Maybe sprouts. Maybe all three. (See aforementioned note about still being on vacation) Of course you also need a place with online ordering, so you can tick little boxes and assemble your slightly unhinged sandwich in private. (btw the person making it is either judging you or admiring your vision. Cream cheese AND bacon? OK I see you.) Place the order as you're leaving Ogunquit and it's waiting for you by the time you hit Kittery. I didn't realize they needed to see a specific confirmation on the app, and while I was standing there trying to figure it out, they were talking under their breath watching me struggle. I then heard one of them say, "It's just been a long day," as if that justified the way they were treating me. I understand having a difficult day, but that is absolutely no excuse for taking your frustration out on customers. I was genuinely trying to figure out what they needed from me, and instead of offering basic assistance, they made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. I ultimately left without my order. Very disappointing customer service and experience.

This was a good middle for your preferences to keep or shed excess. Their other breakfast sandwiches are odd. In the past, I ordered one with what I believe was supposed to be steak, and instead a very odd sausage patty that was extremely questionable. They have very good coffee, and I'm not a huge coffee drinker.

Under normal circumstances, I'd let it go and chalk it up to "they weren't at their best." But this was so bad that it doesn't happen by accident. Either they're grossly incompetent or they're trying to be bad. Only go if you're starving, have gloves, a poncho, the ability to shower ... and yeah, only if you're starving. Absolutely terrible.

The bagels themselves were good, slightly chewy, but clearly freshly made. There was far too much schmear on the bagel and it was unbalanced. There were 2 sausage patties on the sandwich which also unbalanced it, and they used American cheese which was a dubious choice given the availability of far superior cheeses. Furthermore, we ordered dine in, and the bagel and schmear came in a to-go package with a plastic lid (as did each order of this type that we could observe in the premises) which is a massive waste of plastic. A positive is that both portions were generously large. The cold brew was solid. We are visiting from out of town and staying down the street, and would probably skip this next time we are in town. There appear to be other breakfast and coffee places nearby catered to a less trendy crowd that we would try instead.

Plus, it's her birthday, so who am I to argue? We tried the egg sandwich and the Reuben (and I had to snag a chocolate chip cookie, too). Both sandwiches were made-to-order, tasted great, and were still hot and fresh by the time I got home. The staff is super friendly and polite. They even let me pick out the cookie I wanted (they had just come out of the oven, so I picked one with beaucoup de chocolate chips). They are a faith-based business, and while we didn't mention religion at all, I can't help but think that helps with the friendliness. Well, that and the ingredients for their sourdough are "water, wheat flour, active starter, salt, and love." I'm pretty sure that love part is Biblically inspired and intentional. What I respect most about this small business bakery is that owner Peter Willette puts his name on every label. He isn't just an owner who shows up to supervise; he's the guy baking the bread and building a community business in the process. I secretly hope they'll move to the River Bend spot at Henry Law Park someday, so I can get my daily bread.
