Kane's Donuts has the best donuts in the area. The donuts are decent sized, flavorful, and has a lightly crisp outer with a soft inner. Their gluten free (gf)/dairy free (df) donuts are also really good and actually preferred by many members of my family, as they are so moist and melt in your mouth. There are many options to choose from, along with monthly specials which are usually fun! Some of my favorites include their Boston cream, gf/df chocolate frosted, and their holiday themed donuts. My husband loves their gf/df glazed donut. Another big hit is their ginormous cinnamon roll! It's so flavorful and feeds many with its size. Their muffins are a huge hit and barely last in our house. Their bacon, egg, and cheese on a plain bagel is also pretty good. My husband is picky about coffee and doesn't mind theirs. Sometimes they have cupcakes available and they are so moist, full of flavor, and one of my absolute favorite things to get. The staff is usually friendly, but there are some staff that aren't as friendly as others. There is both indoor and outdoor seating available, however it is pretty small and when the line is long it comes close to the tables. read more

Made a stop at Kane's Donuts and picked up three donuts. One strawberry, lemon poppyseed, and Maine blueberry. The strawberry donut was soft with a sweet glaze that actually tasted like real strawberries, not that fake candy flavor. The lemon poppyseed had a nice citrusy kick, a little more dense than the others, but in a good way. The Maine blueberry was the standout. Bursting with flavor and the glaze wasn't overly sugary. You could taste actual blueberry in every bite. They're definitely on the bigger side. Everything felt fresh and made with care. The shop itself is laid back, no rush, has that Massachusetts vibe to it. Prices are a little higher than your average donut shop, but the quality is there. Solid spot if you're into creative flavors that still feel homemade. Highly recommend. read more

Best donuts I've ever had. Been going here since I was a kid over 40 years ago. The cake donuts have a nice little crunch to them. They have a wide variety to choose from. And the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I was bringing a box on an airplane and placed an order the night before. Highly recommended! read more

This is a must when visiting. At least that is what I was told. So I went. They were sold out of Boston cream ones when we got there but did have 1 Boston cream pie left. The pie was just too big for us to carry back home on our flight to Tampa. Cute donut shop with friendly staff. Welcomed us and helped us with making our selection. We got 6 to take back home with us and enjoy on our way to the airport. My fav was the blueberry!! So large and so much flavor. I even got my friend a GF blueberry and she loved it! Ridiculously overpriced donuts It costs approximately $0.20 - $0.50 to make a donut. It is absolutely absurd that an establishment would charge over $40 for a dozen. What are they glazed in gold??? My hard earned money is much better spent buying donuts at Market Basket or even Dunkin's, thank you. RESPONSE TO OWNERS COMMENT First, I didn't say $0.20 definitively, I said $0.20 - $0.50 to make. I understand overhead. But are you seriously saying that it costs a bakery, that buys ingredients in bulk and makes thousands of donuts a day, over $2.00 per donut? C'mon, maybe your other patrons are that gullible, I can assure you, I am not. Second, I have never seen an owner or an owners representative respond so nastily to a review. Instead of responding to a negative review so that it appears that you're apologizing yet defending your position, it appears you have obvious distain for a potential customer from your pettiness and sarcasm, displayed in writing, for all to see. It would be almost laughable if I hadn't seen it in black and white myself. From your sarcastic response to one commenter saying, you don't have a crystal ball to predict what donuts are going to be in demand on a particular day, to your flippant dismissal of me with your, good luck finding a $0.20 donut. I do have one strong suggestion for you, that given your responses you'll undoubtedly find completely unreasonable, and that is you may want to look into a better way to respond to a criticism of your company instead of showing your true colors of how you really feel about someone who disagrees with your position. read more

I love trying food places that are specific to the area you're in. You can't come to Massachusetts and not give Kane's Donuts a try. They are known for their specialty donuts but you can also get muffins, sandwiches and beverages there too. There are so many flavors of donuts to choose from. It can be a bit overwhelming. I went with a four pack and ordered one crème brûlée donut, one Boston cream, one jelly and one maple bacon. Each donut lived up to its name. They were fresh, decadent, fluffy, and flavorful. The crème brûlée was hands-down my favorite. you're ever in the area, give them a try, they have multiple locations all over the state. read more

