Near the entrance of Wilcon Builder's Depot in Pasong Tamo, you'll find a section with a huge standing freezer containing prepared meats for sale. It's actually a funny sight because no one would ever dream of seeing meat products being sold inside a construction and building materials superstore.
I'm a curious person. So even if I was in Wilcon just to accompany my aunt in her quest to find the perfect lighting fixtures for her new home, I decided to check out the cold storage. As a meat lover, I was sure that freezers usually contain meat products. But I didn't really expect that everything in the storage was sourced or made from croc meat. I should have known better if I only paid attention to the brand name Dundee, which takes after the famous 80's comedy film about a croc hunter.
Aside from raw meat, there are also packs of sisig, sausages, tapa, and burger -- all made from crocodile meat. And what do you call a dish of crispy croc meat? Why it's croc wali (as in lechon kawali), of course!
I tasted crocodile meat before and I think it's a great alternative to beef and pork. Crocodiles are said to be a good source of lean protein. Now, it's easy to get hold of this type of exotic food. If you are curious or you have been looking for a place selling croc meat, don't go to your supermarket. Go instead to this huge hardware store along Don Chino Roces Avenue (formerly Pasong Tamo). read more
