My apartment complex managers mentioned that I could call Alfreds and get a quote. As soon as I contact Alfred's they let me know that because I do not own apartment they cannot give me a quote. I tried to explain that I won't be moving forward with the quote that I just want to make sure I am not being screwed over by my apartment. Obviously they are buddy buddy with the owner and care more about that relationship than helping those in Ames. I would HIGHLY recommend NOT using Alfreds.

Inventory seems to always be pretty well stocked. The layout can be a little confusing at times, especially if you're trying to find something that you saw on their website. Yes, the aisles are labeled, but they can be a bit off, which adds to the confusion. The store is kept clean and organized; nothing is scattered around or lying in the aisles. The employee interactions that we have had have been somewhat mediocre. The first time we had to ask a question about something, the employee that we interacted with was very pleasant and greeted us with a smile. She walked around to make sure that we found what we were looking for and answered all of the questions that we had. She was very patient with us. The second time that we had to ask an employee a question, he seemed very annoyed that we were even there, let alone asking him a question. He gave us a very simple answer and then walked away without even clarifying what he had just told us or making sure that we found what we were looking for. It seems pretty hit or miss, which is kind of expected at such a large place.

There is plenty of parking in its private lot, and its location is less than a mile from Highway 30 and the 35/30 junction in Ames. We were impressed by the assistance we received from Gina and Myles. They genuinely cared about our end game and were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Gina tipped us off about a product and then walked us through the many options, while Myles was so kind as we thought through key needs. This store really works, and will be a prime option moving forward!

A few years ago we purchased a smaller home than the one we had raised our children. The small…read morekitchen took a lot of getting use to. A major problem was the blind corner cabinet. My wife, and sometimes myself, hand to sit on the floor and pull everything out of the shelves to reach the blind corner. This meant crawling part way in to the cabinet. A number of places would sell a "cloud" shelf that would pullout and move around the opening making the objects from the back of the blind corner to the front so it could be retrieved without sitting on the floor. Problem. Whereas several places sold such a shelf no one was willing to install a retrofit. They were only willing to do a complete remodel. Remodel a two year old kitchen? We were not looking to spend that much on our project. Then we found N-hance. We explained our problem and the owner understood. He came out listened to our dilemma, took the needed measurements and in a couple of days we had a reasonable bid. It took a week or ten day for the items to come in and the owner and his son did the install. The new shelves glide so smoothly, even with heavy pots and pans. And no more sitting on the floor. We are so pleased with the work Jesse and his son Harlan did. He made making meals so much easier.

This place gets a 2 instead of one because their sales staff and the actual products they carry are…read moregood. The selection is great and the staff in store is knowledgeable. Where it falls apart is the install. They hire bottom of the barrel workers to actually install the products. There was not a single thing they didn't screw up on install. Because I don't want you to think I'm being dramatic I'll include pictures..... 1. Appliances- we ordered super nice LG cafe appliances from the store. We waited....and waited...and waited. Finally when the day they were suppose to arrive (ordered in February it was now late April) we called and found out they wouldn't be in until December. We had to have something as we moved in to a new house with no appliances. So, we bought a second set that they gave us a "good deal" on. When they arrived, they were clearly used appliances (food in the microwave and crumbs in the oven). However, none of this compares to the splinted mess they left in my beautiful custom cabinets when they drilled a hole for the microwave (pictured). Total disregard for someone else's craftsmanship. 2. Carpet- the carpet was ok on install. There was the normal drywall dings and paint scrapes. The transitions were sloppy but, not the end of the world. My biggest complaint is they didn't clean up after themselves. There was fuzz and carpet pieces everywhere. We spent hours vacuuming just so it didn't look like a shag rug exploded. 3. Tile- Tile 101- use the same batch for the entire floor. If this is not possible mix the batches to insure you don't have a chunk of tile that was noticeably different. They didn't do this and we ended up with a section by our doorway that is noticeably darker than the rest. In addition their gout job was sloppy and there were low spots and spots where thinset was poking through. Once again, no clean up was done. Gout was all over the walls and splattered on tiles. We did call them on this and were given a discount and a worked came back and cleaned up. However, I have to look at the mismatched tile everyday (picture). Bottom line...hire your own installer if you buy product from here.