A relative was working out in Mass off and on for a few months. A coworker brought in donuts from Kane's and a trip back home she surprised us with donuts from there. The best donuts I've EVER had...EVER! I was able to visit there during my vacation and Kane's was a must...had not one but two donuts! My girlfriend used to visit this place in college frequently with her friends. She told me that they would open at 3am and they would all wait outside for the entrance doors to open. To surprise her, I wanted to relive this experience with her so we drove all the way over to try the famous donuts. Unfortunately, they had changed their hours and now open at 5am. As we were preparing to leave, a car and a truck parked inside the parking lot and abruptly, we were greeted by one of the owners. We came check out their gluten free donuts during a long layover in Boston. We ordered ahead of time: maple bacon, plain glazed, chocolate glazed, lemon poppyseed, raspberry filled and blueberry. When we went to pick up, we were told they were out of blueberry so we got the cinnamon sugar. I wish I would've had the opportunity to try these donuts warmed. I'm convinced they would've been 10xs better. They were really good and I appreciate being able to have a gluten free donut that's also dairy free but I have to say I was disappointed with the plain glaze. The glaze is hard and thick and has a weird after taste (and there's just too much). My favorite was the chocolate covered. It's similar to a chocolate ganache and not like an icing. Such a fun and varied donut selection for GF, I was quite impressed and would say this place is definitely worth the drive. Pretty close by to Portsmouth if you're hanging out in the area, and love all the flavors. My favorite were chocolate frosted, cinnamon sugar, and blubbery. Lemon poppy was my least favorite (too strong a flavor of artificial lemon in the frosting), and maple bacon, strawberry chocolate were good. Coffee and milk available, and seating was available both indoors and outdoors. (And a very clean restroom, for those of us that made the long drive here). Will definitely be back to try out more flavors - what a fun spot! read more

I wanted to try Kane's because of all the recent hype about them having "Boston's best donuts" in the media lately. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. The donuts are big, but extremely overpriced-- it was $10 for 3 donuts. I did come in the afternoon (maybe I didn't get the freshest donuts or best flavors). They only had a few choices left... so I got a Cinnamon, Plain Cake, and Creme Brûlée. The Cinnamon & Plain Cake tasted exactly the same, and were pretty dry/flavorless. We had a few bites and then we were over it. The Creme Brûlée was... disgusting. There was this sour/vinegary/alcoholic taste that both me and my boyfriend noticed. We couldn't eat more than a bite and it had a weird aftertaste. I will give Kane's the benefit of the doubt because I wasn't able to try the donuts until about 30 hours later. BUT, it was still kind of weird how bad these were. My favorite shops usually have donuts that taste good up to 3 days later, and even when they're stale you can still taste good flavor... Customer service was good & friendly, though. I used the drive-thru due to COVID. All in all, between the prices & the lack of flavor, I probably won't be back. read more

I made it a point to wake up before dawn to be at Kane's right as it opened to get my hands on the French Cruller. Maybe it was because I heard so much about it and was never able to get it due to timing and not living in the area, but I finally had a taste and it was everything I thought it would be. The donut was slightly firm because of the glaze but became melted goodness in your mouth once you took a bite out of it. There are other specialty donuts that have a lot more razzle and dazzle, but there is just something about this seemingly plain yet balanced sweetness that is the French Cruller. Other donuts I had in the box: Honey Dipped: Classic donut that goes very well with coffee, if you drink coffee that is. I definitely tasted the distinct honey flavor in there. Eggnogg: I believe this is a limited-time item around Christmas (This is when I was there) so it may not be available now, but give it a shot if you like eggnog. Personally, I thought that the eggnog flavor was too mild since I do like that stronger molasses kick. However, I understand it may not be for everyone. Boston Cream: One of my favorites. It is on the sweeter side, and I felt that there was a little less cream than I remember. It is still a solid hit, though. Red velvet peppermint(?): I am not a fan of this because I do not like red velvet. My wife likes it though, so I can imagine that anyone who likes red velvet and peppermint would enjoy it. Overall, Kane's - Lincoln Avenue will always be one of those places that I make an active effort to visit every time I am back in Boston. If you have not tried it yet --- do yourself a favor and try it at least once. This place has great donuts and a friendly staff to go with it. read more

