WOW! A well-deserved 5 star review for Ziggy's…read more We moved to Boston from California and were extremely disappointed to learn that the beloved family-owned donut shops with the paper bags and pink cardboard boxes that we grew up with are practically nonexistent in MA. We've tried SO many donut shops only to be met with Dunkin-like quality or obscenely trendy flavors. Well, we had some time to kill in Salem today and figured we'd give another donut shop a try. First, customer service was IMPECCABLE; the lady working the counter was extremely friendly and walked us through all our flavor options (I believe her name was Patty). We even had a nice conversation to go with our donuts. They have a great selection of flavors, but we decided on: Jimmies donut, chocolate glaze, boston cream pie, jelly filled, cinnamon, and apple cider. My favorite was the Jimmie donut; upon first bite, I was immediately reminded of the family donuts I loved throughout my childhood. All in all, I would highly recommend Ziggy's if you're looking for AUTHENTIC, delicious donuts; don't waste your time at any other donut shop! Thank you Ziggy's for solving our quest for the perfect donut! P.S. Patty: hope your easter ham turned out well :)

I have to admit that I went into Dandee Donut Factory with very high expectations, which tends to…read morebe the death knell for most places as it's tough to meet those expectations. Well not today!!! Everything about this place was perfect. First, we were greeted by the most fabulous members of the team. They were charming and funny and they loved on my daughter's service dog. Second, they gave the greatest advice on the donut offerings and all of their advice was GOLD! I have to admit that I haven't sunk my teeth into allllll of the donuts we bought yet, but so far I can tell you that the sour cream glazed and peanut Snickers are amazing amazing amazing. BUT the apple fritter actually made me cry. It is so good that I cannot put it into words. Crispy outside and tender inside with the perfect balance of sweetness. I'm telling you, they need an award for this darn thing! Listen people, come to Dandee Donuts and soak in the staff's awesomeness, but make sure to listen to their wisdom on what they're selling. It's totally worth it.

I had also seen Phil Hates Gluten talk about their gluten\-free donuts, so I thought it would be a good place to try for my daughter, who has celiac disease\. I asked for two gluten\-free donuts\. The man helping me immediately asked, "How many donuts in total do you want?" I told him it didn't really matter because the gluten\-free donuts needed to be kept in a separate bag from the regular donuts\. He asked me AGAIN how many donuts I wanted in total, and his attitude was extremely rude and dismissive\. The other man helping us also had a bad attitude\. The whole interaction made me feel like asking about keeping the gluten\-free items separate was somehow an inconvenience\. Then, while I was standing there, a woman behind me heard our conversation and warned me not to get the gluten\-free donuts if they were for someone with celiac disease\. She told me her sister has celiac and had gotten sick after eating there\. That obviously concerned me, so I looked more closely at the donut case and saw the gluten\-free donuts displayed right next to the regular donuts\. For someone with celiac disease, cross\-contact is a serious concern, and seeing that made me uncomfortable enough that I decided not to take the chance\. I understand that "gluten\-free" does not always mean "celiac\-safe," and I don't expect every bakery to be able to guarantee a completely gluten\-free environment\. But if you are going to advertise gluten\-free donuts, your staff should at least be able to answer questions about cross\-contact respectfully and understand why a customer might ask for them to be packaged separately\. What bothered me most was the attitude\. I wasn't being difficult -- I was simply trying to keep my daughter safe\. A little kindness and understanding would have gone a long way\.
