The brands have changed. The orchards are overgrown and covered in poison ivy with no landscaping to protect patrons, not even warnings. They no longer prepare ordered sandwiches fresh or pastries and soups. Instead just throw together a couple premade soggy sandwiches. Who makes a turkey and ham with a piece of lettuce sandwich and charges $8? I don't know if management changed, but the delightful and welcoming service is now void. I felt as if I was a bother and got the drift I wasn't at all welcomed with underlying tones of "ok get what you see and get out." I miss the kind ladies from 15-20 years ago who treated you like old friends. I had driven about 20 miles, excited to visit this old orchard I adored for years as a summer day escape to refresh. I left feeling heavily disappointed, turned away and realizing the age of kind service, pleasant and genuine "how do you do's" are a thing of the past. The sadness leaving was palpable. I really used to love this place. I could tell the staff just wanted to do the least and clock out. It left a very poor taste in my mouth. Dare I say a broken heart. The soul is gone. I ask that I don't receive a response from ownership because it will just hurt more.

We got pumpkin spice waffles (mouth watering with the sauce), lox bagel, Mac and cheese, peanut butter cookie, and one of the wraps with chicken in it, I don't remember which. The lox bagel had cucumbers and chive spread instead of capers but it was really good. The cookie was nice and chewy and not too sweet. I also got a bag of coffee beans to try later at home that I'm looking forward to. Everything we ate was tasty and came out in a few minutes even though they were so busy. I will definitely be back. (Also, this is not important, but cafes usually get my name wrong because it's old fashioned, and I thought it was really cute that the cashier tried to remedy this by correcting it on the receipt.)

We had breakfast here today, and really enjoyed it. The food was great, the location excellent, and the staff warm and inviting. The indoor area has a cool vibe, with tin & exposed wood ceilings and lots of tables. Outdoor (where we should have sat in hindsight had we realized how warm it was!) has tons of seating amongst the greenery as well. We had lox on an everything bagel and a chorizo breakfast sandwich with a pear coffee and an apple chai. The bagel was tasty and reasonably sized. I'd order it again in a heartbeat. I added a touch of salt but I always prefer that over too salty since you can't remove it. The best solution would be for them to add capers (briny and easy to remove), which is traditional with lox. The chorizo breakfast sandwich was super tasty with just the right amount of zing! I snuck the avocado mash into the bagel too.. The coffee was smooth and flavorful. The apple latte was bright and fruity, almost like cider with steamed milk? Ok that sounds weird but it was good I swear! Oh and we got a chocolate croissant and a cinnamon muffin to go! Mine didn't go far and was quite good as soon as we got home. Not sure if the muffin survived into the afternoon either.. I have to note that their waffles sound really good but I didn't order them because they don't have real maple syrup available. I highly recommend offering real maple syrup even if it's as a paid add-on. I would also call it "maple-flavored syrup" otherwise if it isn't real to warn people. We're in New England! We will be back!

Toppings (sausage and mushroom) were few and far between, especially the mushrooms which were almost nonexistent. Toppings, sauce, and cheese came only half-way to the edge, just dough after that. Top was way over-browned to the point where the cheese was disagreeably chewy. And I'm not sure if this was meant to be a thin-crust or a deep-dish pizza because it was both: thin in the middle half and three times thicker in parts of the outer half. Obviously whoever prepared this has no clue to how to do it properly. The ONLY good thing I can say about this mess is the dough itself was fresh and had a good texture. It wasn't just one. We were a group of 5 and ordered 3 pizzas. Everybody agreed they were bad. They should be ashamed to serve these. Didn't anybody notice leaving the kitchen they were unservable? So I would never consider here for take-out. But we were here for trivia night so maybe I'd try again to have something to eat while playing? But next time if they come out like that I'd be refusing delivery and demanding a new one - that's for sure. As far as the trivia, I might not return for that either. The room was very loud from the crowd, and the announcer's microphone never did work properly so it was very hard to hear. And, knowing how many good wines and beers they sell in the general store on the first floor, it is painful to have a choice of just 5 very generic wines upstairs. Why can't they offer all the wines from downstairs, with a reasonable mark-up for restaurant purchase of course?

There are several other locations, with Maynard being the newest. I wanted to love it here, but sadly the bagels are underwhelming. If you did a blind taste test with a grocery store or Dunkin Donuts bagel, you would not be able to tell the difference. As someone said in their Google review, the bagels are chewy and don't have a lot of flavor -- but if that's the way you like them, then you may have a different opinion. I wanted you to try the lox and cream cheese bagel, but the prices here are crazy high. Given my less than exciting last two stops here for a bagel, I can't justify the cost for a bagel with a tiny bit of smoked salmon. The one thing that may save this place is their pastries. I don't know if they're made in house, but they all look AMAZING and I'll definitely give those a try when I want to splurge on a dessert item. They had some chocolate muffins/cupcakes with the white spiral across the top that I almost broke down and purchased, and they had cookies, coffee cake and some enticing muffins. (I'll update my review when I give some of those a try.)

From Boston, it's a scenic drive out to Stow. I couldn't stop gushing over the foliage on the way there - I've turned into a total leaf peeper. Carver Hill is absolutely stunning in the fall, definitely worth a trip. Pleasantly surprised to find the lot half-empty when we arrived on the later side of a Saturday but then it filled up by the time we left around 3. To your right, as soon as you drive in, you'll see an area with pumpkins and the farm store - this is also where you get PYO fruit/veggies if you're paying with credit. If you have cash on hand, you can pay for a bag at the little stand right in front of the orchard. A peck (the smaller bag) was $25. I was a little skeptical at the size but it's a good deal if you really pack your apples in there. From there, the apple orchard. Not the biggest I've been to and the selection was understandably limited. We missed the sign to download the QR code for a map of the orchard and so had to rely on a photo of a thin pole with all the names/colors wrapped around it. Don't forget to stop at the store before you leave. I grabbed some pumpkin pie, jam, and an apple cider donut - they also have apple cider slushies and multiple flavors of ice cream. The donut was THE BEST, made fresh, almost falling apart, thick and generous coating of cinnamon and sugar (also tasted nutmeg and allspice in the coating). Absolutely worth waiting in the line for, but make sure to pay first and get a little yellow receipt/tag from the register before you get in line for the donuts.
