decision. I've had many other "grass fed" beefs, and I can't knock them all. But DCR is at my local farmer's markets, so that's why I buy from them. You have plenty of choices, they are convenient and deliver what I'm looking for. Properly raised beef that is dense, full of nutrition and grown naturally. You know, like how our grandparents used to eat. My Grandpa is getting close to 100 and my great grandma lived to be 103. They grew up on farms and at food like this. They also drank and smoked heavily. So, what's killing everyone today?

Barbeque is quintessential American cuisine. The "low and slow" cooking with meat and smoke is…read moreunique and uniquely delicious in the culinary world. Regional styles like Memphis, Kansas City, Texas and others all have their own wonderful nuances. And while there isn't a distinct Arizona style, we're pretty good at throwin' something dead on the smoker here. And that's just what they do at The Bashful Bandit in Tucson. Their ribs and sausages are good. The brisket is lean, but very flavorful. I didn't get to try the chicken, but the highlight was the pulled pork. If there were an Arizona style BBQ it would be something like this. They cheat the competition rules, but I'm okay with that. They put some green chile in the pulled pork and it's an absolute killer. Not so killer was their coleslaw. It was as sour as the face on my ex-wife and as bland as the seggs we had before she broke up with me. And while I never had a side dish, the side dishes here (apart from the coleslaw) were all yummy. Really good mac and cheese, top shelf cowboy beans, and a potato salad that was dressed in dill and tasting mighty fine. Speaking of dressed, I like my BBQ naked, but if you need sauce (sissy) then go for the house sauce. Great flavor, just a little heat, and just a little sweet - very balanced. The spicy sauce was just okay and the mustard sauce might as well have just been French's Mustard from a two-dollar squirt bottle. Most importantly, while you're wiping the house sauce off your greasy lips, go back to the counter and do yourself a favor, order their appropriately and hilariously named "Smoked Crack Pie." It's an other worldly happy ending to your meal (didn't see that coming, didja?). This thing is a simple but genius dessert. They take a chocolate chip cookie covered in a vanilla custard topping and put it in the smoker. It's got a gooey consistency like a pecanless pecan pie and tastes like if your favorite brownie and crème brûlée had a baby (I'm honestly not sure how that would work...it's weird just to imagine the mechanics really...). Anyhow, don't be bashful, get to The Bashful Bandit in Midtown Tucson and git yerself a case of the meat sweats. You won't regret it.

The highlights for me amongst their 'que are the chopped brisket, the Sonoran hot links (which definitely bring the heat!), and the smoked jackfruit. While I'm an omnivore, I really love that they have meatless options for when I'm not feeling like eating meat. I enjoyed their sides as well. The Sunflower Crunch Salad is a nice no-mayo coleslaw with seeds and fruit that give it some nice textural and flavor contrasts. The Dill Potato Salad is on the lighter side for a potato salad (this is a compliment), with some bright herbaciousness. The Mac & Cheese, by contrast, is super heavy and rich. They round out the plate nicely! The staff are friendly and quick to help adjust orders if there's something you wanted that they're out of.
