Dunkin' Donuts is a brand which for most needs no introduction, it is a huge brand in the US and some areas of Europe including here in The Netherlands, but back home in the UK they don't seem to have taken off as well with only a handful of branches in London, Barnsley, Leeds and Liverpool (there may be more I'm not aware of!). but based on the experience here I can't seem to understand why there aren't more branches of Dunkin!
This branch is located inside Amsterdam Centraal Station, it's a small store, similar to a small kiosk or perhaps a walk-in-wardrobe, there is high, bar-style seating to seat a couple of people but not really anything else - probably seating similarly suited to the location as it is more of a place you'd go to grab a quick coffee before taking it on the train with you, however rivals nearby including Starbucks Coffee who have three branches in Centraal Station, and one just opposite at the Doubletree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal, do have seating in their locations.
Firstly, in comparison, it is so much cheaper here compared to Starbucks by around €1 to €1.50 euro, with my drink costing €3.90 which would have cost around €5.50 at Starbucks which is a bonus, the large size did seem slightly smaller than Starbucks however.
I ordered my regular coffee beverage, a Large Cold Brew with milk and vanilla syrup, the coffee quality was quite good here, which really did surprise me considering this is a place that specialises, as suggested by the name - in doughnuts.
The service here did seem quite good too, despite the language barrier, the staff member tried her best to help and serve me, and even helped guide me into doing a survey to get a free drink on my next visit, suggesting I could do it too via google translate - sadly I was unable to do this as it was my last day in Amsterdam, meaning I wouldn't have been able to claim my free drink (time travel isn't possible yet, right?)
The area waiting to get my drink was a bit of a mess, the whole checkout seemed to be merged into one, so it was hard to know whether someone was queuing ready for their order to be taken down, or to get their drink, but it did get sorted pretty quickly.
Drink quality of a good standard, perhaps the best coffee drink I had during my time in Amsterdam, at a reasonable price too much cheaper than branches of Starbucks also inside Centraal Station and in Amsterdam as a whole means this place is another member of my four-star club, and excites me, wanting to visit Dunkin Donuts' again in the UK, despite some drawbacks such as the lack of seating making this place only a place you'd go when getting a drink to go, despite this being in the part of the station where anyone can get to, with or without a ticket (they're missing a trick here through a lack of seating in this location, when rivals past the gate do have more and better seating), and issues with the checkout process too - but nonetheless for the best coffee I've had in Amsterdam and at a good price, a four-star rating is surely deserved! read more
