Being from NY I definitely have my preferences for bagels. However, at a bare minimum if you get bagels at 6:45am they should be warm. Unfortunately, these were actually cold, which means they were in a refrigerator. Definitely wouldn't recommend it if you are used to good bagels. Waited in line for a long time, which is cool, but the kids that were working behind the counter were just sort of hanging out talking to each other which made me feel like there was no management. Also when you go into a bagel place you're looking for salmon, capers, onions, as basics. I don't think I have ever been into a real bagel place that didn't at least had salmon spread. So that was hinky and I should have taken the hint. But then when I got the bagel it wasn't really a bagel at all it was sort of dense bread, it wasn't chewy, there wasn't any crust that was recognizable, it just wasn't a bagel. It was like they weren't boiling them or some basic was missing. I can't think of a worse iced coffee in the past 20 years than the one I was served this morning at Bagel Basket. It was watery, milky, and had virtually no discernable coffee flavor. I was exceedingly nice to the sweet young girl behind the counter when I ask her if, perhaps, there was an issue with the coffee maker. She promptly retrieved her manager whose first sentence to me, in a nasty tone, was "so... do you want your money back... This isn't Starbucks? ". I said no, just check the coffee. She added some more coffee from this giant dispenser, that likely had gallons of old coffee swill, and it was still awful. I dumped the whole thing in the trash and walked over to Cumby's and got a much better coffee for 99 cents. The 3.4 star rating for this place is deserved read more

We saw a big line so turned around to buy 2 bagels. Yikes. To be fair, we are in Maine, not NYC. But the texture all wrong. No crust, no chewyness, no flavor. I had a sesame toasted with cream cheese. Ate half. My husband had a plain with peanut butter. Ate half. Pretty much the worst I've ever had. They are not boiling them first? Worse however, they are playing with their hair around the food, scratching their heads and faces, and then handling the food... WITH NO GLOVES! Stopped in here after a bad breakfast at the York Harbor Inn. We are so glad we did. Nestled in an old house this shop is pumping out fresh hot bagels. Every time I come down to York Beach, this is my favorite breakfast stop! If I lived down here, I'd go broke on their breakfast. I have had jalapenos, blueberry, and everything. My wife had onion. Place is cute and sandwich was good, but I ordered a sandwich on a French toast bagel (which they had over 20 of when I ordered) and then waited 10 minutes for them to call us up and say they're out of French toast bagels and then out of multiple other flavors)..... Pro tip: Maybe should just put the bagel aside when people order them so this is avoided. This happened to 2 other parties as well who were waiting. Not exactly professional or what I've seen at any place I've been to before... Note to owner : I did NOT order online. Went in this morning and saw the 20 bagels when I went inside the place. Great bagel stop just mintues away from where we were staying in York! When we visited in July 2021, they were still following COVID guidelines. If you ordered online, you pickup inside, but there is an order window outside if not. We arrived around 8AM on a weekday and there were a few families ahead of us. We ordered a half dozen bagels with tubs of cream cheese to bring back to the house. I liked how you can choose between two different sizes of cream cheese, haven't seen that a other bagel shops. We opted for the larger size of veggie & wild berry. The bagels were phenomenal and the cream cheese brought them to another level. Great variety of flavors to choose from too! read more

Did not even want to add a single star, I'd leave 0 if I could! This spot used to be the place to go a few years back. Since the new manager stepped in it has gone downhill drastically. We ordered online and that was a fast process. I got an onion bagel with bacon egg and cheese. The bagels were better than store-bought ones. The bacon was inserted in the eggs and not just strips laid on the sandwich. If I were to go back I would get extra bacon. read more

Always wanted to try this place since we vacation in the area. Took 25 minutes to get 2 bagels with cream cheese.. I watched several people waiting finish their entire large coffees before getting their order. I'm not sure if they're trained to go in order for making the food, but I shouldnt have to wait behind 15 bagel sandwiches for someone to put cream cheese on a bagel. Have two separate stations going-- there were plenty of young girls working back there. Giving is 2 stars because the bagel was pretty good and a good size. Even pre-Covid, even before the multiple signs asking for patience, this place is the poster child for typical Maine (and York) inefficiency. The bagels are day old and dry. They automatically toast all bagels unless you specify otherwise. This tells you they're not fresh. A fresh bagel stands on its own. Maybe if the owner would show up once in a while instead of relying on untrained high school girls, you'd be able to enjoy your beach day instead of waiting for a crappy meal.
