Anywho, my husband recalled the pillowy, chewy paczkis we got from Maplewood Meats, courtesy of Smurawa's. But for a craving this bad, we knew we needed to go to the source and forego the supplier. And we only had half an hour to get there. We walked in with 15 minutes to spare. The gal behind the counter (Amara) made us feel like we had all the time in the world. There weren't many paczkis in the case, but Amara informed us she had empty pastries in the back and she could fill them with just about any flavor we wanted, and it would only take 10 minutes for her to fill them. We ordered one of each of the following: Cherry, raspberry, French cream, peanut butter cream, chocolate cream, custard and cream cheese. She gave us the option of coating with powdered sugar or granulated. We chose powdered. So we bought (though all were amazing, I've listed my favorites starting from the most) a kneecap, a glazed croissant, apple fritter, Danish krispie and banana cheesecake chimichanga.