I get the privilege of traveling all over the northeast and I like the challenge of finding fun local donuts shops to try and get donuts for clients. Kane's is top 3, if not the best! Got up early this morning and arrived at Kane's Donuts at 5:11 am the morning staff was friendly and I was greeted with a smile by Krista H. I tried the 2 new Monthy special donuts Apple Cider and Pumpkin the regular donuts were Maine Blueberry, Creme Brulee, French Cruller, and plain donuts. Also got the huge Honey-Glazed Coffee Roll and a medium cold brew coffee with a French vanilla shot. This spot is great and the donuts are always fresh tasting and donuts are big! I grew up on Kane's donuts since I was a little kid, I am 38 now. I moved away from Saugus and had recently bought a new house and had re established into the area. I thought in between my never ending schedule to use some vacation time to go and get a taste of nostalgia. However upon walking in the employee at the counter (1 of 3) I was met with a what was anything but customer friendly. I asked if they had any donuts left of a certain kind, the kid answered me back; what you see is what we got. My friend I was with sat and waited while the other two employees watched. I am in the mental health field I am very perceptive and the air was thick and it was very uncomfortable. I will be thinking twice before heading to your saugus location again anytime soon. I thought that I was going to go back to the classic store where it all started and I would receive that classic customer service. I was wrong. read more

I actually don't have much of a sweet tooth but when it comes to Kanes Donuts, oh dear God! They open every day at 3:30am. All their donuts made fresh in house with such an extensive variety of options to chose from. I had to limit myself to only 3. The seasonal Pumpkin, the Maple Bacon Glazed & the Turtle. These donuts aren't effing around! I think out of all the donuts I have ever had in my life, these are easily the biggest ones, lol. As a result, the donuts are on the pricier side, but are on par with some of the other specialty donut shops in greater Boston. I also really appreciate their gluten-free line (which is also dairy-free and nut-free) which enables more folks to enjoy the tastiness which is a Kane's donut. All the donuts I've tried so far have been great--honey dip, blueberry cake, apple cider (gf) and my favorite--the lemon poppyseed (gf). It is VERY good, arguably my favorite donut in all of greater Boston. It is cakey goodness, with that bold lemon flavor and... it's honestly my fav donut choice wherever it's available, and Kane's really nails it. Kane's donuts is one of the last remaining old fashion homemade donut shops . I've been going to Kane's for years and years every donut is absolutely perfect. A few years ago new owners took over I believe one was a baker or chef as fancy cupcakes and breakfast sandwiches were added to the menu. If you're ever in the Saugus area stop by, no actually go out of your way to stop by and grab a dozen or maybe a giant coffee roll you'll see what I call a giant when you get there. If you think DD makes donuts then don't go here. If you think a donut should cost .99 then don't go here. If you think donuts that are a day or two old are ok, then don't go here. So Kane's has amazingly fresh donuts, muffins and they even have good coffee. The donots are not cheap but they are some of the best you'll have. The service here is A+ so do leave a tip. And they open at I think 3am!....so get there early and enjoy. read more

Donuts here always great. Never disappoint. Service for delivery, not so great. I ordered thru yelp for delivery. The delivery guy was not able to find my house. He was kind of rude on the phone when I called him back 5 mins after I missed his call. He said I put in the wrong address and he couldn't find my house and he was on the way back to the shop. I told him I ordered many deliveries, many times and no problem. May be he put my address wrong on his GPS. He said he knew how to use his gps and went on educating me that my address is not on the map, and I should pick up the phone when he called ........,etc So ended up telling him my neighbor's address and waited for him on the street till he came back. I typically go to Coffee Time in Salem for my donuts but decided to try Kane's out when we had some friends do a double bubble day with us a couple weekends back. I would say the prices were a bit high and the donuts were all decent, however, they were way too sweet for my liking.
