Of the three tasting rooms we visited this day, Carlson Creek was our favorite. Our hostess Lucy, was very informative and welcoming. Conversation just flows when enjoying the wines in this cute little building which was a former home. We could easily have spent the afternoon drinking and chatting with Lucy. The 2010 Chardonnay and the 2012 Sweet Adeline Riesling were our favorites and M and I took home a bottle of each. Thumbs up for Carlson Creek!

We had a wonderful experience at this "little house" tasting room. Our server, Ingeborg, was very knowledgeable and friendly. The charming setting and Ingeborg are a perfect match for comfortable and casual tasting. We liked all of the wines we tasted. Though we usually drink reds, we tried a couple of the whites. We liked the Sauvignon Blanc so much that we bought a couple of bottles. (The two for one daily special on the Sauvignon Blanc was an added incentive.) We also liked the Mourvedre and purchased a bottle of that. We have a really nice try tip roast and we are looking forward to having the Mourvedre with our tri-tip.

Located downtown Wilcox, near a few other tasting rooms, was this shining star: Carlson Creek. This tasting room is located on the "other side of the tracks" along a cute row of little houses with white picket fences. While the tasting room is small, we were lucky to have a private tasting around a cozy little bar. The woman pouring was very friendly too! Most of their wines have won awards, making it hard to choose what to taste. I really liked the Chardonnay, but also the 2012 Sangiovese. Tastings were 50% off with the AZ wine travel card ($20) and you also get a 10% off discount when you purchase 3 or more bottles.

Love the wine, enjoyed the conversation and story behind the vineyard. I really like the logo. You even get to keep the glasses with a tasting. It's a must go on the wine tour of southern AZ.

The $5 wine tasting in a cozy setting.

My husband is not a fan of wine; however, I am a wine fanatic! We found this place while driving from Dallas to Phoenix and we both highly enjoyed ourselves at the $5 wine tasting. The staff was very polite and the wine was to die for! I enjoyed the Chardonnay and the spicy Sangiovese while my husband loved the Riesling and blanc. It was the best of both worlds! Sweet, spice and everything nice. Great cozy place to stop with family while making a road trip.

    Lovely bottles if wine!

BACKGROUND One of…read moremy favorite qualities I love about my mom is how she always loves getting out and exploring. She's had the exploring bug ever since I can remember. Getting to go on those trips with her is one of the things I miss most about traveling so much. One trip I missed that she frequently spoke fondly about is wine tasting in Willcox, Arizona. WILCOX WINES: THE HISTORY The history of Arizona's wine industry actually began in pre-Prohibition days. Back then, Arizona had more grapes than California. From Prohibition to 1980's it was illegal to make wine in Arizona. In 1982, Arizona passed a series of laws that enabled and regulated the activities of a new class of liquor license, the Domestic Farm Winery. In 2005, a Supreme Court ruling made parts of Arizona's wine laws unconstitutional. In 2006, the passage of SB1276 brought Arizona's wine laws into compliance with the Supreme Court's ruling which caused a resurgence in the Arizona wine industry. There are currently approximately 80 wineries in Arizona, in three main regions: Sonoita, Elgin and Willcox/Verde Valley. Willcox is about one hour southeast of Tucson. There are wine festivals held twice each year: the third weekend in May and the third weekend in October. THE STORY I finally had the opportunity to go with my mom to the last Willcox Wine Tasting Festival. The main tent setup is downtown, in the historic railroad section. That area is also where many of the Arizona wineries have local store fronts, like Flying Leap, Aridus, and Carlson Creek. When you arrive, you can purchase tickets which allow you to sample any of the many selections from the participating wineries. My favorite find was the Viognier from Aridus. There is also live music and most of the local restaurants are open. My favorite was Rodney's, a tiny shop where you order at the shop window from Rodney, and he serves your food out back on their outdoor patio. CONCLUSION The Willcox Wine Tasting Festival is very charming and super fun! 5/5 RECOMMEND OF NOTE *The next Willcox Wine Tasting Festival is May 19-20, 2016. *For more information: http://www.willcoxwines.com

We arrived around 3:30 PM so the tasting room was still open and we were able to taste 5 one ounce pours for $12. We asked specifically for dry wines and were very happy with the different wines that we tasted. I highly recommend the 2021 Chardonnay, that is the one we ended up purchasing. My husband enjoyed the Sangiovese as well. We had a nice quiet evening here and definitely recommend the wines.

I made a promise to myself to one day visit the vineyard in Wilcox, AZ. When that day came I found myself in downtown Wilcox where they had a tasting room but was now closed. So with a little investigation I found that they moved the tasting room to the vineyard. Brand spanking new tasting room located in the Barrel Room. What a beautiful site located at 4200 feet and about 280 acres of vines. This is the place where the best wine juice comes from. The reds are bold and the whites are crisp and suttle. Quiet and relaxing, some tables outside to sip and take it all in. No food at this time only wine. I finally made it to Wilcox....breath taking and refreshing. Pallets are like noses, we all have one. To me Carlson Creek Wines are the best in Arizona. Come check it out!
