    Falafel pita
    Melissa C.

I learned of The Brooklyn Café through an article online, and I'm so happy I did! Today, I stopped there and had the best falafel pita ever! I didn't arrive until a couple of hours before they closed, so they were out of challah bread. I'm excited to go back for bagels, challah, and, of course, another falafel pita!

What a delight! Authentic Jewish style bagels right here on the seacoast! I got an everything bagel with egg salad, and my partner got double smoked lox on a poppy bagel. Both were delicious. They also had several delicious baked goods that we will come back for - potato knish, rugelach, and chocolate babka! There was a sign that says the café goes to support the community, which I thought was great.

    Cinnamon babka. Deeeelish!

The whitefish was lovely, and my bagel was the best GF bagel I can recall having had.

People ordering, picking up, getting water, and putting creamer/sugar/etc in their coffees were all congregated at the same place inside the premises right inside the front door! I was bumped into by at least 3 people. A very ineffective use of the otherwise large space that causes everyone to crowd each other. We ordered an everything bagel with maple bacon schmear and a sausage egg and cheese breakfast sandwich on everything bagel, with 2 cold brews. The bagels themselves were good, slightly chewy, but clearly freshly made. There was far too much schmear on the bagel and it was unbalanced. There were 2 sausage patties on the sandwich which also unbalanced it, and they used American cheese which was a dubious choice given the availability of far superior cheeses. Furthermore, we ordered dine in, and the bagel and schmear came in a to-go package with a plastic lid (as did each order of this type that we could observe in the premises) which is a massive waste of plastic. A positive is that both portions were generously large. The cold brew was solid. We are visiting from out of town and staying down the street, and would probably skip this next time we are in town. There appear to be other breakfast and coffee places nearby catered to a less trendy crowd that we would try instead.

I would describe this place as the anti-New York bagel shop. I asked if they served whitefish salad and all 5 of the women behind the counter, including Ani, looked at me like I was nuts. They never heard of whitefish, hmm? So I tried their overpriced Lox on a bagel. For $13.99 + tax + $3.00 suggested tip. Nope! The bagel is tasteless, the lox was a bit fishy, I couldn't taste the minuscule amount of onion or capers, and it was soaked in cucumber juice. If you want a legitimate New York bagel, go to Brooklyn bagel in Newington. They have whitefish and herring too.

They were so fresh and a great size. They were kind of pricey but definitely worth it! Our service was very quick and employees very helpful and friendly. It also was pretty busy, but they made sure to get our food out to us quickly! There wasn't much inside seating available, but they had an outdoor covered patio seating which was nice! It was raining when we came, but we still enjoyed getting to be outside! They also have a restroom that was clean. I would come back!
