    Falafel pita
    Melissa C.

I learned of The Brooklyn Café through an article online, and I'm so happy I did! Today, I stopped there and had the best falafel pita ever! I didn't arrive until a couple of hours before they closed, so they were out of challah bread. I'm excited to go back for bagels, challah, and, of course, another falafel pita!

What a delight! Authentic Jewish style bagels right here on the seacoast! I got an everything bagel with egg salad, and my partner got double smoked lox on a poppy bagel. Both were delicious. They also had several delicious baked goods that we will come back for - potato knish, rugelach, and chocolate babka! There was a sign that says the café goes to support the community, which I thought was great.

    Cinnamon babka. Deeeelish!

The whitefish was lovely, and my bagel was the best GF bagel I can recall having had.

Arrived late Thursday morning and there was still a line nearly spanning the length of the interior of the building. No worries, I said, it has to be worth the wait. And it sure was. I ordered the jalapeno cheddar bagel with plain cream cheese and my partner ordered the rosemary sea salt bagel with (I don't remember) cream cheese. Both were phenomenal - the slight chewiness of a proper bagel with the fluffiness of something you know was baked fresh that morning. And now I'm getting word they're testing out egg, cheese, and meat breakfast sandwiches. I may be prepared to wait a bit longer because these folks deserve it. Lastly, a brief note on the interior and exterior. Could not be a cooler concept - taking an old gas station and converting it into a place where you can serve food while preserving some of the name. There's a great outdoor sitting area and an indoors with garage doors waiting to be opened at the first sign of warm weather. A very much welcome modern spot towards the west end of Portsmouth.

For a reasonable price, the sandwiches are massive and stuffed to the edge with the most fresh, cohesive ingredients around! For how quick it was made, the meal still seemed to be created with lots of care. I certainly recommend the turkey avocado (although i wish it had slightly more turkey)- the bread is crisp, the avocado creamy, the turkey tender, and everything else complimentary and super fresh! As for the vibes, both inside and outside, they were lovely! As I had my dog with me, I was able to enjoy the fresh sunshine and relax with a beautiful view (albeit the street gets a little busy). However, I would have also loved to sit in their quiet yet social interior which was filled with good smells and great energy! I'd also like to mention the amazing service! Their workers are super fast and helpful. I actually initially placed my order online to the wrong location, reordered at the new one, and submitted a refund request (despite it being against their policy bc you never know), and was met with a speedy response that was understanding and gave me an immediate refund, no questions asked! This experience brightened an already great trip to Portsmouth and an already delicious meal! I cant recommend this business enough if you want a satisfyingly delicious comfort meal in the heart of an adorable town! Definitely give it a try!

I would describe this place as the anti-New York bagel shop. I asked if they served whitefish salad and all 5 of the women behind the counter, including Ani, looked at me like I was nuts. They never heard of whitefish, hmm? So I tried their overpriced Lox on a bagel. For $13.99 + tax + $3.00 suggested tip. Nope! The bagel is tasteless, the lox was a bit fishy, I couldn't taste the minuscule amount of onion or capers, and it was soaked in cucumber juice. If you want a legitimate New York bagel, go to Brooklyn bagel in Newington. They have whitefish and herring too.

They were so fresh and a great size. They were kind of pricey but definitely worth it! Our service was very quick and employees very helpful and friendly. It also was pretty busy, but they made sure to get our food out to us quickly! There wasn't much inside seating available, but they had an outdoor covered patio seating which was nice! It was raining when we came, but we still enjoyed getting to be outside! They also have a restroom that was clean. I would come back!
